Look for Abayomy Afrobeat Orchestra my brother, its a band from Rio de Janeiro that started as a Fela Day tribute from musicians! They still host annually a Fela Day meeting around the city, but the band developed many original songs that are just incredible like Fela's. Kalakuta lives!!!

Don't let their looks fool you, they may look non African, but this group is from Chile, South America. Chile and most of South America is known for having West African slaves (their descendants still live there today) and some of them in this band (not all) might have some African ancestry in them, especially the female lead singer (I know a mixed person when I see one), this is probably why they feel comfortable doing Afro-beat music in which Fela Kuti influence them while taking on African cultures, because they know their history, but music is music no matter what race is doing it.

Equalizer music of the 1930s and 1940s? You’re trying to say swing had no African influence? Jazz uses western instruments sure but without black people it just straight up would not exist at all. Edit: for clarification, I’m just assuming you’re talking about swing, because the 30s and 40s was the swing era. It was popular the the time, and it was invented by and popularized by black people

+bostikforever i believe this band is called antibalas, they are from new york, and they pretty much worshiped fela while he was alive and they are the only band that can recreate a Fela number like the oga himself

this music never makes meaning to me all this while except enjoying it grooves(17yrs past) finally I feel like crying. this song has a deep meaning in it lyrics, american man, China man, Russia man all have their names and culture to support their growth. but African man we still lives in psychological slavery that's why everything is upsidedown. this remix make me understand what fela wants from us africans in general. the whites men who most of their system is near to perfect also is reminded to not let lose of the good things they have achieved. fela u live on in our heart.
