While he's never directly referenced this event in his life, i definitely think he has alluded to it, especially in Fake You Out: "In the night, headlights call my name"

I agree that the whole point of so much of TØP is to prevent su*****. There are old interviews here and there where Tyler makes it clear. I love him so much for sharing his story with us, and I know he (and TØP as a whole) do save lives. I’m a massive Smashing Pumpkins fan and when I learned that my favorite song ever, “Today,” was written by Billy Corgan in a moment where it saved his life, it broke my heart. I’m so glad these gentlemen have stayed alive because each and every one of us matters so much. Even if we aren’t genius rock stars like them, we are people like them. People matter, you matter, please stay alive. ❤❤❤

"Start fresh next semester" reminds me of Truce lyrics: "The sun will rise and we will try again". Moreover, what you say at 10:28 feels to me like it could be main theme not only of Next Semester song, but of the entire album. You will have to live with those things. Bad decisions and sad things happen in life all the time. You can't change the past, but you can always start over. You can find a way to be okay and conclude the truce with your inner Blurryface. I feel like this might be the how Clancy story ends - truce with Blurryface. You can't fully defeat it, but you can learn to live with it so it doesn't affect you so much, and that's a win. I love your analysis. Thank you for the video 💜💜💜

very good interpretation!!! i think the middle verse depicts what it's like to have a panic attack: "can't feel my legs, i might suffocate, there's a pressure in my chest, what's about to happen" (also implied by the part in the beginning: "can you die of anxiousness?"). i personally suffer from panic disorder and a panic attack can be triggered by the fear of the anticipation of when the next one is going to happen, and i'm so happy to see an anxiety disorder depicted by a twenty one pilots song, since most of their songs are about depression. this song probably means the most to me out of all of them, because it actually motivates me to live, especially the last part, "can't change what you've done, start fresh next semester". if i'm not mistaken, i think josh also suffers from an anxiety disorder, and this is honestly so sweet to think about that this next song is probably dedicated to him, or maybe tyler took inspiration from this song from josh's experience, but that's just a thought of mine

Thank you! Thank you for sharing your experiences. I'm sorry you have to go through that. I think Tyler has suffered from depression and anxiety. He's talked about Dema being a physical representation of his worst anxieties and fears. I'm really glad the song has helped you, hope you're okay |-/

This song hits me hard, it speaks to me on a personal level and I love this song so much. This is probably one of the most vulnerable songs that we heard from Tyler. Also this song reminds me of what it feels like to me to have a panic attack. I’m so excited for the rest of the album.

You always make insightful, in-depth TØP videos. I’m touched by your decision to make this a direct video about your honest reaction to Next Semester. I’m still processing my feelings around it. Love the punk vibe, then the ukulele takes you down a different path. Raw. Vulnerable. Feeling sad about it, tbh 😢

The part at the end where he sings "It's a taste test of what I hate less - I don't wanna be here, start fresh with a new year", as if he's deciding whether to leave(I don't wanna be here), or to live on (start fresh with a new year), and at the end he decided to "start fresh next semester". I teared up instantly the when I heard this part, songs like this remind me I'm still here, catch me while I fall and let me know it's still worth it despite all.

I thought it was so interesting how in the video, at first when we see Tyler on the street the camera goes towards him and he jumps out of the way, but later on the video the camera stays at a constant distance for him and goes around him while he sings to him. As if through his singing, he has now processed the situation enough to take control of it. Also, did anyone else have to think of the Banditos when the "yellow dashes" were mentioned?

I’m 25 and I owe a huge thank you to Tyler for saving me when I was 13 and till now, this song definitely has hit the hardest. I never actively attempted to do the thing but all the thoughts of it have plagued my mind at times, it’s not a pleasant experience but I embrace that I’m able to overcome it every time. I think Tyler being very straight forward of it now shows that he’s okay with this being a song that doesn’t get a lot of radio hits but he made it for the clique. I can’t wait to sing this live with everyone especially the Ooooohhh’s. I also love that you have made a little clique community here and love the work you put in. Also that back to the future poster 🔥

I noticed the light of the headlights share the same bluish glow of the incandescent lights of Vialism. Are the headlights from this memory of Tyler's the inspiration for the lights of Vialism that call for his bones? Exciting to think we are beginning to learn the real world inspiration for all the details of Dema. Heck, maybe we will even find out how they really met 🤷🏼‍♂️😂 Thanks boys for looking out for us all these years. |-/

Interesting take for sure….i took it as Goner one of the first music videos was in the road and seemed a song of not much hope left. Next semester seemed like way more hope. There is a definite theme of being in the road and cars and in heavy dirty soul we see who we presume to be Nico driving Tyler and sparks at the rear wheel behind him. There are sparks at the rear behind him on stage for most the next semester video. Maybe representing what he is trying to get away from dema which represents his anxiety and stress which in this song he’s saying he wants to get out of here and worried of dying of anxiousness. Yellow lines in the road could represent the bandit is and a path away from dema and the push and pull through the lore Tyler has with dema and trying to get out but feeling more comfortable sometimes with dema and those lights behind him/bishops /dema may take him back to his new home he is stuck in. The Hey Kid get out of the road could represent the bishops telling him to stop following the yellow lines to his way out. Calling him a kid and telling him they know best. A lot more here and still working on my theories but love your take even though it’s sad to imagine it and the hurt Tyler may have gone through
