A young Sambar Stag we saw this week just after a short battle with an older deer. New Zealand Hunting free range Sambar is in small pockets of the North Island, New Zealand. Weighing more than a Red Stag Sambar deer spend most of their time in heavy vegetation seldom coming out into the open. With low numbers of Sambar deer in New Zealand finding a trophy class mature Stag can be challenging, and take time so hunters need to be patient and have the ability to stalk very quietly while searching.
