I remember 6abc in Philly tried to change it in the early 2000s, and so many pissed off people called the station that they changed it back.

It was in 1996 and yes, it was a hot mess 😂😂. They changed it back in 3 days 😂. Philadelphians spoke and they listened!

In NYC, this was WPIX-TV Channel 11 (aka "11 Alive") Action News theme during the 1970s which evolved into the Independent Network News (aka "INN") in the 1980s. More recently, it's Kaity Tong's domain.

In the 70s, WCIA in champaign used an excerpt from this song in their news intro

PIX 11 also used this music in the late 70s and Early 80s when Pat Harper and Steve Marsh were the anchors

Jan Carson at KTRK?? That was a LONG time ago, pre-1985, because I always saw her on KPRC Channel 2, the NBC affiliate!

Also used in the early to mid 70’s during the WIIC years for NewsWatch and Instant News. It’d be nice to bring it back with the NBC chimes mixed in.

KTVU 2 in Oakland, California used this theme from 1971-1974

WSM-TV (now WSMV) in Nashville used it, and so did WHAS-TV in Louisville. WHAS examples are available on KZread.

WTNH Channel 8 New Haven Ct used it in the 80's

Daphne Ordonez/Dennise Ordonez Theme Music (May 28, 2021-present)

16 should go back to the old version.

I used to live in the ATL area and WSB had used this theme at one point.

WKBW Buffalo needs to bring this back immediately!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WJLA in Washington,DC used it for their news sometime in the 70s.

Channel 10 in Australia used this music for a short time. Would like to find some 1970s KMBC 9 openers with the Cool Hand Luke music.

WABC in NYC used the Cool Hand Luke theme in the 80s. I remember it well.

This song belongs to 6abc, WPVI, Philadelphia and Jim Gardner. No one else should ever be able to use this song again.

You forgot WKRC-tV channel 12 in my hometown of Cincinnati!

WTVD Durham NC had an open similar to KFSN

Buffalo used for a really long time,. they still use it on occasion

KFSN in Fresno was a Capital Cities Station, which was acquired by Disney. To this day, KFSN is a Disney O&O.

KTRK Houston was owned by Cap Cities and subsequently became an ABC O&O, much like WPVI.

WSB-TV Atlanta's then NBC now ABC affilate.

The theme song should be retired as the official Jim Gardner song since it appears as if it has been associated with him the longest.

Philly went bats in 1995 when WPVI-TV altered the theme. The rearranged theme lasted just 5 days. It would probably kill the ratings.

I called WNEP’s talkback thing from Philly hoping that they eventually get rid of it. It’s annoying af and it’s been associated with Jim Gardner the longest. Basically in other words it gotta go.

WPVI-TV still uses it. Gardner retired on December 21, 2022.
