Heard this so many times, and STILL my heart starts racing the second I hear “HEY OPEN UP THE DRAWER!” Honestly, at this point, I start getting a little tense when I hear the first notes because I *know* what’s coming in this song. But holy crap, this is storytelling at its finest. The tension, the pacing, the realism, the perspective from the active bystander that’s just caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, tying all the details together with the boyfriend from the beginning, Nate’s voice ranging from a raging demand to a terrified hush to a panicked prayer to the almost cathartic despondency of the shock in the aftermath of the terror when everything is over and all you can do is breathe. And the music video captures the essence of the song *perfectly* - absolutely phenomenal!

In a strange way I wonder if its not a Ren and Em reference (amongst others). Ren's early songs - Violet's/Screech's Tales (Ren ~ "Eryn Gill", the gun shots, the name, the 'new guy') and Eminem's longterm story songs like Stan(//)Bad Guy ('Em ~ "Marshall M.", in the sense of how MM used writing stories and alter allegories vs how Slim would operate as a wordsmith of the unconscious). Absolutely amazing storyteller!!!! I love the cadence in the flow of his rap when telling How he called 911.

Damn that cashier is a trooper. Gets into a gunfight, gets shot, and the first thing he does when it's over is ask if she's alright. That's some grade-A customer service right there.
