Thank you, what a fantastic look back to 1976. The year i was married, in a village just outside Newton Abbot.

I'd give absolutely anything, to go back to these care free times. I was 12 years of age in 1976.

Thanks for this. I was 18 in '76. A Geordie down in Devon on holiday with my first motorbike. Great memories of the Summer of '76. Lost my L-plates during that holiday.😍

Great piece of film - typical of Newton Abbot as the bustling market town that it once was. Thank you,.

In the 1960s would get the bus from Okehampton when on holiday - Market Day in Newton Abbot then Market Day in Exeter - Devon General only , never the independent to Tavistock or Plymouth for some reason we to the Car to Tavistock. In 1977 I think stayed in Shaldon and took the winding bus route up the Teign to Newton Abbout

Absolutely brilliant, really fascinating. I was about 17 when that was filmed and great to see the town as it was.

Thanks for putting this up . 16 in 1976 and still living locally , NA is a great town , pedestrianisation was a massive improvement. In 1979 I worked at outfitters Martin John who had a clothes shop on the corner overlooking the old bus station, as well as one in the Market Walk. Sold hundreds of cheesecloth shirts at £3 a throw I think it was.

Wonderful place to live. I lived there in the early 80s and went to school in Totnes. Had a market stall with my dad selling pet food and basket ware. It hasn't changed much.

Brilliant little film and it’s amazing really there’s no carrier bags and all of the bags being used for stuff off the market stalls were put into paper bags not plastic and all the shoppers had their own shopping bags no plastic ones it was lovely to see so it just goes to show how quickly plastic shopping bags came about x

When Colleen and I married, 63 years ago, we came to Devon on honeymoon and visited Newton abbot on a wet and windy day; what a miserable dreary place it was then. We vowed never to visit again. But, today we have a family business and live in Newton Abbot, and we love the place. The town's people are it's best asset, so friendly and welcoming. A great place to live!

Was in South Devon in the hot summer of 1976. I was cooked, got some colour transparancies of the Bus Station and Bus Garage , plus Teignmouth and Torquay areas
