Glad you got a package from my home state of Washington. I can never forget when Mt St Helens erupted because it erupted on my Birthday in 1980. I just tell people I was born on Mt St Helens day.

Oregonian here in the house. Love seeing Oregon and Washington represented in this episode. I was a kid when Mt St Helen’s erupted, living in Oregon City (End of the Oregon Trail) and I remember watching the mountain erupt. We lived high on a hill and our house faced North where we had a clear view of the mountain. although Mt St. Helens was about 90 miles away, we clearly watched it erupt and within a few hours, everything outside was covered in a thin layer of ash. Everyone was collecting and saving the ash for memories. My mom still has several containers of it. There’s a good visitors center that has been built and lots of hiking trails around and up to the crater. Who knows, it might blow again someday? But many say Mt Rainer (closer to Seattle) or Mt Hood, closer to Portland, could erupt some day too! Probably same chance as running into Bigfoot. Ha ha. But none of that stops us from taking advantage of all that is offered by our beautiful mountains year round; like hiking in the summers and playing in the snow in the winters. I hope you get a chance to see the Pacific Northwest on one of your travels! All the best to you!

My grandparents lived in the greater Seattle area when this happened and he had to be called into work as he worked for the phone company at the time. Before he left he set a jar in the back yard and when he came back there was so much ash he couldn't find the jar and he and my grandma had to dig through the ash to find it.

I was 8 years in 1980 when the Mountain Blew. The ash plume really did blot out the sun. The ash has been made into so many different things. I love watching your videos and am so glad you finally received a box from the true gem of the Northwest Washington State!

I remember Mt St Helens blowing. More than once. I was way up on the Olympic peninsula the first time. We stopped and watched it. It was awesome. When we got back home there was fine ash covering everything, but a week later on May 25th she blew again we had about half an inch of ash all over everything. It was ruining cars and if you had a breathing problem you stayed indoors. I'm from Western Washington about 30 miles from the mountain if you flew. I haven't been there for more than 20 years now but there was still ash then. That was a great gift for you to get!

I remember the eruption of Mt. St. Helens as a kid and feeling the dusting of the ash on my arms on the "west" side of the state in the suburbs of Seattle. It was a beautiful and sunny morning. We thought someone had caught tires on fire as the there was a streak of black in the sky down south. A neighbor went inside and came out and yelled, "St. Helen's blew St. Helens Blew!" I will never forget it. We don't have hurricanes or loads of thunderstorms but I can say that I lived through a volcano eruption. Other artist in the area use the ash to blow glass art and it's beautiful. I gave my aunt in California flowers.

I am glad the package with the marbles, ash and wands arrived. I sent it last September and was able to track it until it arrived in NZ. I was beginning to wonder if it had gotten lost in NZ customs or the like. It is beginning to look like you will need to open a museum to display all the artifacts you are getting! Enjoy. Oh and for the record Yakima is the name of a indian tribe that lives in the area and it is pronounced YAK a ma. Those of us that live here can tell when someone is not local by the way they pronounce the MANY indian place names. TRY Kennewick the place where along the banks of the Columbia River, Kennewick Man was discovered, providing evidence of Native Americans' settlement of the area for at least 9,000 years. It means the "grassy place" in the language of the natives.

At least they sent it in a sealed vial. At the time of the eruption, everybody was trying to mail ash to their friends and families elsewhere...In envelopes. The ash was very fine, very abrasive, and somewhat electrically conductive when damp/wet. Not exactly the best thing in the world for automatic mail-sorting equipment when the envelopes leak or burst.

Your family is so much fun to watch and you have such great fans in America, our own citizens are learning their history along with you from so many citizens who have actually experienced events. Knowledge is everything.

I went to grad school at the Univ of Washington in Seattle. When it's not cloudy and you can see Mt Rainier from campus, they say that the mountain is 'out.' We were given face masks and plastic sheeting to put over our computers in case of an eruption. I had a few eruption nightmares while I lived there! I did a tour of Mt St Helens and got a little vial of volcanic ash. If you get as far as Washington State, you should try to get there. Of course there's the volcano, but it's good to see how much tree regrowth there is and how plants and animals are coming back.

Lived for three years in Tacoma, WA (87-90). Never got to see Mt. St. Helens, but could see Rainier every day, and even took a trip there for a picnic. Beautiful state.

There are currently 2 New Zealanders in the Indycar series. Scott Dixon and Scott McLaughlin. Scott Dixon has been in the series for 16 years and is a 6 time series champion. Scott McLaughlin came out of the Australian supercars where he was a 3 times champion.

If you guys ever wish to visit the Appalachian Mountains in the Eastern U.S, y'all HAVE TO do it during the Fall Season 🍂🍁. (Airplane 🛫 would land in Atlanta, Georgia 😊) Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg TN are 2 amazing places to visit during that time. There's a theme park called Dollywood 🙂 (musician Dolly Parton). There are places where the family can go to rock and gem 💎 hunting (Amethyst, Citrine, etc ...) buy a bucket 🪣 of dirt and whatever is in the bucket is yours to keep....so much FUN!!! Driving through the Appalachian Mountains during the Fall Season 🍂🍁 though, will stay with you forever 🙂. I too grew up in Eastern Washington and on the day of the eruption the sun was blocked out arounf noon and did not show itself again until the next day. My town, Moses Lake, about fourty miles north of the tri-cities area we got around nine inches of the ashe which I have been told was the hardest hit area in the world. Quite an amazing thing to live through.

21:49 The Mount St. Helens eruption was crazy in a matter of about 1 second the mountain lost the top 1300 feet, an spat out 540 tons of ash (over the next 8 hours). if you haven't seen them there are so many amazing videos of the eruption, at the time of the eruption it was the most filmed volcanic eruption in history, as geologist knew it was on the verge of blowing. we got lucky and the volcano erupted in a southwards direction killing only 57, if it had erupted northward the pyroclastic flow would have hit the town killing alot more people.

Hey guys, I was born in a small logging town on the Columbia River called Longview. It's about 60 miles from Mt. St. Helens. I used to go sledding on the mountain in the 70s. Been going camping at the mountain my entire life. Still go camping there to this day. I watched St. Helens spewing ash the week it erupted. I was 9 years old.

I was fourteen years old and where I was living I could see Mt. st. Helen from the front porch of my then house. Around my house we had over six inches of ash.

Been watching for over a year and enjoying your family’s escapades. When you get here consider this an invitation for a free golf swing lesson. In ‘07 I left the traffic of Chicago, one of the largest cities in America, and moved to the the largest small town in America, Indianapolis. This month begins my 30th year as a Golf Professional. Teaching anyone how to hit a golf ball straight is rather easy, learning how is also easy, though often tedious requiring diligent practice for about 90 days.

My family flew out to Washington State from Missouri to see my aunt not long after the eruption. I wasn't even 3yrs yet but I remember the flight and thinking it was snowing only to discover the eruption had happened just days before we got there.

Wow.. I LOVE the first package!! I moved to Indiana when I was 9 and lived there 3 years. In that 3 years.. I went to the Indy 500 3 times. The first year I went... I actually went with Actor David Hasselhoff (Star of Knight Rider around that time) He was doing a charity event called (Race For Life) So my family went to that... Met him.. and next thing I know.. he invites us to the Indy 500. So of course...We went.. and had a BLAST!! Such a cool guy! 😊

I’m from northwest Washington, lived here my whole life, and I didn’t know about the volcano ash marbles! That’s so cool! I was 6 when Mt. St Helens erupted. It was the day after my dad's birthday. I'm from Yakima (pronounced yak-i-mah with a short "i"). I have family in Richland. In Washington, the Yakima Valley is known for their amazing fruit and hops for beer, which is shipped all over the world! After the eruption, the area had the most amazing crops grown, which goes to show that God has put volcanoes on this earth to help replenish the soil! I'm so excited that this was in the first package you received from Washington! It's funny that you received the book from France as well, as my family immigrated from France to Quebec, Canada, and then to Washington state, where they became farmers and hop growers! The mountains in Washington are beautiful, and I hope you get to see them someday!

The mountain blew a year before i was born but my parents lived in Yakima when it did. It filled their pool with ash. Day became night and the static electricity created major lightning storms. Dad told me that all of the neighbors gathered together to watch it. The electrical storms were setting off auto garage door openers and they were all taking bets on whose was going off next. Apparently Yakima got hit the hardest and if you did down in soil a couple of inches you will still run into an ash layer some 43 years later

18 worked at IHop in Yakima. Went into the walk in to get supplies. When I came out, it was black. Union Gap/Selah and all the surrounding areas were a mess. My stepdad thought it was a bit funny how we all were trying to shovel it away, as tourist were coming from everywhere to scoop some up. People stared selling their ash soon after. Work for Mel was a mess too. He work at the post office. Said it was pure chaos.

My grandpa worked for the phone company in the greater Seattle area during this time and got called in to work. He left a jar in his yard when he left and he and my grandma had to pull out the shovels when he returned because he lost it in the ash.

I live in Eastern Washington St. If you dig far down in most dirt/soil here, you can still find a layer of ash from St. Helen's eruption.

I remember the Mt. St. Helen's eruption. I lived in Ohio, more than a thousand miles away. The ash cloud drifted that far and gave us some weird colorful sunsets.

I WAS a farmer in Eastern Washington State. That day ruined my life. Huddled in my house with my new bride not knowing how long we would survive. But we did survive. My crop did not. Three (3) inches of ash fell and the last thing on my mind was saving the stuff for the future. It was a terrible day and took months of back breaking labor to get our local infrastucture in working order again. So enjoy your ash from someone that was not really affected by that day. It is not something to be celebrated or cheered on. People lost much more than we did up to and including their Lives! History 101.

I’m from Washington State, The Tri-Cities which is three cities put together(Richland, Pasco and Kennewick) Pasco is my town and it was nice seeing Mount Saint Helens being told. I wasn’t born when it irrupted. My mom was pregnant with me, and hearing this remind me of the stories that she would tell of the morning of the irruption. I hope you enjoy the ash. As a historian it is very rare to have ash from that scary day. I was so surprised. You are an amazing family. Brings me joy watching you. Go Richland!🎉

I'm an Oregon native...born in Klamath Falls, Oregon, and I moved many times before my family settled in East Tennessee. I love my home state, but East Tennessee is home. My husband was on a business trip to Washington years ago and found a small statue of a dog made from the ashes of Mt. St. Helen it’s a gift from him I’ll always treasure.

You really need to do a reaction video on Mt. St. Helens. Its incredible to hear about, just the magnitude of the event and impact of the eruption. There are a lot of good videos on KZread but they’re long (45min+). It would be really cool to see you do a reaction on this video, or another.

I have a recommendation for you guys. A channel called Jet Lag the Game just did a season where they turned the entire country of New Zealand into a board game and they were racing to be the first one's to get from the Northernmost point to the southmost point in New Zealand. It's really cool!

I live in California and Mt. St. Helen irrupted on my 10 th birthday. Ash rained down from the sky for days all the way from Washington to Southern California

Oregonian here. I actually wore earrings made from Mt. St. Helen “emeralds” on my wedding day. So cool that you have a bit of that piece of history. I geek out over stuff like that too. The wands are awesome too. We have a ton of amazing wood carvers up here in the Pacific Northwest. There’s a truly breathtaking beauty to our old growth forests up here. Makes you feel like you’re in a land that belongs to the elves and fairies. If you guys do come up to OR and/or WA on your trip may I suggest you avoid the big cities (Portland and Seattle are in an embarrassing state of crisis right now) and stick to the smaller towns and vast natural areas. In Oregon I suggest Silverfalls State Park (best visited in the spring if you want spectacular waterfalls) and in Washington the Olympic National Forest especially the the Hoa area where there are ferns taller than an adult man! If Wolfhaven is still around, (a wolf sanctuary), it’s a fun less known place where you can camp and can attend howl ins where the humans all start howling in an attempt to get the wolves to start up and then hush so you can hear them. I wish the cities were the way they were before the pandemic because we had a lot of amazing food but seriously all but 2 of my favorite places have closed down and we’re mostly down to chain restaurants and fast food with just a few surviving food trucks. Normally I would suggest Powell’s City of Books and Portland’s Rose Gardens as places to visit but since I don’t feel safe taking my kids there right now I’m not going to suggest that you do. Oh and if you do go to Seattle the troll under the bridge is worth driving by (though again I’m not sure if it’s okay right now or a homeless camp). If you stick to the small towns and national parks though, the Pacific Northwest is extremely beautiful especially in the spring. I’ve traveled a lot around the world and seen some truly spectacular places but there’s just something that soothes the soul about our old temperate rainforests. Might not be as mind boggling as the redwoods (absolutely worth visiting and honestly one of the wonders of the natural world in my book) but just as beautiful. Oh if you go to southern Oregon see if you can book a stay at the Out ‘N About Treehouse resort. It’s not that far from the northern part of the redwoods. The candy corn reaction was so spot on 😂. They taste kinda like old sweet wax. They are so gross. Somehow though because they are an iconic Halloween candy everyone wants to try them 😂 I guess they fall more under the trick category than the treat one. Hazelnuts are delicious. So many yummy things to do with them! Okay, as far as blueberries go, nothing compares with berries of any sort that are grown up here. We have the best berry climate hands down. Blueberries more specifically though are even more spectacular if they are from Corbett OR! The ice storms in the winter result in the best blueberries! I’m particularly partial to the blue crop blueberries that we pick each summer on the Klock’s farm (some of my neighbors when I was a teen) because they have such an amazing flavor and can seriously be as big around as a quarter. Favorite breakfast ever is a bowl full with some half and half or whole milk on them and just eating them like a bowl of cereal. If you look up the Klock’s Blueberry Farm in Corbett OR you can see if they have ripe berries to pick. I’m very curious to see where you end up going. I’m one of those rare people who has actually been to all 50 states (took me over 30 years to do it) so I’m sure you’ll find something interesting in each one you go to. Always fun watching you guys. Was so weird today because I thought I had been subscribed to you guys for a couple years but for some reason I had to resubscribe today.

We live in the shadows of St Helens, I was two when she blew. I remember wearing cloth diapers as masks. So happy Washington is on the map. Renee in Oregon made me cry. Sam, its ducks all the way in our home.

I live in Washington State as well , about 15 or so miles north of Seattle. This May 18th will be the 43rd anniversary of the eruption of Mt. St Helens , maybe you could do a reaction video for it. To see for yourselves what actually happened. I will tell you this much , on that day the largest landslide in recorded history happened. It's a definite MUST SEE.

WASHINGTON!!! 😊 My son and I were at a shop on the Seattle waterfront, today, and I was pointing out the Helenite jewelry in a case. We live north of Seattle and didn't get any ash after the eruption, but the cloud spread so far across the USA that my grandma, in Mobile Alabama, got some ash on her doorstep! 😳 The first time I visited Mt. St. Helens was in 1985, shortly after they opened up the road for tourists. It was an erie moonscape, with all the downed trees fallen in one direction like toothpicks in a box. We visited again in 2015 and everything is green and life has returned to the mountain. Nature is amazing.

As a Hoosier myself it makes me happy to hear you learn and talk about my home state of Indiana, if you do come here you need to go to either the Indy 500 in May or the Brickyard 400 in August and you need to go to the Children's museum and the Indy Zoo and take a trip about 1 hour southeast of Indianapolis to Nashville Indiana it's a small historic town that's full of crafts, shopping, food, bluegrass and country music, events and nature with a large state park! Southern Indiana also has Santa Claus Indiana which Christmas Queen Nadine definitely needs to look into as it's an entire city dedicated to Christmas all year round and has Holiday World theme park.

As an Indiana Hoosier (Who-zur) myself, I'm so happy you were sent stuff for our great state. Sadly, even by some Americans, it can be considered a fly-over state, but it has so many neat things to offer and represents the American midwest very well. If you ever come to Indianapolis, my family and I have season passes to Holiday World, which is a theme park that celebrates 4 major holidays. It's about 3 1/2 hours south of Indy. It's no Disney, but its the cleanest, most family friendly park you would ever visit.

Oregon here, if y'all manage to come over to visit during our summer/your winter, you need to come and see Crater Lake! It's a lake formed inside the caldera of the collapsed volcano, Mt. Mazama, about 7700 years ago! It's also the deepest freshwater lake in the USA!!😊😊😊😊😊

The candy corn and pumpkins do all taste similar. For them to be really good, you need to get them fresh around Halloween. When fresh they are soft and a bit chewy.

I was born in Richland, Washington. I was a kid living in Bellingham, Washington, on the morning of May18, 1980. The eruption blast was so loud that it shook the doors in our house , despite the fact that we were approximately 400 kilometers north of Mt St Helens. As an adult, I visited Mt St Helens. Some of the areas did actually look like a moonscape from Sci-fi movies. Thank you for making a great KZread channel 🤩

Prior to May 18, 1980 Mt St Helens eruption wildlife could sense the inevitable danger and were mass migrating away from the areas surrounding her. I noticed this migration clear down in the Siskiyou Mountains of SW Oregon near Cave Junction. Believe or not, even Sasquatch in the mix. Always pay attention to nature.

SO COOL! I actually have two of those marbles too! My father in law collected marbles and had two in his collection specifically marked. When he passed and we were looking through all the marbles choosing which ones to put into a jar to display we found the Ash marbles. Same color as yours as well. This video has me a little teary watching remembering my FIL and how he used to sit and play marbles with my kids when they were little. I don’t think we will forget when Mt. St. Helens blew. I was working in downtown Seattle. It got very dark and I swear the summers were never the same. It was huge. I wanted to go home because I was scared. Lol l! So cool that you received that. One man did not want to leave his home. He had lived there his whole life and much respect to him. What a great first box from my state! My parents were around 10 years old when mount st Helens erupted and still has a jar of ash. Those marbles are so cool!

Helenite can also be as deep a green as the darkness emerald. I bought myself a pair of earrings that everyone thinks are real emeralds. My husband and I were living in Lynnwood, Washington north of Seattle and had ash falling on our car. I can truthfully say I have lived through the eruption of a volcano and an earthquake. I was attending Jr High school and was outside on the sidewalk before school and "rode" the ring of said sidewalk. That was in the mid 1960s. The teachers were freaking out and all of us kids didn't know that we had had an earthquake until the bell rang to go to class. Unreal to think of not knowing.

My grandmother visited Washington state and brought back some Mount St. Helen’s ash for all her grandkids. I still have it after 40 years.

My oldest son was born the day Mt. St. Helen blew up. A friend gave us a bag full of ash from it.

You should take the stuff you get and start a museum. Let people see up close what you've gotten. It may help you get the funds for your trip. Love your channel.

I loved how the kids were bargaining with one another over the candy, that was funny! I myself have a globe scratch-off map, where all the globe bodies of water are black and all the different countries and states across the globe are a gold colored scratch-off material and then once you scratch off the gold material every different country or state is a different color like red, green, blue, purple, yellow, orange etc. it helps me to keep track of all my world travels, like how I've seen 45/50 U.S. states and Alberta & B.C. Canada out of all of North America so far! I was hoping that my package was going to be the first from Washington State, I sent my package just before last Christmas 2022, so you should be getting to it pretty soon, but mine is from Western Washington just a little North of Vancouver WA, just North of the Columbia River that separates WA & OR! I lived in Kennewick, WA (one of the Tri-Cities along with Richland and Pasco) when Mt. St. Helen's erupted on my 13th birthday! I was very superstitious about turning 13 and having the volcano blow was so incredible...I thought it was my fault! The ash falling ruined my birthday as we had to cancel our boating plans. If you get to come to Washington state you should definitely visit Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainer. They are both awe inspiring! Thanks for sharing your wonderful family!

My great grandparents were two of the 58ish that were killed in that blast. I grew up in the valleys between Mt St Helens and Mt Rainier and moved on to explore other things but it’s cool to see that you’ve received something so close to home. Mt St Helens is home to beautiful hiking, views, caves, and hot springs.

I was 11 when St. Helens erupted. I was living in Oregon about 100 miles south of the mountain. We got just a light dusting of ash, but I remember it well. Aloha from Hawaii.

In 1980 i was transitioning between 7th & 8th grade in NW Iowa. I remember seeing Ash falling from the skies here in Iowa thinking how bad it was on there west coast. Watching St Helens on TV was historic for me. Ive always been fascinated with Volcanoes.

In 1980 I was 10 1/2 yrs old. I was living in Southern California about 1hr south of Los Angeles. When Mt.St.Helens blew we got ash all the way at my house. I remember it falling for days. The sky was cloudy and dark during tnose days. Cant wait to see where your going on your US trip. Keep up the awesome videos.

Actually the month of May is Indy 500 themed in Indianapolis so the box was opened just a few days before we begin Indy 500 festivities including a Memorial weekend parade through the streets of Indianapolis when over 100,000 race fans line the streets. All 33 drivers ride in Indy pace cars to conclude the 2 hour parade.

I live in Ellensburg, Washington , the day that Mount Saint Helens blew my horse had a baby. I’d was waiting so long for that’s that day. she decided to have her baby that day The baby couldn’t breath the ash and she died. I have very sad memories of that day. Also, I was in high school and at that age, we called them ash parties many memories of that day.

If you go coastal in the western United States (Seattle to L.A. or something) the trip would take you past so much out here on the Pacific Coast! Thanks for being so great NZ fam, and hello to everyone in the USA who remain so positive on this channel. I hope we get to welcome you here soon.

I grew up in the Midwest, then spent a few years in the south, and spent the last 10 years in California. I've been on alot of road trips and pacific coast is the way to go!

You can drive the 101 hwy from California up to Washington. One of the most beautiful coastal drives you can take

The PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) is one of the most beautiful and diverse drives anywhere in the world. Oregon and Washington are the most green states. I've ever seen 😂

My father had retired from the Army not long before the eruption and we drove from CA to TN just after the eruption. On the radio I remember hearing updates on the spread of the ash and as a kid wondered if it was going to follow us all the way to TN :)

I lived on Mt Hebo,Oregon, when Mt. Saint Helen's blew. I remember it took us months to get all the ash off our trees, shrubs, and flower beds. 💐 I would love to see New Zealand sometime. I currently live in Ashland, Wisconsin ( deep winter for 6 months of the year 😆.) I love your videos. It is inspiring to see that not everyone hates the US.

Washington!! I was just having breakfast and turned the television on and the news just announced that the mountain erupted. I ran outside to witnessed the eruption!! Craziest thing I’ve ever seen!!😱

Our very dear friends who moved to Washington in 1979 (2 brothers and their families) one family moved to the eastern side of Mt. St. Helens, the other family moved to the western side of Mt/ St. Helens. The first eruption shot most of the ash towards the east,,, so the one brother and his family gathered up what they could and went to the other side of the volcano to be with his brother and family. Then the volcano blew again shooting off more ash, but the wind was moving to the west. Both families ended up coming home to New York until they were able to move out of New York again. Chuck and Dolly and their kids moved back to Washington 2 years later. Dan and Lucy and their kids moved south to Tennessee a year later. By the way, Dan filled buckets with ash and when he came to New York he sold little jars of ash for 5 dollars each. He made some good money lol. Unfortunately both families lost all their fabric products, furniture's, small appliances like their toaster, coffee maker, all their foods, They came home (New York) with very little. But thank God they all came back alive.

As a fellow Hoosier and a HUGE Indy 500 fan, I was very excited to see your reactions from our state. Scott Dixon is definately one of the best in Indycar history. Another fact that would probably be surprising to you about Indiana is we have the largest following of our High School Boy's Basketball. There are many high school gyms that hold over 4000-9000 fans. I will sometimes travel over 2 hours to watch 2 small schools (class A - smallest) play. The excitement live rivals that of any pro sport.

I live in Washington- about 45 miles (72 km) from Mt Rainier. One thing you hear around here that you don’t in other places is, “the mountain is out today.” I hope your future journeys bring you out this way.

I was at Mt. St. Helens the day before it erupted. We noticed we didn't see any animals or heard any birds. It was very quiet. The next morning when it erupted I was at Mt. Rainier.

So cool! Love that Richland, Washington was represented by Don! I wasn't nearby when Mt. St. Helen's erupted, but have heard first hand accounts from friends and family and seen the newspaper articles. My MIL was in Spokane at the time. No airplanes could fly. The ash would get in and break the motors if they had tried. It took a while to clean it up and get functional again. It is crazing how far reaching and how devastating it is. That is so cool he sent you some ash. 😊

the last segment about Mt St Helens reminded me of two things: first, I'm from central (upstate) New York (Hi~) and the ash was left on our cars and windows all the way across the country (just a thin dusting but none the less real show of impact); and second, when my bride and I took a cruise out of Auckland for our 40th anniversary the first thing we found out as we travelled past Whakaari Island is what happened the day before... Still great memories of our visits to so many parts of NZ. we so want to return to NZ!!
