Linus, I hear you very clearly on the Civil Service on your discussion of the Civil Service. Though very young then , I lived through those years of the post 'independence efforts to create a Kenyan Civil Service that could do as well as if not better than the Colonial Civil Service. For reasons I need not mention here, I was very closely exposed to what happened then. It inspired my personal career upon entering the work force until I took an overseas position in the government of another country (Where no other African had ever been - attributed in part to the early years of very close exposure and work ethic.). It was also an escape from being part of the lost generation.😅) I know many of the people that were at the current school of government , then Kenya Institute of Administration and recollect some of the papers ( e.g., The Ombudsman, Depoliticizing the Public Service, The Kenya We Want Conference, etc ) that were authored by people who have since left this earth. Again, in the context of the topic of your discussion, Cabinet and Principal Secretaries (then called Permanent Secretaries) were very powerful individuals that were completely responsible for their different portfolios w.r.t driving Kenya or crushing it. More often than not, there were consequences for failure. Jomo Kenyatta did not have to explain things single handedly as William.Ruto has had to do in past few weeks. Things started to change drastically in the Moi Administration. This is what drew some of us into the struggle of the 1990's to restore Kenya to what it had been if not make it better for ourselves and future generations Kibaki attempted to restore that with the introduction of Performance Contracting, though I was away for the entire Kibaki Administration to observe and experience it. In fact, it was in the Kibaki Administration that The Office of the Ombudsman was established as proposed by the paper of 1966 from KIA. This is truly a reformation moment that countries and societies go through in their evolutionary history. It is made more interesting by the age we are living in - the digital age of social platforms , the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence. Indeed William Ruto, through great introspection, has the opportunity to be the president that transitions Kenya to a new era that holds promise for the GenZ and subsequently future generations if he reads the situation right and does not play by the old way of doing things (broad-based government to share political risk rather than grasping the moment 😉)

We see so much people-pleasing on the President's part. It is my opinion that going forward, he needs to decide who he wants to please: Us his employers, or them (CSs etc) his employees. It's quite simple. His concept of playing the long game is honestly very skewed. He needs to understand that if he did a good job by working for us rather than for the few in government, there would be no question about his ability to get re-elected. I think this political debt business should be nothing he needs to fear as long as he does the job we put him in office to do.

I doubt their dismissal was a surprise. The farewell messages came too fast! I wonder have they eaten enough or know the goverment is broke? EACC should investigate all these leaders and recover stolen public funds

Am very disappointed by Ruto to say the least and here is why, how can a leader surely be shaken by a passing cloud (Gen Z) to do unthinkable? I Mean Duale for instance won his parliamentary seat then resigned so that he can help Ruto deliver then he was fired? Come on bro, that's the greatest betrayal I have ever seen, unastuliwa na watoto then you do as they say? Uwoga ni mbaya aki to say the truth!
