    Haha, she's definitely more popular, it's no competition. What is important is that we both help to show you more about the job and more about the people behind the uniform. That is the whole reason I wanted to make this series in the first place. I'm super glad everyone has supported her videos and I can't wait to see what else is coming. - Constable Hurn.

    Afternoon Constable Hurn! I'm sure it's a bit different between different agencies and different countries, but would it be possible to do a video on dispatchers and their experience/training, or maybe what it takes to become a dispatcher over there? I'm currently in the application process for becoming a dispatcher at my local police department and I'm constantly looking for videos where I can continue to learn about the field. Thanks so much and keep up the good work!

    Hey Johnny. Love the work you do!!! I'm coming up to the theory testing and ihave a question regarding the psychometric test. Do you have any tips on how to prepare for it and how hard was it? Cheers.

  • @doncoleman4938

    @doncoleman4938

    5 жыл бұрын

    I did the psychometric tests for police and ambulance in Australia years ago. There are online practice tests that cover the verbal, numerical, special relations and situational judgement. Basically though, you can either pass them, or you can't. I'm not sure if you can truly practice; just my opinion there. NZP is a member of ANZPAA, and no doubt NZP uses a similar recruit selection process as Australian police. Remember that throughout the selection process it's not about how good you are, but how much better you are than the next person. Consider this scenario. NZP want 100 officers this year, and get 2000 applicants. Of those, only 500 make it to the psychometric testing. The top 150 make it to the next level. You could score 94%, but if 150 others get 95% or better, you don't go through to the next level. Don't let this scare you. You could well be one of the 100 who make it through. I made it in to the police first time, but it took 3 tries for the ambulance. Don't give up first time around if not successful. Best wishes with your progression through the selection process.

    Penalties for drink driving should be much tougher in my opinion. A drunk driver is such a liability. Sooner rather than later there's going to be a bad outcome. Sitting in the back of a Police car laughing about it just shows the message just isn't getting through to some people. It's too late saying sorry to a grieving family.

That said there are heaps of ex personal trainers, gym junkies, army personal and other super fit people floating around the Police. The crazy work outs in the gym are from a few outrageously fit people at our base and I often attempt to copy them. - Constable Hurn.

    I do about an hour and half session 6 days a week, before every shift with rare exceptions. My first day off and first day back on are usually my rest days. On days off i go a bit harder with things and push myself. Everyone is different, lots of the team work out after work too but personally I'm just too tired for that. I've had some difficult offenders even after big work out sessions, as long as you're sensible it's fine and personally probably better for my energy level. - Constable Hurn.

    You risk your life every day as a police officer, dealing with the people you are around. Ignoring that fact of policing would be naive. However it’s not something you think about when performing your job, and the privilege of being able to keep the community safe makes you sometimes forget how dangerous it is. Can’t speak for NZ but in Australia you’ll cop mental, physical and verbal abuse on the daily, and you’ll find most people you deal with on a daily basis really hate police officers. it is a career, you are a police officer 24/7 even when you clock off, However in saying that it is the best job in the world IMO, it’s almost addicting and I couldn’t work a ‘normal’ job again
