  • @tomthefunky

(cont'd from below) Theater orchestras needed service and retail shops as well. During the jazz age in the twenties, the trumpet was the coolest instrument to play. So naturally the shops would cater to the tastes of the public. All those shops were originally brass and woodwind shops. When rock and roll hit, everything changed. Guitars became the big sellers. If you're ever on the corner, just think that those stores witnessed the entire evolution of twentieth century American music.

I hang out at these shops all the time. Over the years I met Stevie Wonder, Dave Matthews and Rick Nielson from Cheap Trick. The reason why those instrument shops are clustered together on that little part of 48th street is because they serviced the entire music business for almost a century. Radio and T.V literally began right down the block at Rockefeller Center. Those orchestra musicians needed repair and retail shops in the neighborhood. You are also in the theater district. @xmacvicar The dude has his own style and I like that. Sometimes I wish there was no ego driven gun slinger mentality among many guitarists...but then again it can distinguish where someone is at in their musical tastes/(spiritual journey?). But I 'spose if he played keyboard no gun slinger would give a shit.

I love early U2, they were brilliant back then. Anything after the Joshua Tree era left me stone cold. In my opinion that was when U2 went corporate and into making as much money as they could. Greedy is the word. I know its a double edged sword, but U2 have just churned out shit to make as much money as possible since that time.

Maybe you still have to listen to their last album... If you stop creating, if you stop innovating, your band will start copyin' itself as Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, Bon Jovy...etc.etc.etc. U2 are the only one example of innovation today.Without them, you wouldn't know killers, coldplay,FFerdinand and so on...
