It's not just about availability though, affordability is a concern too. With the general masses moving to electric for commuting etc. Distribution and storage of petrol and diesel for sale in smaller quantities will become ever more costly. Diesel may be different because of HGVs perhaps 🤔

@ttxela You're absolutely right, it's a complicated topic with multiple factors to consider. With cars it's broadly an affordability issue, the popular city car class has all but disappeared and entry level EVs are what £23k and up? For all the talk of reducing prices I don't see it happening, what I do see are people persuaded to adopt a continuously monthly payment model, PCP for example, and never own a car, much as we do with mobile phones. Desperately expensive. For bikes it's a bit more complex. I think commuter electric bikes will come quite quickly now and with reasonable pricing will be welcome as utilitarian transport. The future of 'leisure' bikes is a bit less clear. For many bikers the sound, vibration and even smell is all part of the experience, but I think we're a dying breed and the younger generation will welcome clean, fast but perhaps less charismatic bikes with open arms, especially after the ad execs and social media campaigns have worked their magic!

As said by previous commenter its the availability but. affordability...and....... we all know that there will have to be huge expenditure on infrastructure for electric charging in the periods leading up to the bans and the reality is this and no doubt successive governments, will be looking to private investment to fund this infrastructure installation, So not only are there no immediate solutions ( solar and wind is not capable of fueling homes across the country let alone millions of cars) the cost to the public purse will be enormous as each government will have to pay huge subsidies to suppliers to undertake this installation. Let alone the time it will take! this should have been started years ago.........onto more fun things......im looking forward to the next MZ installment..... Cheers!

Oh sure I agree, it's much more complex than just the available tech. Given everyone's feeling the pinch suggesting they commute on a £5-6k e-bike rather than a £3k Honda Vision for example is a tough sell. There again there's the infrastructure, hard to charge an e-bike at home if you're on the 5th floor of a block of flats so yes, huge investment is needed here too. Interesting times. As for the MZ, all the top end bits are hear now, the only concern is whether I should be pulling apart the bottom end to check the mains or whether, if it all feels silky smooth, I take a chance and just pop the new barrel, head and piston kit on...

@@BikingChap well.....its not a hard job to do (as I recall) and can be done with basic tools.....the parts most succeptible to issues with standing are the crank seals..... but what the hey......if you just do the top end and there are issues its only a few hours to strip the whole engine so I suppose I make you right!

@adam-qf2vz absolutely, I just need to dive in :) As soon as we get a day where it isn't pouring with rain and / or blowing a howling gale I'll get started and share with you guys what I find.

I think petrol price will be put so high in the future that petrol bikes and cars won’t be pray for use as transport maybe only for shows, that’s probably why they are banning the lower consumption bikes first, my plan will be to buy a couple of brand new 125s just before they are banned,

I agree, the last of the 125s will be sought after even after the no doubt endless campaigns to make us all think we're luddites etc. Like you I'll look for one of the last ones, just be careful you don't leave it too late as i don't doubt some of them will stop being made before the end so they don't get left with stock and the first we'll know of that is the dealers simply saying we can't get them anymore.

Seems like overkill to me, especially when petrol lawnmowers are still going to be available and they're about as clean as a 1970s Ford Escort lol

It’s obvious, petrol prices will go so high that running a big bike or car for transport will not be practical that’s why they are getting rid of the lower consumption bikes first as they will be still practical to use in future with 100+ miles per gallon,

The future in Europe looks like a totalitarian nightmare. Where will we ride these old bikes? They have already started implementing "15 min cities" So much for a ride in the countryside on a Sunday morning if you are fined for leaving your local shire. Good luck finding petrol to run it on. Guaranteed the cost of owning & running a petrol bike will be made absolutely prohibitive by 2035. Other proposed joys to look forward to: *The closure of all but 3 UK airports by 2035 *The closure of all UK airports by 2049 * Phase out beef and lamb consumption by 2049 * Closure of all shipping routes Thank God I'm old and have lived my life.

I certainly think there are challenges ahead and perhaps governments have put off what needed to be done for fear of it being unpopular, sadly that now means bigger even less popular measures are required. That said, and huge fun though they are, it's hard to champion the cause of fossil fuel burning, it's a finite resource anyway and the cause of so much pollution. From what I can see the 'proposed joys' are largely scare mongering, I'm sure closing all the worlds shipping routes for example would cause some pretty fundamental issues for every country in the world.
