My daughter was very yellow and had to go for so many invasive blood tests, stool and urine samples. Turned out it wasn't jaundice, it's just her natural colour! Daddy is Burmese so she's got beautiful yellowy olive skin and a perfectly healthy 10 year old now. Love you Dr. PAUL. I'm praying for you xx

Being an Indian and mom to a preemie whose now 23 months old born with jaundice and low birth weight, after light therapy at hospital and discharge we used to sit in morning sun for nearly an hour. This helped him a lot. ( its advised by my mom that exposing tummy to sunlight in pregnancy can reduce the risk of jaundice, I carried my son only for 7 months so couldn't really follow.

I had to get induced at 37 week from having Cholestasis, My baby was born with jaundice they sent us home with his jaundice at 14, We got home a day after birth and he was fine and the next day at night he wouldn’t wanna eat he was just sleeping and I try to wake him up by getting him naked and no he still wanted to sleep. So I knew something wasn’t okay. So I took him to the ER found out his jaundice got to 19 and he had infection also from a vaginal birth. He stayed in the nicu for 10 days. Now my baby is 14 months old very heathy active boy. My baby could’ve had brain damage. Always use your mommy instance.

Eldest one was placed under light therapy and youngest was placed in front of our large balcony window, where there is a lot of both direct and filtered sunlight, as advised by doc and nurses. Definitely helped! They said it was normal for siblings to get it, so long as the bilirubin numbers weren’t huge.

My son was born at U.S Naval hospital in Japan back in 1982, he is half Japanese and American. My husband was very concerned since our son looked very yellow. We brought our son back to the hospital when he was 4 days old. This hospital never had dealt with newborn with jaundice so it was a frightening experience for all of us. I couldn’t breastfeed him so it was very painful. He spent a day in a incubator with light and he was released next day, thank goodness!!

people born with G6PD deficiency (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency) have a higher propensity for this problem. Note: 10% of African Americans have it. I have the Mediterranean variant, the most severe. If it's not caught and lingers, the bilirubin passes the blood brain barrier, lays on the brain, causing permanent brain damage. Lots of women go home so soon, that they don't realize the baby is jaundiced.

Of course, he was a summer baby and I was able to take him outside in a diaper under a tree; (so we'd do 1 min in sun at 4 pm&; 1 min in shade for a few minutes every day). Lol. Now I'm an overproducer but for some reason I really don't make enough milk for 2-3 weeks and have to use a pump and formula to get the process started. 💁

Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) can also be a warning sign of liver problems. If your baby has jaundice, exposure to light will help it to go away, but I would suggest you ask your child’s doctor to run blood tests to make sure nothing is wrong with the liver.

Billy Reubens? That's adorable! My boy had those lights on him too. He was in a NICU for a month (different condition) but developed some jaundice at about 6 days old. The lights were a blue tint and he only needed them one night. He's very well now, been 100%healed, thank God. (P.S. bilirubin, is also the same stuff that makes poops brown)

@@B.Mega.D the doctor and nurses told us it was Billy Reuben's that he had. I don't get how that's "adorable" as we were first time parents and feared for the life of our child...maybe it's spelled differently or pronunciation is different, but that's what we were told and that name will stick with me for the rest of my life cause of his condition

Dang man...I'm sorry you took it that way. I genuinely like the way you said it...it DOES sound like it, and it made me smile. I didn't mean to come of as grammar police. I'm glad your son is well and I DO know what it's like to be a new parent and get scary news. Happy holidays! (if you celebrate, and if you don't: have a great day :)

@@B.Mega.D just a misunderstanding and appreciate you reaching out. I'm sorry you had to go through it too. One of the few times I felt so helpless and scared. Happy holidays to you and your family as well

@@dcbqb19 The doctor told you it was bilirubin, and you misheard. There is no such thing as Billy Reuben's and a doctor or nurse would never tell you that your son had something that doesn't exist. I thought it was funny too when I read your comment and I also thought it was adorable. I just hope you don't tell your child he had "Billy Reuben's" and then he goes through life telling people he had that. It can be important to know the correct term for things.

Nothing sad about it. Many babes are born jaundiced. The only set back I had with our third boy, is I am still on a website of inability to donate blood.

PLEASE!!! Secure your nose bridge on your mask. You can bend them so they stay ON. You're constant touching of the outside of the mask, raising and lowering, then touching the face and body or these little babies, even while their livers are not working, is absolutely frightening.
