i am so so SO excited to share this short but sweet video with you!!
i’ve never been to a garden party/june event/may ball before this because last year, easter term, and hence, all may balls, were cancelled because of the covid-19 outbreak so I was hoping that in second year i would finally get the experience i've been fantasising about since I got my acceptance letter...
...but covid is still a (very scary and very real) thing lol so it didn't quite end up being all that i expected - but having said that, it was still such a wholesome and super fun time - i think we were 1 of only 3 events that got approval to go ahead and did not get cancelled so it was amazing that it HAPPENED at all and i'm so grateful i got to celebrate the end of second year in this way 🥰
✿ what is a garden party/may ball/june event? ✿
-it is a Cambridge tradition where each college hosts a huge party or celebration after exams end in June (but is confusingly called a MAY ball)
-whether it's called a june event or garden party or may ball depends on the length of the event, may balls can sometimes last until the next morning and those who stay throughout are 'survivors'
-picture that theory of everything scene, but also imagine a combination of a concert, a carnival, a festival but everyone's (typically) dressed more formally

✿ covid disclaimer ✿
-this event was held in accordance with official government and town council guidelines
-all attendees were from newnham college; there was no cross-college mixing
-in addition to the weekly covid testing under the university’s scheme, everyone who attended also had to present a negative lateral flow test done that morning, upon arrival
-throughout the event individuals had to be seated in groups of 6 & could only interact with these people
this was such a precious day 🥺 ~ hope you enjoy the vid as much as i enjoyed myself !!
