How is no one talking about the man who goes because he’s concerned about his own drinking!!! How strong is he to face a possible growing addiction well done!!,

During the very difficult time of my mother's descent into Alzheimer's, and her subsequent death three years ago, I was hitting the bottle to the extent that I twice visited my GP surgery to express my concern and perhaps referral to an alcohol addiction centre. The first doctor (male) seemed to find the situation amusing and told me I should see how far worse other people were who came to him. He did offer some literature, but was really quite dismissive about the effectiveness of the places I could go, as well as implying I was just being a big girl's blouse. The second time, I saw another GP (female) who was far more engaged and sympathetic, pointing out that alcohol and the fluoxetine I daily take conflicted with the other. She too gave me some local addresses of voluntary centres which might help. Neither suggested I come back at some point as a follow-up. All I am saying is that it took courage for me to visit a GP about this matter, and that their responses were interesting in how they approached it. And, yes, I still drink. Robert, UK.

I have multiple spinal problems and other injuries and illnesses that require 24 hour medication. My Pain Specialist has been a Godsend. They ablated the nerves in my lower back and I was able to reduce my medication. Pain is a complex issue that needs a multi-disciplinary team of GP’s, specialists, physical therapy and sometimes even psychologists/psychiatrists. Huge doses of opiates can be deadly. I know this. My own daughter died of an overdose at only 26. If this man feels he is addicted (true addiction seldom occurs when taking only the minimal medication required to control pain and using other modalities) then I would get him to a pain specialist ASAP. He needs help on many levels if he is to lead a normal life. Maybe he has already tried those things. I hope he gets better. Those of us living with daily chronic pain have no desire to see other suffer.

@@doyouhearthepeoplesing2 It took me 3 months to feel normal after my emergency c section. I laboured for 3 days before. My incision also opened and got infected having to be packed for 6 weeks. Getting in and out of bed and even a car was agony for weeks i had to sleep sitting up for 5 weeks because it was agony to pull myself up. You don't realise how much you take using your stomach muscles for granted until they're all cut open 🙃. I recovered from my 2nd csection within 2-3 weeks. Not everyone is able to get up and do normal things 11 days after delivery, props to the dad if he offered her to stay and rest. My partner would have done the same, but some don't. My friend had an episiotomy and it took her 4 weeks to recover. The age of the baby doesn't make a difference in recovery time, 11 days is still very soon after a birth.

@@doyouhearthepeoplesing2 it's totally normal for babies to wake up during the night and require food, only our society likes to belive that newborns should sleep through the night. I would be worried if a 3 week old baby wouldn't wake up for 12 hours straight. Were you bottle fed? That might resolve the mistery, it's common to overfeed while bottle feeding, hence babies sleep longer.

Maybe because she hasn't made that baby alone, so it's normal to send daddy with it to the doctor. A mum's place is in the boardroom, not at the GP with a baby ;)

If someone doesn’t trust the bio father to take their newborn to the doctor alone then they shouldn’t be with them period but that’s just my opinion. I wouldn’t trust my sons bio dad to take him to the doctor even now at 4 and that’s why I’m lucky he wants nothing to do with him.
