My daughter was very yellow and had to go for so many invasive blood tests, stool and urine samples. Turned out it wasn't jaundice, it's just her natural colour! Daddy is Burmese so she's got beautiful yellowy olive skin and a perfectly healthy 10 year old now. Love you Dr. PAUL. I'm praying for you xx

Glass filters out UVB rays which are necessary to fight jaundice. I just learned this myself after having a jaundiced baby go 7 weeks before it cleared.
So glad you are bringing awareness to this. My daughters levels got up to a 38 at 24 hours old. she has brain damage now and a lot of challenges. Such an EASY thing to prevent.

I'm so sorry. But how could someone prevent this at such a young baby?
Glad to see you back doc.
Being an Indian and mom to a preemie whose now 23 months old born with jaundice and low birth weight, after light therapy at hospital and discharge we used to sit in morning sun for nearly an hour. This helped him a lot. ( its advised by my mom that exposing tummy to sunlight in pregnancy can reduce the risk of jaundice, I carried my son only for 7 months so couldn't really follow.
I had to get induced at 37 week from having Cholestasis, My baby was born with jaundice they sent us home with his jaundice at 14, We got home a day after birth and he was fine and the next day at night he wouldn’t wanna eat he was just sleeping and I try to wake him up by getting him naked and no he still wanted to sleep. So I knew something wasn’t okay. So I took him to the ER found out his jaundice got to 19 and he had infection also from a vaginal birth. He stayed in the nicu for 10 days. Now my baby is 14 months old very heathy active boy. My baby could’ve had brain damage. Always use your mommy instance.
Thank you for the way that you explained this. We need more doctors who stay calm for their patients and give clear paths to resolution of a problem and the reasons why. I fear many use fear to “strong arm” their patients. Thanks for all you do.
Keep on fighting. You do not deserve this harassment and threatens
I just learned why newborn babies look comparatively red! Thanks to Dr Paul and the baby and parents, blessings! 😊
One of the amazing things about YT is watching and subscribing to Dr. Paul's Channel
I put my baby in the biggest window for sunlight. It went away but then came back and had some labs done and he was sent to the ER at Children's Hospital and was there for 1 wk and done a liver biopsy until it was diagnosed with biliary Atresia. He needed a liver transplant. He was just 4 months old. He went thru so much and he had his transplant at 9 months
Keep fighting the good fight!
Thank you for what you do!
Thanks sir.. God bless you to win the fight

Both my daughters had jaundice , because I was O blood type and they were B. Both placed under light therapy and supplement with formula along with breastfeeding to help them 💩 we were not discharged after giving birth until the level went down. We returned to the hospital after one week for a blood test and it was OK.
peds resident here and I love watching these videos!
When my brother was born my dad brought him into the small hospital in our hometown because he had a light yellow tint to him, the dr. Said nothing wrong he’s fine and sent him home two days later he brought him back, and he was rushed to a large hospital, we stayed there with a week with him under a special light. It was very scary.
Both my kids had jaundice. Eldest one was placed under light therapy and youngest was placed in front of our large balcony window, where there is a lot of both direct and filtered sunlight, as advised by doc and nurses. Definitely helped! They said it was normal for siblings to get it, so long as the bilirubin numbers weren’t huge.
He is beautiful both of my boys had jaundice at birth. I think my oldest had it the worst. Thank you for bringing awareness to this. This is why your the best doctor ever!!!

Amazing.. Dr paul explained it beautifully ❤️. If anyone's little newborn cutie has jaundice.. It's best to get it evaluated as dr paul said. ✌🏼️
All 3 of my children had jaundice. I guess us country people know that you expose them to sunlight as well. Sitting them by the window was the first step. All of them are grown adults now. God bless you all
My son was born at U.S Naval hospital in Japan back in 1982, he is half Japanese and American. My husband was very concerned since our son looked very yellow. We brought our son back to the hospital when he was 4 days old. This hospital never had dealt with newborn with jaundice so it was a frightening experience for all of us. I couldn’t breastfeed him so it was very painful. He spent a day in a incubator with light and he was released next day, thank goodness!!

Yeah between the sleeping and the yellowing he almost looks like a doll.
I was a jaundice baby due to my RH factor and at 4days old I was hospitalized for over 2+ months
My son had this and i remember at the hospital they had him under lights with little glasses on.
people born with G6PD deficiency (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency) have a higher propensity for this problem. Note: 10% of African Americans have it. I have the Mediterranean variant, the most severe. If it's not caught and lingers, the bilirubin passes the blood brain barrier, lays on the brain, causing permanent brain damage. Lots of women go home so soon, that they don't realize the baby is jaundiced.
My younger sister had this too and sunlight helps. Although morning sunlight is ideal as it gets too hot in the afternoon.
I had jaundice and was put in the window to sleep. All 3 of my daughters were jaundiced. All are grown and super smart!
Awwwe lil baby!!!!
Cute how baby slept through the WHOLE process lol! 😴😴😴😴
My sister had really bad jaundice and had to go under lights in the hospital, Was really worrying as was in winter and not alot of sun
Very interesting
My baby was born at home at 96% W/L and was mildly jaundiced for 7 weeks! Midwife and pediatrician were not concerned and levels were never tested. I was starting to worry, but it cleared up and he’s a happy healthy kid now. I also learned that glass filters out the necessary light to combat jaundice only AFTER exposing him to filtered sun for 2 weeks. Oh well.
My Italian grandma used to say the same thing. Put them outside to help cure the yellowness
Had to supplement w my Littles due to highrisk billirubin. Was cleared up by day 3-5; I forget which. Of course, he was a summer baby and I was able to take him outside in a diaper under a tree; (so we'd do 1 min in sun at 4 pm&; 1 min in shade for a few minutes every day). Lol. Now I'm an overproducer but for some reason I really don't make enough milk for 2-3 weeks and have to use a pump and formula to get the process started. 💁
Same baby as in the “two holes in his head” video?😂 Cute baby, perfect model for these videos🥰 Thank you for all you do to teach, guide, and help others Dr Paul, you are amazing!! 💜💛

My daughter is 47yrs. old and she was born with jaundice due to the Rh factor. Dr. Tanner the pediatrician put her under a florescent light. She cleared up from the jaundice. Do they still use this procedure? I'm from Michigan and I'm a Registered nurse of 40yrs. This happened when I wasn't knowledgeable and wasn't a nurse.
Adorable baby, I had no idea jaundice could be so dangerous, thank you for the information!

I watch a lot of videos with baby’s. They are SO cute it almost hurts. I have a question. I see a lot of these newborns being put under the lights. I had five kids and breastfed round the clock and none of mine developed any yellowing. This was 18-32 yrs ago. Is it more common now or was I just lucky?

I was told that part of the bilirubin picture was the birth weight of the baby. The higher the birth weight, the higher the bilirubin numbers can safely rise. Is this true?

Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) can also be a warning sign of liver problems. If your baby has jaundice, exposure to light will help it to go away, but I would suggest you ask your child’s doctor to run blood tests to make sure nothing is wrong with the liver.

Gotta say, we thought our baby was tan cause I am regularly tan but the doctor had us do tests like this and mentioned Billy Reuben's. We wound up having to take him in for the follow up where he had to have a turtle shell with special lights on him for 2 days. Scariest day of my life and most helpless I have felt to this day.
