I can't believe there really are examples of cookie standing for suggestive stuff...finally understand why people say this song sus. (it weirded me out b4 because of how the lyrics seems to be calling out the (imaginary) boy "sweetly" but I honestly felt rather eerie about how it is saying to "pay the price" or "be absolutely crazy loving the girls"?)

Apparently the song is about their album which is the "cookie" they're referring to. Similar to the theme of Everglow's Bon Bon Chocolat being about how sweet it is to debut.

the cookie is definitely a metaphor for something, but its never explicitly said what it could be. I've seen people say that it could be their music but others say it's something inappropriate like most people assume but im guessing we wont know what it was supposed to be..

These girls are great. The music is great. These lyrics, however, are utterly unacceptable, no matter how anyone tries to spin it. Their company knew what they were doing with this song, they knew the discussion it would provoke - it's all (alarmingly) premeditated.

As someone who's lived in the states for a long time as a Korean, I totally understand how the lyrics translated can sound like innuendos. For example, dani singing "licking on my cookie, doesn't it smell different.." and the members singing "there's no meal or drink, you'll only want the dessert" sound very wrong. HOWEVER in Korean, 'cookie' doesn't refer to a woman's genital area and we don't use the expression "skipping a meal" when referring to sex. We don't use the word 'dessert' to refer to sex as well. I'm not trying to defend Min Hyejin in any way because the company should have thought this through if they were trying to get a global audience. but I hope international fans can understand we don't think of these lyrics as innuendos in the Korean language.

@@archwillow one thing is that Koreans have literal meanings in their songs when talking about something (because, let’s be honest, when reading Korean lyrics songs, their meanings are literal and doesn’t have that “second meaning”) but at this point I can’t keep defending it. “Looking at my cookie” “It’s too soft, I can’t stop thinking about it” “I’m hiding it, but I want to see you more” “Make recipes that you won’t see anywhere else, boy” “I wanna see you taste it” “I want to mess up your diet” “Made a little cookie, Come and take a lookie, Only at my house, come over and play” AND adding this with all the Min Hyejin stuff, I just don’t think it’s coincidence this sounds so wrong. And I’m obviously not the only one who thinks that.

@augustine the way y'all worship korean netizens and everything they say is so weird. these lyrics were made by someone who speaks english and anyone who does speak it can say for sure that it's filled with innuendo. it's obvious. the fact that you have to try so hard to convince yourself and others that it's an innocent song should tell you everything.
They have a 90s American vibe in every song so far. Makes you feel relaxed but still wanna dance. And it's refreshing from the other fourth-generation groups.

HYBE explained in a statement that "The song revolves around the paired idea of burning CDs and baking cookies, which share the same conceptual verb in Korean" and so the song is not what you think it's about. You guys need to get your mind out of the gutter lol. This is actually my favorite NewJeans song and it's the one that made me stan them so please stop hating on it.

@@adamzimmerman2464 when hybe explains something, that doesn't necessarily mean it's true, they'll lie if that's what it takes to get rid of the hate they get. this song is very-very obviously about...not literal cookies and CDs. maybe that was indeed the concept of the MV and song, but def not the actual meaning behind the lyrics. but either way, im honestly not that bothered by it. it's just a song, and an enjoyable one at that. the members don't have to actually show what the song's about through MV or choreo, so it's fine.

There’s no limit on stanning pity and it’s quite hypocritical atp. Everyone in kpop have the privilege of having a company who can help them promote unlike the natural talented musicians on streets that were too old for most people’s tastes, no abs, no sexy choreos, married or not your type of visual etc. Many like New Jeans music before everything bs everyone in kpop does lately. This is a breath of fresh air in the over saturated and overwhelming kpop industry. That simple.

I think their voices also very warm and pelasant to listen. I guess most of their vocal type would be sopranos, but since this song had lower key, so it's more comfortable to sing. Amazing concept indeed, stand out amongst the sea of high pitched girl group songs.

apparently in korean its not even meant that way its saying come look at my cd’s which means come look at my songs so pretty much it’s mistranslated in english and now all international fans are thinking the song is dirty while it actually isn’t
i probably will get hate for saying this but I think the reason I love this groups sound so much is because it reminds me of red velvet’s sound when they first debuted! (im talking Automatic & Be Natural) the 90s r&b / chill music. i absolutely love this, I really do see potential in this group simply because their concept alone is REFRESHING! it shows that we don’t always need over the top, LOUD MUSIC/DEBUTS. i was waiting for kpop to take on a 90s/early 2000s girl group concept ! i swear this is IT! edit: thank you reveluvs & everyone who kindly agreed ! i didn’t expect so many people to agree, i thought I’d get hate because I know that people hate when others compare groups! i didn’t want anyone to get the wrong idea! 🤍also just wanted to say every group has their own unique sound, NJ has their own sound, they just make me reminisce 2014-2015 red velvet, which I absolutely love :) !!

INTERNATIONAL FANS!! We know why you guys feel shame on this songs lyrics. But in korea, cookie mean just CD. 1990, we listen to music with 'empty CD + songs'. We often said 'I baked CD.'.😅😅😅😅 I think the lyrics mean just 'You're gonna fall for our song.'. I want HYBE to be more careful... It's not a pure luck that the talent, catchy tunes, chord progression and choreography overweight the lyrics. Someone said coulda wait a few more years and I agree. But still. A great song is a great song. And Minji's smirk throughout this mv is hella fine. (Don't judge me, she's a gorgeous girl).

The MV is simplistic and minimalistic, with a focus more on the members choreography and dance. The hook part where they say "coookieeee" is really addicting and the cut transition swinging from white to black is interesting to watch.
Even though it hasn't even been two years since her debut, everything is perfect! And I love this song the most!

다른노래도 좋지만....노래랑 뮤비 와 진짜 완전내취향..뮤비 진짜 5번이상본듯...처음에 쿠키가 굴려간게 마지막에 반대로 cd가 굴러가면서 나간거랑 벤치로 안무 이용하는거랑 여러가지 조명이 비춰주는데 오히려 더 집중되고 몰입력되게됌... 생각보다 안무를 더 잘 보이는 뮤비인데 멤버들 정말 쭉쭉 잘 추는 장점도 보이고 팬이 되게끔 cd도 가끔씩 나오고... 난 이 노래가 너무 좋다 ㅠㅠ뮤비도 진짜 오래만에 걸그룹중에서 엄청 집중해서 보는거같아요....이런 뮤비를 볼수있게 기획해줘서 너무 감사해요..덕분에 눈도 즐겁고 힐링이 돼요

😅 Our comments are complete opposites. I didn't enjoy this song much. I really wanted to like it. I liked their other songs . . . This one annoys me and I don't know why. I too saw a hint of their dance ability . . . Hope they soon show us more actual dance moves instead of the expected Sailor Moon poses of other girl groups.

Idk how the lyrics were translated in other countries, but baking cookies in Korea means "baking CDs=put musics on the CD." So the lyrics mean that members prepared a song for the fans.

As someone who's lived in the states for a long time as a Korean, I totally understand how the lyrics translated can sound like innuendos. For example, dani singing "licking on my cookie, doesn't it smell different.." and the members singing "there's no meal or drink, you'll only want the dessert" sound very wrong. HOWEVER in Korean, 'cookie' doesn't refer to a woman's genital area and we don't use the expression "skipping a meal" when referring to sex. We don't use the word 'dessert' to refer to sex as well. I'm not trying to defend Min Hyejin in any way because the company should have thought this through if they were trying to get a global audience. but I hope international fans can understand we don't think of these lyrics as innuendos in the Korean language.

I’m a New Jeans fan since their first debut song, and I really really love this new girl group since this is the first girl group that has a different song genre that Hybe made. Plus since they are minors, please please take care of them. What I mean by that is too not dress them as if they were 20 and older 🫤 Let them have their childhood and don’t make them stress. Other thing. I love their music, I like this MV because if the rhythm but the lyrics? The lyrics have double meaning like bruh they are still teens. Let them sing songs according to their age, don’t let them sing things they probably don’t even know the meaning behind it :/ This types of songs should be for mature girl groups that are mature and sure on what they are singing. But other than that I appreciate the hard work this wonderful girls out in to🙂

I'm sure the company did this on purpose...especially for a rookie group, there's no such thing as bad publicity I guess 🫤 I especially didn't like that they had the maknae in the most revealing outfit in the Attention MV. That may be normal for some teens in the west, but in Korea? No 14yr old is wearing a tube top like that. Really love their vibes tho, and they're all so talented!
