I’m seriously impressed with YJ. Their budget Yu-line has got me into big cubes, and now I’m upgraded to their MGC big cubes. I dare say they’ve come very close to monopolizing the big cube market

Heavily disagree. X man and Moyu big cubes are still very competitive and top solvers like Kevin, Ciaran, Max and Tymon are still using them as their mains. I agree with their line being the best for their respective prices, but there are still other great options out there for big cubes and you shouldn’t discredit them just because you have not tried them yet. Simply stated I don’t think they or any cube brand can truly monopolizing the big cube market since people have different preferences on how their cube should feel.

To me, and maybe I’m off base with this, it seems like a wide majority of cubers, including myself, tend to take big cubes, particularly 6x6 and 7x7 causally, where they’ll compete in it where offered, but they (and for sure I) rarely seriously practice it. With YJ appealing more towards these people with the lower price range, which always seems to be a casual buyer magnet, it seems at least to me that recently YJ has been dominating the more casual market, which, and please correct me if I’m wrong, seems to be larger than the more competitive market

Sula Mareska I think it just depends on what events you prioritize on. Since you don’t really prioritize big cubes, it makes sense to get these cubes over more expensive puzzles. The thing is not everyone does that, and some put their priority on big cubes over other events. As for me I’m an all rounder, so there are times when I prioritize on big cubes too. The thing is though there will be a point in which people will be fast enough to have preferences in their big cubes. These are the times where choosing between flagships are very important. At least in my opinion to truly monopolize a market, alongside the affordable price a cube should be objectively the best on the market, for example Dayan with their 3x3s back then. For now though, I agree most people would go for the mgc line, but there is still a market for other branded big cubes as they are just as good, or better for some people. Simply stated I agree that the mgc line may be able monopolize the casual market if there is no competitor in the near future, but I don’t think that it will monopolize the competitive market as there are other options that may suit other people.

One thing I could see that may kill the definite dominance, not outright monopoly as you’ve shown me, of the MGC (particularly the 6x6) is the release of the next MoYu cube, if I were to take a total shot in the dark, I would guess and say within the year. Looking at the MGC 5x5 and Aochuang WRM, I’ve heard the performance of the two are very similar. I would guess the same could be true of a hypothetical MoYu 6x6 and MGC, where top solvers and budding big cube solvers switch to the MoYu, likely because of a smaller size which I know many are in favor of, as well as likely better performance.

Sula Mareska I agree, at least for me the aochuang wrm is a direct upgrade to the mgc. Despite this, I prefer Qiyi big cubes over moyu/yj big cubes, so I main the Valk 5/aochuang wrm sometimes, shadow and spark. I believe Qiyi could make a massive comeback if they tried, as it is hard to imagine a cube over 2 years old like the shadow is still a top big cube contender even now.

Lol he literally called it amazing just because its super fast and smooth. Not saying its a bad cube, but from the other mgc big cubes I can assume other flagship 7x7s are just as good and are competitive with this one.

Jawad No, its all about preference. Every cuber has their own preference on how their cubes should feel. No specific traits of a cube is objectively better than other traits. Thats why I disagree when he said that the mgc is the best just because its fast and smooth. Other people might prefer different feels.

michkanm We are not talking about it being the best for its price, but it being the best performing for people in general. For big cubes I feel that these preferences can affect your times alot. If you are serious and competitive on a certain event you will try to find a cube that suits your preferences no matter what since it makes alot of difference in your times.

Even Tymon stated in cubing at home 1.4 in front of over 500 people watching that the mgc big cubes pops way to much and Ciaran along with Phil seemed to agree with his statement. I agree with it being the best for its price, but there are still other great options out there for big cubes an you shouldn’t discredit them just because you prefer the mgc line over other big cube lineups.

From lots of testing I can say that Qiyi big cubes don’t react well to regular silicone. Set your spark with angstrom lubes + dnm, it will speed up your spark by ALOT. My Shadow is almost as fast as my mgc 6x6 just by using that.

CUBR I don’t know, as far as I know most(if not all) of scs lubes are regular silicone based, which does not work well with the spark. My guess for the reason to why angstorm setup works so well is because dignitas is hydrophobic and it repels the water based dnm, which speeds up your cube a ton and gets rid of the problem of qiyi big cubes being slow with regular silicone.

CUBR I don’t know if it’ll work. I tried using traxxas 10k and dnm which is an insanely light setup and the cube still couldn’t speed up.
