    John, the one thing you never seem to mention, and would have a critical effect on ICU admissions is the lack of early treatment in the States. If they gave them early treatment they would not for the most part reach the ICU, even with many of those co-morbidities.

    And hospitals are definitely not businesses and would NEVER admit patients to an ICU to receive government subsidies. Re: early treatment, the most urgent practical step is not to become a bloated, piggy-fat drain on society in the first place. The obesity rate is over 40%, and over 70% are overweight. Slovenly, fat slobs do not deserve treatment and should consider themselves fortunate if they get it.

    I live in Western Australia, where vaccination started later than the US and Eastern Australia. I’ve never seen so many people sick at the same time - besides Covid, people here are having all sorts of health issues. No wonder, there is a 99% vaccination rate, and 86% with third dose. I’ve had 3 meetings cancelled this week due to people having health problems (not Covid). One of the people has asked to reschedule for the 3rd week as she has not improved , despite thinking she would. Another one was a Medical Director of a clinic who had to cancel due to one of her staff having a sudden illness (heart, I think). And I still cannot believe that people can’t see what is actually happening. My 21yr old niece hasn’t had her period since taking the second dose, in November last year. And no doctor has asked her about the vaccine or made a connection with it. It’s all a big “coincidence”! So sad!

Bear in mind we’ve had virtually no restrictions across all of Southern Africa in general and travel has been open despite the winter conditions. In our region on average it’s way less than 20% vaccinated across SADC. We still have across most of the bloc a mask requirement but not adhered to. We’re getting more normal flu cases interestingly. I have two things to add about hospitalizations in US: one hospitals still get money for every COVID patient admitted and even more for intubated COVID patient. Then factor in that people without insurance go to the ER for any kind of treatment. That's why we always have overcrowded hospitals. We don't really have free clinics or urgent cares facilities and if you do think you have COVID and go to an urgent care, they check you at the front door and send you to a certain hospital for treatment. But other than a lot of fat unhealthy people that's another reason that isn't really broadcasted much.

  • @drdolittle1085

    @drdolittle1085

    Well, does this mean people without insurance are going to get tested in hospital number one and have to go to hospital number two for treatment, i.e. at least TWO hospitals will register ONE patient as being testet and moreover, as being "positive" if the test in hospital number one resulted in being positive? Thus, ONE patient enriches the statistics as TWO cases, right? What a hell of messed up data!

    @@masksarelies391 I have health insurance and I'm unjabbed. What is not really known is why medical facilities like the one I worked for with a hospital that took in COVID patients were not approved to administer COVID vaccinations, but the city community center would have free vaccination drive thrus and grocery store pharmacies along with pharmacies would be approved. Yet, if someone with insurance wanted to have it administered by their health professional within their network, my facility didn't have COVID vaccination approval. As a former Biology student (left during pandemic because I disagreed w/ unethical shit), I collected consent forms from different places and looked up pdf consent forms from different pharmacies and grocery stores nationally here in America. None of them were consistent and if the CDC really wanted to collect real data, they would have had a standardized form everyone used. That's probably why a lot of data isn't useful or skewed.

    Hello from Western Canada (BC). I am a long time fan of your channel and sooo much appreciate all the information you give everyday (I rarely miss an episode :) I just want to comment that here in BC we rarely have reliable "reported" cases anymore...we all have home rapid tests and are "supposed" to "do the right thing" when we have symptoms and/or test positive (stay home etc.) For those that know.... we can call the 811 number to speak to a nurse who advises us via a scale of answers to a questionnaire, but they do not provide any professional medical advise. No actual lab tests, and little or no interactions with doctors unless you are so sick that you have to go to the hospital. Very sad situation here...no one knows what is "sick enough to go to hospital", what is "sick enough to isolate" so everyone mostly just carries on as if they are fine (no mask, no isolation, no consideration). The best stats I look at for our area is "hospitalizations" and "deaths" and those are even questionable here...We have a hard time making safe decisions for our family of seniors in this confusing time. Take care Dr. John.

    I feel quite differently than you. I believe BC has done a great job. The biggest problem is when folks ignore the science. Let's face it we are meant to be adults .. we should not have to be led by the hand. People don't want that. Different areas do different things. I still see a lot of masks where they are needed.. busy stores, medical buildings, buses etc. Alberta on the other hand minimal usage of masks. We just need to continue doing what is best for us.. be smart.. can't put the owness on the health ministry.. they did their best in a most unusual circumstance, with the minority complaining all the way. Personally I believe I had Covid 2x..to top off the 2nd round .. due to lowered immunity I ended up with shingles in my head and eye. 100x worse than any Covid symptoms. Triple vaxed Thank You Dr. John.. you are the best!!!

    Wrong. Look at the graph he used to show protective effect. It goes way back, instead of showing what happened after omicron,where the boostered are twice as likely to be a case as fully vaccinated or not fully vaccinated. That "not fully vaccinated" group was created when the unvaccinated were shown to be much less likely to be a case and so governments quickly tried to hide that by destroying the grouping "unvaccinated", and dumping in all failures when the people got infected within 2 weeks of vaccinations, even if 2nd vaccination. Still, even that group is half as likely to be a case than the boostered. So is fully vaccinated. They are like twin groups now that they dump in failed to protect group with the unvaccinated.

Finally! And the only reason I took a test is that my wife is traveling abroad and she cannot be positive upon arrival. So my son has the sniffles and there was a positive case in his classroom - so I tested the whole family. Boom, I was the only one positive. Luckily we have a Mother-In-Law apartment so I could isolate. I am fine. Feels more like a spring allergy than a cold - just a tiny bit of phlegm and snot. No fever and no sneezing. BUT my daughter unexpectedly tests positive a few days later. She has zero symptoms - not even a single sniffle. So now we are both in the apartment : ) Now my son is off to be tested again as there was another positive case in his classroom. My guess is he had it first and had already recovered by the time I tested everyone. Hopefully my wife doesn't get it as she is a week away from departure.

    Hello Dr. John. Love your videos. You have literally been a voice of reason and sanity in a time where we need it most. Question. I live in Massachusetts (USA). This state tracks waste water to track covid traces. It seems - to me - to be the most accurate predictor - especially now since people are doing home tests and not all positive cases are being reported to the CDC - of prevalence in our area. They used to say that cases are a predictor or hospitalization, which are a precursor of deaths. However the WW parts per million seems to be a predictor of cases. What credence do you give this data?

  • @annabelleb2822

    @annabelleb2822

    How they manage to effectively test such a huge volume of wastewater is beyond me. You could pick up anything in there, and since OCR only pickup fragments (not whole, live virus) then the "detection" of these fragments means very little indeed, and I certainly wouldn't be panicking about it. Especially sincewastewater can be gathered from dozens of suburbs and collated into one treatment plant. It's meaningless, essentially, and just costs taxpayer money which would be better spent on early treatment .

  • @xavariusquest4603

    @xavariusquest4603

    Your comment is valid. Testing of waste water is undertaken regularly to manage not the delivery of specific services but to understand community infection rates (along the continuum from asymptomatic to severe) for the purpose of overall plan management. People who are asymptomatic don't know to get tested and those with mild to moderate symptoms will treat at home. They are not required in the overall services plan but are an indicator for the growth rate of infection and the potential development of herd immunity...noted by the presence of metabolites vs individual testing results. As a final point, data like this is why so many communities finally returned to normal activities even though infections had not dropped to zero. MIT and Harvard have been involved in this testing as a joint project since March 2020...just a few months after the first case was identified in Boston. The protocols they follow were established decades ago and have been continually refined. Monitoring of both fresh and waste water is a protocol followed by Homeland Security during times of potential attack. The reason that waste water is monitored is because the metabolic products of an illness can sometimes be more easily detected than the thing that caused the illness. The other commentor made one point...waste water is about communities. Deer Island waste water processing does not have 10,000 pipes that bring waste water from every neighborhood in Eastern Massachusetts. The water water system has small pipes that join to bigger pipes that connect to really big via ducts that transport waste water to Deer Island. The junctions were pipes transition from one size to another are nodes with streetlevel access points. These nodes repeat themselves as pipes become larger. The larger the node the larger the size of the population being referenced. But, because each node has all its incoming pipes mapped, you absolutely know the scope of the community...the towns, the neighborhoods, the streets, and the addresses of included homes...included in a study of the body output products of interest. Therefore, you can track the changes within a community, the changes between communities, and ultimately the changes in a region. Compare this to regular testing of all 4,000,000 people in Eastern Massachusetts. Testing waste water is far more cost effective, far more doable, just as reliable, and provides the large scale testing data set to provide perspective regarding changes individual test results. Consider that the vast majority of citizens did not take a test. Waste water testing captures an image of everyone regardless of whether they took an individual test on not. That's its' purpose. All of this can easily be verified with a little effort.

The reason for the covid relief for hospitals was because they were losing too much money to operate. What is going on today is nothing new. I still have relatives living in Shanghai who are over 80. There are a few reasons that older people have lower vaccine rates. The first one is in China and most of Asia, they start to vaccinate 18 to 60 years old first, not like here from oldest to youngest. It gave the impression vaccine is more dangerous for older people. For almost the last two years there has been almost no covid in China. Older people don't feel a need or feel litter unsafe taking the vaccine. This is also the case in Hongkong and Singapore when Pfizer is available. For working-age or school-age people, your company could say, if you are not vaccinated, you can't come to the office. The older people are usually already retired, and there is no way to enforce the vaccine. I hope this time the willingness to take the vaccine is higher.

Your interpretations seem quite reasonable, while I would add that current lower USA mortality might also be attributed to a better understanding of the virus dynamics after 2+ years "we know more now than we ever did", that have facilitated healthier life-styles, with modifications and behavioral changes which strengthen the immunity of ourselves and families, improve personal health status, like getting proper sleep, appropriate exercise, better stress management, weight loss when indicated, use of the appropriate nutraceuticals and foods you and others have mentioned, greater natural sunlight exposure, wider use of virucidal nasal and throat sprays, etc. I personally do things now, that I never did before the pandemic got here.

    Thanks for the video and analysis. I would suggest an assessment of vaccine efficacy should consider the ratio of reduced diagnosis and death, not the total frequency of reduction. It would appear right now the frequency of death in not fully vaccinated people is barely above that in fully vaccinated people, but both frequencies are so small so that visualization of frequency is not very helpful -- this does not mean you are not correct, but that a curve of reduction ratio is visually more useful, if you have the raw data to obtain it.

    Daily hospital stats for Ontario currently reveal that the vast majority of hospitalizations are for those that have had 3 or 4 doses of the vaccination. They oddly clump together the unvaccinated and partially vaccinated ( one can deduce this means people who have had one or zero vaccinations) and this group makes up the least amount of the hospitalizations ( those with 2 doses have higher hospitalizations than the unvaccinated and partially jabbed). So as some medical professionals have indicated, more is not better when it comes to how many jabs. As you are attempting to do.., it’s time to update our files !

    @@prndownload far more people have had 2 doses than 3 or 4 doses but it is the 3 or 4 dose group that are the most hospitalized. The unvaxxed group should not be lumped in to the partially vaxxed group. There is a difference between someone who has received a vax vs no vax at all. They are entirely different things and that is pure “fudging” of the data. But even if you argued the hospitalizations reflect the proportions of the population receiving/not receiving the vax it still shows that there is basically no difference in hospitalization ratios between the vaxxed vs unvaxxed - meaning the vax is having no significant affect on reducing hospitalizations (at best). And since we also know the vax has had virtually no effect on stopping transmission - exactly how effective and of what use have the vaccines been?

    Fun facts: 1. Shanghai's cases keep falling. 2. 86% (81% percent were given 3 doses) of people over 60 in China were vaccinated until May 5th. So it's not that low. 3. China's vaccination strategy prioritizes protecting people at high risk of infection (e.g., logistics workers). 4. Western countries prioritize the protection of the elderly because massive infection puts the elders in DANGER. 5. The idea that older Chinese people distrust the state more would be considered laughable in China.

    I've lost respect for Dr. John Campbell when he started denigrating China's Zero Covid policy and describing China's lockdowns as draconian. China's Zero Covid policy has greatly decreased the covid case numbers while other major cities like London, Berlin, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Tokyo (all cities much smaller than Shanghai) continue to have rising daily covid cases in the hundreds and into the thousands! Where does Dr. Campbell get the gall to criticize China's Zero Covid policy when China's case numbers are much, much less than other countries? It puzzles me and thus I've lost respect for his analysis. By the way, take notice he doesn't specifically cite China's case numbers or show graphs of China's low cases, but he instead provides declining graphs of New York, UK, etc. I think Dr. Campbell purposely conceals China's numbers because they would undermine his narrative of "China is bad." I dunno.
