#NextLeaderofScotland

It is a vote in which Scotland decides not just whether to stick with fourteen years of SNP government, and its handling of covid and public services - but whether to give it the mandate for a new independence referendum. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
To set a course for the end of the Union - or at least a confrontation with Boris Johnson who says he will refuse it.
Of those here tonight for the #NextLeaderOfScotland debate: Nicola Sturgeon is not alone wanting independence - the Greens support it too. But the Conservatives and Labour - currently fighting it out for second place in the polls, and the Lib Dems are all against another referendum and are pro-Union.

For example in 2010 Britain was building villages in Pakistan despite the fact that it's supposed to be independent from the UK. Where would Scotland have been without the help of the UK gov during the pandemic ? Absolutely nowhere. The Army had to be brought in to build and man testing stations, and help with the vaccination programme. Scotland would never have been able to afford a furlough scheme like the UK gov put into place. Billions of pounds in aid for local services, councils and businesses etc. Food supplies delivered to the doors of the vunerable during lockdown etc etc etc. Sturgeon and the SNP have squandered millions in taxpayers money over the years. Failed contracts and ventures, wasting public money on nothing more than ego and power trips for Sturgeon. Promising the earth and delivering nothing. Free ipads for every schoolkid that needs them ! They have hardly supplied any and said it will take the full Parliamentary term to ‘maybe’ deliver on the promise. Most kids will have left school before getting their pad. Same goes for the ‘free’ bikes they offered. They cannot afford their promises, which are nothing more than pandering to the poor to get votes, exploiting may be a better description. The SNP just cannot afford their promises which are not ‘free’, the taxpayer is footing the bill. Holding back £250 million from local councils, then offering them £120 million as if they were being generous to them. The lack of council funding will mean councils will have to raise council tax in 2023 to make up the shortfall. And who will the SNP blame when housholders complain about the rise ? Yes, the councils. If councils had got the £250 million, council tax could have remained frozen. And back to the pandemic, if Scotland had been back in the EU the vaccination of Scots would have been well behind the rest of the UK as the EU struggled to get and distribute vaccines. Why do SNP voters think that all their troubles will suddenly disappear if indie happens ? The NHS, local services, care sector, Police, Education, drug deaths etc etc have all got worse since the SNP came to power. Moving away from Westminster will not cure those failures of the SNP. Years of tax rises, unemployment and austerity lay ahead in indie making each and every Scot poorer in the process. Don’t you wonder why Sturgeon avoids talking about her plans for indie and how an indie Scotland would end up regarding borders, currency, pensions, armed forces and security etc etc ? She’s taking Scots headlong into something that she has no plans or ideas for. Jump then worry about the depth of the water when you land seems to be her way of thinking. It’s all about her and her ego, it’s all about her and her future career once she drops the SNP like a stone if indie happens. It’s all about her, not the Scots that vote for her, only her.

Covid can take 2 weeks until you show symptoms(if you show symptoms)...by then, your kidneys and other organs can be failing...hypoxia also affected a lot of people (slowly suffocating) and no one -even the patient- knows they are dying because Hypoxia is not painful...(people just drop dead from it) So yeh, she was in charge of making decisions on how scotland dealt with elderly in care homes...BUT it's not necessarily true that she "caused" those deaths(she wasn't just choosing to just send them back to die) when the information at the time was not there to make other judgements...especially when the hospitals were already at capacity.

All 4 nations of the UK needs representing, I'm born and bred in Scotland, lived in Wales, England and NI and back home in Scotland again. While I'm for the union, I believe the UK isn't properly represented...this needs changing. 65% of Scottish trade is with the UK, we have a great armed force which we fought wars together as a union - we need Unity. Galloway has created a party that could represent the whole of the UK one day, however he isn't the person who should lead or manage the party. We need young people from all 4 corners of the UK leading a unionist party that not only represents the views of unionist but also nationalist. Under SNP my home of Aberdeen has turned this city into chaos, hundreds of people queueing for food hand outs in union square, homelessness and high street feeling empty and just full of drunks and charity shops. We need a new party that represents us the people who know and understand our situation and fixes the issues not just sticks a plaster. Nicola Sturgeon is a good leader and knows how to engage with people, but has no viable plan for an independent Scotland, is only concern about one issue and that's joining the EU (not really independence) and leaving one union for another isn't the best route. For me, I would like to see major changes and reforms across the UK and the only way to do that is to stay in the union and vote for a party the represents the key issues, like getting a job that pays well, better housing then living is a flat that is expensive and the landlord just doesn't fix water leaks and heating to feeling safe in a home instead of being threatened by someone because I'm mixed race. These are some issues faced by many across the entire UK. While I despise Boris Johnson and Douglas, and I would normally never in a millions years vote for that party (former labour supporter) I will be voting for Scottish Conservatives (both votes) as the are focussing on one issue like SNP which is the Union. Hopefully, at the next election 2026 there will be a party like All 4 Unity with proper leaders representing us all from Scotland, Wales Northern Ireland and England, hopefully they can be elected to change and reform the union for the better. The only thing you can do is HOPE! And to those who hate me for my views, don't judge me because I don't share your views - I have the same rights as ever other Scot living in this country.

What are the short term gains? The way i see it independence would be great for the Scots in the long run. I would imagine it would go better than Brexit as the SNP have made plans previously (and now will probably have learned from UK govs Iistakes with the EU) and considered most issues in the last white paper. There is no long term impact for them... They have chance to choose their own destiny, good luck to them. I am sure every Englishman would relish some kind of Political reform given Westminsters failings both recently and historically.

Thing is, there is a fiscal deficit of >10% at the moment which means if the SNP want to merely maintain the current level of public services they will either have to massively raise taxes or borrow heavily - but where are they going to borrow from? So, this idea they are peddling that in an independent Scotland the SNP will be able to dish out freebies to everyone left, right and centre is at best a fantasy and at worst a complete and utter lie.
