Patty You are doing an excellent job. Navigating through Asian countries without getting killed is a feat most of these viewers will never experience. You make it look so easy but I know it’s not. I felt bad for you when you lost your wallet knowing how difficult it is to accomplish anything in Thailand mostly due to a lot of traffic and people. It’s easier to navigate the roads in the USA compared to Thailand. I road a Honda 550 from Pattaya to Rayong and back during rainy season. You are used to riding on the left side of the road. Our steering wheel is on the left but we drive on the right side of the road except in the Virgin Islands as they are like England.

Loved this. Watched Paddy from the start of his journey. I have loved watching him grow. His channel is next level. I love his humor. Honesty. He is a top bloke. His footage is epic. Lovely bloke. He works very hard. I hope he doesn't stop after five years. I have always been concerned about his loneliness. He's committed so much to his channel. I wish him a million subscribers. And it must get frustrating. I have seen some really crap videos that do amazing. But some people do love drama. VR does not interest me. But I am probably showing my age. I love his channel. And will always support Paddy. I love how his private life is private. Not everything is for KZread. I could see Paddy on Tv. It would be worth watching the telly then. Great interview. I have subscribed to your channel.

A TV presenter type is my hero Bangkok Pat, calm, funny and doing everything so easy. I have followed Paddy since the early cringe days of his channel and hopefully he entertain me for a long, long time.

I met Paddy about 2 weeks ago, and have to admit I was excited, crazy as that might seem, but true. We met at a mall in Chiang Mai. He was kind enough to talk to me for a bit at my request. He was as I hoped he would be, seeing how I watch a ton of his content, it would be a let down if he was any different then what I'm used to watching. He's actually living in the same building as I am at the moment, I believe I recommended my building to him. I am happy he is taking a much needed break. We all go through stuff, some good, some not so good, but it's how we get through all that stuff that helps build our character.

I won't name names but one thing Paddy (and you, Jay) might keep in mind is that the thumbnail with the surprised shocked face with mouth open is a major TURNOFF to some of us. One youtuber literally shoots the thumbnail during the video and shows himself doing it, so you totally see how fake it is. The mouth open pose. UGH.

Bravo!! I watched this whole interview in the early hours whist enduring my second bout with Covid or a variant. Quick notes: My wife is originally from Nakhon Si Thammarat and we still visit the extended family there. Gotta love it. So bully for you for mentioning the place where she grew up and put herself through school, but that's another saga. What I like a lot about your experiences is that I am of the same mind. Just jump into it and express the personal experience that goes along with it, part and parcel ... although I'm not a You-Tuber ... yet, However, I'm becoming inspired to do a series of travelling from town to town, like I have already done in my extended visits to Thailand, my second home outside Toronto Canada, and sitting-in and playing my guitar with the local and international bands. The stories my musician colleagues have to tel ... OMG. I'm also a teacher ... I teach English to adults who have entered Canada as newcomers, although my students are victims of torture and war, so I am a rarity for the average Englsh language instructor. But what you have done and have been doing buoys my spirit ... Kind of a comfort to watch each episode as your life unfolds in front of our senses, especially when I'm having a down day in my wife's homeland ... Can't wait for the next Paddy Doyle episode. I can relate! The approach where you begin your day by thinking of a a title and taking a plan of action, despite the inevitable setbacks. Well, it's all inspiring. Great and timely interview. Lots of insight and advice. Thank you for this interview, Paddy and Jay at Thaiger. Rock on! dcb

Paddy you are a ripper. Sitting here in Aust after hiring a car in Chiang Mai and having the greatest trip down to Phuket. It was insane with the most ludicrous scenarios even for an Aussie used to kangaroos jumping out however just a cathartic experience to enjoy. How incredible is this country and up Nth similar to Far Nth Qld from the rainforest to the cane / pineapple humid heat. Diverse country Krabi was mind blowing driving through plantations to get there and the rock formations my head was just spinning. Wish I would go and do what you are doing or have done / what an experience love it

Great pod and as a viewer of paddys for a long time it’s great to hear his perspective. Couple of things though - I think he’s so far off the mark about the 2 mil subs in 2 years thing if he went on the foodie route. Not because someone else couldn’t do that, but because paddy’s personality is not authentic presenting that sort of content and it’s why his food videos tend to not really go viral 🤷‍♂️ To me it sounds a bit bitter that others have success in that format - but if they tried paddy’s format they wouldn’t have the same success as him. At the end of the day the good KZreadrs lean into the content they’re good at. Personally I think paddy should embrace that rather than coming across as a bit jealous that others are moving faster than him lately - if paddy wants to say he is not a normal travel channel, and wants to preach to everyone that he’s different and original, then really he has no business comparing himself to channels that, by his own admission, are not his peers or in the same niche as him. I live in Thailand as an expat and I see SOO many people do what he says his plan is with the food and the shocked faces - reality is 90% of them don’t crack 10k views and don’t do anything. You only see the 10% that do, and only 1% of those do it consistently a month or two later, usually because of their personality and ability to entertain people - therein lies the key to success, it’s not about the content idea, it’s about the person behind the camera and how well they entertain. Just like paddy can in his style of videos that others who do Food couldn’t. Idk I loved hearing the rest of the pod, but the continual reference back to “I could be doing better if I did this” showed the hand a little. He thinks he’s better than those people I guess, when in reality, those who actually succeed at that sort of content are in a more competitive niche and really, have to work a bit harder for their success than someone not doing those sorts of videos would. More power to you anyway paddy, hopefully you focus on yourself though as the videos are better that way.

What Paddy said about comments about his partner, yeah that was an issue I wasn't comfortable with on Thaiger actually -- the fans who'd write in comments talking about how beautiful whoever is, I think unaware that they're verging on catcalling construction workers. Jay might be there talking about some serious issue, but all the live comments are about how gorgeous the female presenter is in that blouse or whatever. That crap makes me wanna stop watching. If guys did that at their jobs, they wouldn't last there long.

Several of them do. While I hope it's done with a sense of irony, I actually have my doubts as there is a belief that they are developing a brand - all have their heads filled with the same youtube sales pitch. It's funny to watch as most of the youtubers all follow the same thought leaders, have the same approach, levels of self awareness, ability to accept even the slightest critique and go down the same path...
