Ngl…I cried. I’ve always been a very lonely and socially anxious person growing up. I’ve always made up stories of friendship groups going on adventures, going out, etc, ever since i was a kid. I think that’s why newjeans resonated with me so much, I could project myself onto these young girls having fun and doing normal teenager stuff. But at the end of the day, there’s this sad realisation that none of it is real. It’s all just idealistic escapism of something I’ll never have. What a beautiful mv.

Wow I cried!!!!! Side A is the a story about a girl who cope up with her loneliness and problems with imagining NewJeans (her idol) as her bestfriends. At those moments, her crush is a constant reminder of how she cant escape reality forever. In side B, she 'drops' her 'friendship' with NewJeans and live in reality. Until one day when she's older, she opens the memory box and reminiscing her happy memories with NewJeans. She let them inside her life again with more grace and maturity, and NewJeans are more than happy to take it. :))

Personally, both MVs of DITTO illustrates life, a "Fantasy vs Reality" sort of thing. The first MV shows how we can sometimes live our fantasy that it slowly becomes our new "reality", detaching us from the true reality. Living in that world makes others think we're crazy and weird since we're living in a world that they couldn't understand. A fantasy that fills the emptiness reality couldn't. But as we venture into it, instead of finding happiness, we became more lonely as it begans to numb us since what we are experiencing is not true, nothing is true, but a facade of happiness we put up to make up for the emptiness we feel. The second MV of DITTO shows how detaching ourselves in the fantasy we've lived - our comfort zone, can help grasp the reality we actually need in the first place. Not everything in this world can go like how we want it to be, not everything is comfortable, and that is why we keep venturing to look what makes us TRULY happy. We began to live the life that gives us true happiness, and the Fantasy we've live simply became a past we wish we could have lived longer, but never wanting to truly go back.

This song is about the relationship between Newjeans and their fans. The camera holding girl represents 'Bunnies' (fangroup name of Newjeans) because she is called Ban hee soo in Korean name at this video and that is so similarly pronounced with 'Bunnies'. She's always with Newjeans and takes their videos like a fan is doing at concerts. She also feels supported by them (Newjeans scribbled on her injured arm) and goes through the ordeal with them (they got rained together). But actually they are not real (she is alone in the end), so she can't be together with them forever. (SideA so far) She gradually recognizes that there is the limit to be together with them (She can't come any closer while Newjeans are dancing). So she breaks the camera, does not get rains with them, ignores the call from Minji. She gets out to the real world and begins the new relationship with the boy. But were all the memories they shared useless times? When she gets old, she takes out the video. And in there, Newjeans are still beautiful, nice, close friends of her. She can still remember the beautiful memories they shared. Maybe she wants to say 'I still like you, girls.' Then drawing her on the blackboard, Newjeans would say 'Ditto.' (SideB so far)

this video represents perfectly the relationship between the audience and the idol. the audience is always there to watch the idol. using them to feel love, joy, empathy, connecting with them through their own similarities they feel they have with their idol. this can sometimes be one sided. the idol is often there in "spirt", but not always there in reality. Side A and Side B represent the 2 scenarios one can do with that cold truth. One can realize that even if not together physically, both the idol and audience can still accompany and love the each other in a relationship that is understood mutually. Also, one can find that truth too cold and replace that "unphysical" love and "focus your lens"(the camera representing what you focus on) on a love thats more "real" like the girl does with guy she likes. However, in both scenarios, the "idol"(newjeans) will still be there no matter how long with open arms awaiting the next time they meet again(the deer).

Yeah now I think, the pov of the girl was a suicidal girl who had no friends and made some in her mind, for both M/Vs. You can see the camera off of the roof and it starts glitching. Sad.

Ditto는 노래 자체도 감성적이고 아름다운 명곡이지만 뮤직비디오가 정말 아련한 노스텔지어 감성이 넘치네요 이 뮤직비디오 해석을 본 다음 이걸 보니 특히 사이드 b의 마지막 장면을 볼때마다 울컥하게 돼네요 ㅠ 다시는 돌아갈 수 없는 옛 추억 속의 친구들이 방문을 열고 내 앞에 나타나는 상상, 한때 열정적으로 사랑했고 친밀감을 느꼈지만 현실적인 이유로 멀어지게 된 존재(특히 뉴진스와 같은 아이돌)에 대한 이루어질 수 없는 바람이 담긴 상상, 어느쪽으로 봐도 향수를 자극하면서 슬픕니다 슬프지만 따뜻하고 아름답습니다 어떻게 이런 뮤직비디오를 만들 생각을 했나 싶을 정도로 제가 살면서 본 뮤비 중에 최고였어요

NJ's creative team has such a solid grasp of nostalgia and sentimentality, loneliness and coming of age and what it felt like to grow up in that strange transitory period between the late 90s and early 00s. It's been so weirdly cool to see a Gen Z group embody the Millennial sensibility of this era and see bits and pieces of my childhood through this creative direction. I can't get over the innumerable and deliberate choices they make to really instill that sense of place and time and to capture the longing/projection/elation of modern girlhood. Or how cleverly they've shown what a timeless desire it is to just have a sense of belonging. To have memories and evidence of a life worth living, a friend group that makes you feel loved and confident. To feel pretty and young and cool and carefree or to have the courage to just be yourself. I loved these mvs but they actually resonated so hard with me that I don't know if I could ever watch them again lol. It tapped into an acute sense of both warmth and sadness that kind of forced me to recall the same void I felt as the sixth girl in my own upbringing. It was so well done it was a little overwhelming but that's what makes it especially beautiful. Well done to NJ and their entire team!

wholeheartedly agree. as much as i love the individuals members, i think the production/creative team really really outdid themselves with the group. choosing these specific girls and creating a concepts that evoke nostalgia esp in millenials (ie me lol) and it takes us back to a time when we were younger. the song itself sounds melancholy, nostalgic, "cold", and is filled with longing and the mv matched it so so well.

The MV is very visual centered, but when you look at it from a deeper perspective, it's actually really meaningful and almost sad. The MV shows this 6th person following NewJeans and their activities, they watch them dance, watch them talk to other people, and overall be lively and a great friend, to most of us, our Idols are like imaginary friends we sometimes like to confide in when life gets tough, and the MV shows us that. To everyone else, they see nothing, pure blank, but to us, we see NewJeans, and we hear their songs, and we see their dances, and sometimes we apply these things to our daily life. K-Pop is not just Music, it's a way to connect people, and this is why NewJeans will always be my favorite group, because they understand this. ❤🐇 (EDIT) As for a literal interpretation, I think the 6th member represents us discovering NewJeans, we see them and their confidence, their charisma, and wish we were like that. (the girl seeing them in the subway) We start idolizing them and even thinking what they would do in certain situations (her imagining the girls with her.) Most of their songs are also about young love, which is why the boy is probably there. As for the ending, I think it’s meant to represent the future, after NWJNS disbandment, many of us will look back on them and their activities, dances, etc. and remember memories of them being happy carefree teens. The whole message I think this video is trying to signal is that you only live once, so take every chance you get, grab every opportunity you can. It’s only after the girl throws away the camcorder does she get the chance to talk to the boy, so instead of wishing you were like them, go out there and BE like them.

This MV made me cry. Sometimes you feel that alone in your life that you have to imagine your own comfort people No but I don't think k-pop has ever had a group as unique as New jeans. Kpop is so factory made/ai generated it's like whatever. Like when you REALLY know how the kpop/Korean entertainment industry works you can't help but feel sorry for these really young artists that are literally disposable to the industry they are propping up. The mv can be interpreted in different perspectives. Tragedy, her arms got broken while her other friends didn't survive. Also, maybe she's a loner NewJeans made a part of her life.

Heesoo represents k-pop fans, New jeans represent k-pop idols, the boy represents real life, and the cast on Heesoo's arm represents that she's hurt (Representing mental illness or a traumatic experience) Heesoo is always smiling when she's holding the camera, watching her favorite idols who are also always smiling, putting on a picture-perfect front. When she's met with real life (Her crush) She ignores it, turning away from it as real life is too hurtful for her to face. When she's crying she is met with real life (represented by the boy) and she runs away from New jeans, representing that they in fact can not help her. Even if they want to, they can't, because they aren't actually physically there for her. Later she walks up to New Jeans who are dancing happily even though Heesoo isn't recording. She looks at the cast on her arm and sees that it's blank, realizing that they were never actually there for her when she was injured. She throws her camera away, symbolizing that she puts k-pop and her idols aside, to, in the end, go and live life. Real life. We can see New Jeans when they aren't being recorded, and that's the only time we don't see them being happy, they're not sad, angry, or happy. Just neutral, because when the cameras are off, they won't put on a picture-perfect front. Years later she re-watches the old videos and can look back on the memories of her k-pop period with a smile on her face. Many k-pop fans often say "K-pop saved my life". Many of us came into k-pop when we were at our lowest point in life. But in reality, most of us weren't saved by k-pop. Instead, we develop a toxic relationship with it, expecting our idols to be perfect all the time, and feeling betrayed when they show that they're happy without us, and thinking that they can be our savior when real life hits us. K-pop will always be there, you can always come back to it when you need a break, but real life keeps going, and if you don't deal with it now it will only get worse. Don't use k-pop the wrong way, use it as a mood maker or a boost to help you get through real life. That's my take on it, and I think it's a very great message. Hope my text made sense btw :)

I agree with almost everything, except the part of the toxic relationship with kpop, expecting idols to be perfect and happy and all, and minimizing the feeling many of us have, that their music ACTUALLY saved our lives. Bc for some, it is a reality, not matter how hard some people say otherwise. Music CAN save lives. Now, if you expect artist to be perfect all the time and thinking that they need to be or act in a certain way for you to still like them, then you have a real problem besides the ones you had before hand.

I didn't say that I think idols have to keep up a perfect image or that I would un-stan an idol if they weren't perfect. I didn't talk about this as if it was directed towards me. What I said was that this music video was a message towards the kpop fans that think idols should be perfect and can't stand when they show their human sides. A message to kpop fans who go delutional, thinking that they know their idols and are friends with them and ignoring reality. Kpop is music and entertainment, and for some it's an escape from reality. Only problem is that many people only find comfort in kpop and there for start ignoring reality. That will eventually become a problem. Think about it, someone who only finds joy in their idols and nothing else in life seems to make them happy, they start disconnecting themselves from their suroundings and become some what obsessed with their idol. They only focus on what makes them happy and start ignoring what's really important (real life) but real life goes on, it doesn't paus, can't be rewinded. Ofcourse nothing wrong with spending time listening to kpop or watching their content, but we can't use it as an escape from our reality. Come to your idols to relieve some stress, laugh a little, so that you can get more energy to deal with every day life. That’s what I think they treid to tell us through this music video. Also, just to clarify, I'm not saying that I am obsessed with any idols, can't face reality and so on, and I'm definetly not saying that this aplies to you either, just for clarification :)

ok so for those who are trying to figure out the meaning of this mv, i've done a lil bit of research here. The 6th girl in the friend group has a cast on as you can see throughout the whole mv including side A. So I personally think she got in an accident along with the others and she was the only one who came out alive. This may also have something to do with the deer as it is seen in both mv s and she gets emotional seeing the deer. She goes around, seeing her friends wherever she goes and takes videos of them too as a coping mechanism but at some point, she gives up and tries to fit in as she's seen as insane to others which is why she breaks the camera and starts talking to her crush for a change, to be 'normal'. I'd also like to add that he seems to be aware of the situation and is willing to help her. At the end, it is seen that she replays the videos and smiles while seeing it, showing how she's starting to accept it and move on. Another way of seeing this can be that 6th girl represents us bunnies (their fans). Even the girl's name is Ban Hee soo which sounds similar to bunnies. Anyways it can show how we see new jeans as our close friends but in reality, they aren't physically there for us. We adore them but they don't even know that we exist (wow this is DEEP). Her breaking the camera can show how they're trying to see the reality, how these idols are out of reach so there's no point liking them cuz they're never gonna have a chance meeting and becoming friends but at the end she realises that she should follow what SHE likes, do what makes HER happy so yeah. Comment what you guys think, i'd love to see ur opinions on this song :) Either way i have to say, this song has a really deep meaning and honestly, it depends on how you translate the mv- how you understand it, almost like a template if that makes sense anyways sorry for writing a whole essay lol

This hit rewind through a time that can never come back but will remain only in our hearts and memories. This song makes me want to enjoy life at the moment when we're still as young and energetic as we are at present. It's pure art in motion.

I actually watched B side first and then when I watched A side it was such a plot twist. It feels like you can either watch the videos from A to B or B to A and the feeling and interpretation gets more fuller, kind of slightly different outcome each time I watch it. I like it that they made it so that it adds to the mysterious feeling.

love how at the start of this mv, they show us what she see vs how it actually is, how she has no friends and only look at the boy she likes from the camera until she finally letting go of her imaginary friends and can finally be closer with the boy. then, she got to look at the recording again years later for them to come back into her memories. this is how I understand the MV, it's so pretty, totally giving the Y2K 2000s vibes they want to show us, newjeans the new icon you are! 💖

i also noticed how heesoo has a cast on her arm all throughout the mvs and her school scenes when she's constantly with the girls. the adult heesoo doesn't have the cast so yes the pain goes away but that part of our life when we got into kpop becomes a special memory. it's the most appropriate way to define how most people (newer fans) become kpop fans and escape the burden and heaviness (cast) of our lives.

The creative team that have been guiding New Jeans since debut has done a truly INCREDIBLE job. These girls are getting the absolute best support in terms of concept, songs, choreography, styling and "branding". The "Ditto" sides A & B are two absolutely incredible MVs in terms of the concept and artistry of the MV cinematography and direction. The wistful, melancholic and slightly haunting sound/singing supports perfectly the message of the song. It was truly a stroke of inspiration to make this into two MVs, with both MVs needing to be viewed in order to gain the fuller, more deep meaning. The ending of Side A is so heartbreaking when it dawns upon the viewer the darkness that was obscured by the girl's vicarious joy she experienced through her imaginary friendship with New Jeans. For the second MV, the way I interpreted it, was that the girl finally realizes that it is unhealthy for her to live in an imaginary world in which the New Jeans girls are her imaginary friends, and she makes a painful decision to leave her imaginary world and to live in reality (she destroys the camera, walks with the boy, has relationship problems. etc.). That is also why the deer walks away in the corridor, as she no longer lives in a fantasy world. Then, years later the adult version of the girl returns to her childhood bedroom reminisces about her past, including the happy memories of her passion for Kpop idols (symbolized by New Jeans). The girl (now a woman) is able to again let New Jeans back into her life in a healthy manner (with the 5 New Jeans girls happily reentering her room), as she is now more grounded and better able mentally to reap the benefits of Kpop without the unhealthy obsession that her less mature self fell into.

I don't think a kpop music video has actually made me cry at the end. This is an amazing concept I've never seen before in kpop. Never thought I'd say this but I love New Jeans now.

i don't know how many times i watched this mv, there could be a lot of interpretations behind each scenes and surprisingly it can somehow relate to us, i think that's ADOR's plan and they didn't fail. the MV has this feeling of abandonment, feeling stuck from past, and trying to move on from the memories that's making us alive at the same time lost. plus the factor that the chorus is addictive yet calming. I'm so glad Kpop has NEWJEANS now, everything on them is such a breath of fresh air.

The truth is that all our choices and decisions are made only by us, despite there being external interference. We are only at the breaking point of change when we decide "alone" to change, or to be part of the change. The two MVs portray this: change. In A she is alone from the beginning and sees herself alone, in B only at the end is she alone and sees herself alone. The important thing is, no matter who you are with, or alone, seek your happiness without forgetting that it often lies in the small and simple things in life.

you might know this but "It ain't me" by Kygo & Selena Gomez also gave me a similar vibe. Their stories are different but it gave me similar emotions, and just like people are doing with this song, people are making speculations into the deeper meanings of the MV

This is a STRONG MV concept omg. I wonder how Min Heejin explained this concept to the members because they executed it perfectly. It wasn't just "dance here, make this expression, stand here" but they legitimately grasped the concept and expressed it well. This MV kinda continues the technology theme from Hype Boy, but takes it a step further to show the relationship between idols and their supporters. I'm actually really happy they chose this concept for NewJeans, it's nuanced and hard to swallow but that's what makes it incredible!

I sorta teared up watching this and I have no idea why. There’s a haunting aspect about it, but at the same time the song and video exudes happiness. It’s just warm and chill, that anyone could vibe to. It seems that it’s from a fans perspective, and they are looking into the glass of New Jeans. Even though they may not be close with them on a personal level, it shows the contrast of New Jeans and the fan simultaneously, and both their journeys within life. The fan imagines New Jeans are there with them, each step of the way.

I don’t think there be a song can beat Ditto, like the song itself and the concept, even NJs themselves can’t make another song be this aesthetic

I always come back to Ditto and especially to this MV when I need comfort... It's definitely a song I wanted to hear and its definitely a song i needed in my life.. It just perfectly captures the joy and melancholy i feel with my youth now..

ㅠㅠ 애들은 학교에 남아있고 "희수" 혼자 걸어나가는거 너무..찡하다.. 학창시절에 좋아했던 나의 우상같은 존재들은 추억으로 남겨두고 사회에 걸어나가는 우리네 팬들을 표현한것같은.. 이 부분.. 너무... 눈물 광광.. 진짜 학창시절에 애들이랑 유행하는 노래 엄청 부르고 춤추고 그랬는데...ㅠ 그리워요 그때가.. 모든게 마냥 좋았던 그때..ㅠ 돌고래유괴단은 계속해서 뮤비를 제작하길 바랍니다 ..^^

Actually if you look at Min Heejins old work and old story based Kpop MVs you will see that this used to be popular. Newjeans seems to be trying to bring that type of MV back.

I still remember the Spotify retrospective, it was my most listened to song and I knew it but I couldn't help but cry. Ditto became my emotional comfort song, I love it. I love the aesthetics, the mv and the theories. I just love everything about ditto, this is so nostalgic, I hope to come back here years and years and when I'm about 30 years old, see my comments and remember how much I love it all.

All of their voices …I’m beginning to be able to tell who’s singing without looking now which means they have developed their own styles and tones. Hanni has such a pretty tone.

i really love how it’s about all five of them around their friend’s love story. like they’re a figment of much needed imagination when she cannot deal with being alone. what a beautiful, unique concept.

Ditto is such an amazing song,when were growing up we will always get emotionally attached to something which i got to ditto,this song is just the definition of an angelic melody(the woo woo wooo~~ part)why do i feel like crying now😭

진짜 솔직한 감상...... 뉴진스를 볼 때는 다른 아이돌들과는 다르게 중고등학교 때 자신의 모습도 생각 나면서 그들 속에 함께 있고 싶고 가끔은 속해 있는 것 같은 은밀한 기분과, 더불어 상상에서 깨어 현실을 자각할 때 느껴지는 미묘한 공허를 느낄 때가 있음. 민희진이 한꺼풀 꾸밈을 벗은 것 같은, 자연스러움을 추구하는 아이돌 뉴진스를 만들 때 그것까지 의도했는지 궁금했는데. 이 뮤비를 보니 정확한 의도였구나 알겠다.

The two MVS made me cry... it felt so real. The loneliness. Imaginary friends, or friends long gone. Friends that are close and can do anything together. It really resonated with me

There is just something so nostalgic and melancholic about their music, videos, choreography, and even their fashion style. It kinda reminds me back of the 90's era somehow. I've just discovered NewJeans yesterday, and as a musician myself from Indonesia, I already fall in love with them. Big & huge respect for all the whole team and concept creators behind NewJeans. They're definitely very different & unique from most generic K-POP groups out there.

This is what I’ve missed since the 2nd generation… a storyline and authenticity. Other than all the flashy and colorful upbeat songs. New jeans has created such a 2nd generation feeling.

高校生活を思い出させてくれる素敵な作品です。

I was a kpop fan back in the 2014/2018 days. This is the only kpop group that's captured my attention in Gen 4. It hits me in my heart.

This type of K-pop MV is so fresh and so pleasing to hear and watch . Newjeans is so talented!
