@@fwabble The XSX hasn't been tapped at all. I wonder if MS is holding back on the internal upgrades after Sony announces the Pro. They should toss in a faster SSD for load times only. Expect faster wifi, better heatsink and other minor improvements. It seems the Pro is not that much more powerful than the X after looking at the leaked specs. It's actually 16TF splitted up. 13-14TF for shading(45% PS5 uplift) and 3TF for ML. Faster ram but same amount as the X. Basically identical CPU's. It does seem the showcase was finally showing what the X was meant to do.

Imo these options are pointless. A “digital series X” is barely cheaper, and $600 for a 2tb series x is kinda crazy. Won’t the PS5 pro be around $600? So what’s the point?

Because of the cost of the ps5 pro chip, faster ram and increased cooling, to keep costs down it'll probably be equipped with a 1tb ssd. So at least the xsx 2tb model has that...!

Simple cost cutting tactic. With SSD NAND chips at low prices, taking out the disc drive while keeping the chassis and internal components basically the same would save tons and have gamers locked into digital licenses and game pass. Microsoft wanted to do this with Xbox One originally before they had to backpedal on that.

That would make sense if they were actually selling consoles at a higher rate. That is not the case. Sales are dropping every year, while Sony is gaining sales. MS only has a 33% market share. These additions will not increase sales as the pricing is too high. So now they have to produce more models and hope that people will buy them. If people don't, then they are losing money.

@@colaboytje My opinion on that is Microsoft is not concerned about hardware sales anymore. What they care about is getting their games to as many customers as possible, regardless of the platform and gain Game Pass subscribers. Sony is aiming for the same. Console hardware has never been profitable anyone other than Nintendo as Nintendo has lower hardware cost per unit than the other two and has strong first-party titles and IP to back it up. I'm predicting that Sony and Microsoft will start leveraging its Plus and Game Pass subscription as a means to get any games published on their platform to be playable on day one of release and make non-subscribers wait to play. Once consoles go all-digital, gamers won't be left with a choice of any alternatives; Sony/Microsoft can make people subscribe and then force gamers to "buy" the game by removing the said game from their subscription plan and require a 'purchase' of the digital license to keep playing the game until they revoke the license since people won't 'own' their games anymore.

Not one of my friends buy physical games anymore. Most buy games in cheaper regions, activate using VPN and play normally in their own region. Elden ring for example was 16 bucks when launched this way. Much cheaper than physical, even when you can sell it for a good price.

This is highly dependent on location. In the US, it is usually cheaper at launch to go digital simply by pretending to be in Oregon to avoid sales tax, which you'd have to pay on physical copies.

You're not wrong, the "official" retail price will be the same, but many shops/sites will still sell the physical copy for cheaper prices, at least compared to buying directly from Microsoft or Sony's stores anyway. That doesn't even take into account used copies. I couldn't begin to list the number of digital games that still go for stupid prices but can be picked up for little to nothing on the used market.

It blows my mind on why a digital version of a 4 yo console doesn't have 2TB, you know, to be real competition to their rival ps5, is a 1 tb of memory so expensive to add to the board?

Now just make a Xbox Series S with a disc drive.

Xbox should finally update their controller to include gyro aiming. Xbox is such a big first person shooter machine at this point. Playing Doom, Halo and CoD with proper gyro aim on a console? Yes please! I'd actually use my xbox again if they added that.

@@khalidhashmi9772 Gyro controls are the closest way to get the precision of mouse aiming on a controller. It's how I play every shooter on my PC now since it allows me to play with a comfortable controller in hand while also being able to play without the built-in cheats (aim assist).

1 tb storage for xbox in Canada is 230 plus tax so don't see an issue with price

Series S should be $199. THe new X with 2tb should be $399. Pick up the pace. There's hardly a reason to buy and xbox anyway if you have a switch, ps5 n PC. But I'd seriously consider a $199 series S just to have one.

@@sumomaster5585 I got it to catch up on ps3 and ps4 titles, I skipped those after the incredible ps2. Went to the 360 then to PC. PS5 is a great place to play older sony only titles. In fact its a real PS4 pro. Current gen is a wash for the xbox and PS. We will get good games in the last throws of these boxes.

I think Gamepass is just like most subscription services getting us more and more comfortable with owning nothing. I’d rather have the license on the disc than connected to an account for my favorite games. Same goes for movies. If we go into an all subscription or digital only future I’m content with what I own.

It's not a lot more powerful. CPU is basically the same as the X but they did make the ram faster. It's really a 16TF console. 13-14TF for shading(45% PS5 uplift) and 3TF for ML. The good news is it could bring out the best in the XSX that has been held back all gen. These Xbox consoles were dummy units. Maybe they upgraded the internals to be announced when Sony announces the PRO. I think there is more to this $600 Special Edition outside of just storage. They could always toss in a faster 7000 mb/s SSD inside. It would only be used for load times only, but could entice some to upgrade. Who knows

This is for me .. I’ve sold my xsx.. got xss till xsx all digital will release because most of my Xbox games are digital.. I’m tired of swapping discs.. but I love physical games- still collecting for ps3, ps4, ps5, ps vita & switch.. 1/3 on those platforms I have digital games So just Xbox & Steam deck all digital for me

You answered your own question. Removing the disk drive also removes the ability for consumers to buy games cheaper at retail stores, now you're forced to pay Microsoft full price. Last gen they tried to stop gamers from lending games to friends or buying games 2nd hand, if they'd gotten away with it and Xbox One had sold well then there would be no disk based Xbox consoles this generation.

This is a missed opportunity. Xbox should've done more other than offering more storage. What they could've done is updated the form factor to have an optional disc drive the PS5 Slim instead of adding 3 more Xbox Series SKUs. At the very least, I wouldn't be surprised if this is a small APU and/or an updated disc drive.

This xbox console will sell like hot cakes.

I will tell you right now that the "regular model" will be extremely hard to be found,not many will be made....and will stealthily be phased for sure.

This isn't "New" hardware in the way it matters. What people are wondering is if XBox has a next generation of hardware in the works. What is a half generation "pro" model isn't "new" hardware in the way it matters.

We wanted an Xbox pro for quality and performance. We got Xbox w storage and all digital so we always pay $69.99 what a bargain

With gamepass existing on PC and all Xbox games being on PC, I struggle to justify buying an Xbox. Considered picking one up only for backwards compatibility with many Xbox 360 discs so I might get one before there are no more Disc Xbox consoles. Might get a used one x on ebay.

The only reason I'd be interested in getting a series X is because some games still run better on console than PC, because the developer will probably never truly optimize the game on PC (Jedi Survivor).

How is that a good example of "optimization"? Pick another game, that one is messed up on all platforms.

Still have not upgraded my VCR xbox one. If they have Series X's with disc drive for 350 bucks this holiday I think I'm going to finally buy one.

This is exactly like the one at all digital where everyone couldn't understand why they would pay more for a console without discs.

New digital series x at 449 gives me hope that the next console generation will get 20 or more ram for 500.

You know it's bad when hard-core xbox fans see no point in these "Upgrades".

Not even Xbox has called this an "upgrade". Neither has any of the hosts in this video. It's not an upgrade, it's an option. Don't be confused. These are not meant for Xbox owners who already have an Xbox series s or x.

Glad to see the Xbin thrown out. Still not buying any discless system w/purely DRM-based distribution, though.

I think Sony has the better option. You can buy the digital version to save money then buy the disk drive later if you need that.

All people want if you want big sales is a slim from all parties with a disc drive considerably cheaper. Both PS and MS showed hands and it is not happening. Sales quantity wont be anywhere near Switch or PS2 cause pricing out mass consumers.

I think the consoles are fine, they're just offering options but don't particularly care if you buy one. They really have put a lot of effort into PC Game Pass. It started with 100 or so games, it's now up over 450 which is wild! The biggest problem with MS is they always have and seemingly always will do a terrible job at communicating features.

If they remove the disc altogether then there’s not point of having an Xbox in future. PC can do everything that Xbox can do. Same titles, upgradable spec, multi functionality at a just slightly higher cost.

Kudos to Xbox for not continuing the awful trend of pro models. Series S though was a mistake imo.

The new refreshed XBOX Consoles are more expensive. The 2020 Series S was around $300.00 now $350.00 due to the added storage might as well wait until next gen save money hope the next one has games the prices are insane

I’m not buying anything from xbox especially digital games from its online store when it’s likely they are going to pull out of the console market and eventually shut down their servers. Then all the games I bought will be gone

I was more excited by the leaked docs. It appeared they were going to give you 2TB all digital for $500. That was more appealing to me. The real story is that if you want to go physical on Xbox you now have to spend $600. Also it would have been nice if Xbox copied the PlayStation route and offered the ability to buy the disc drive separately also.

It was on sale for $399 very recently in the U.S. also, in Europe where Xbox sells even worse I get their sales are even more extreme.

I happened to skip the Xbox showcase just because I was working. I follow game news pretty closely but had to look for a bit after I got home from work to discover that there was new Xbox hardware. No buzz

What has Xbox done to warrant these ridiculous prices?

I have the Xbox series S and PlayStation five digital slim free spider man 2 for sale at $400 at Best Buy couple of months ago and still got Nintendo Switch lite

I have Xbox OG, 360 & Co games on disk.., an all digital Xbox console is out of the question for me!

All the consoles are overpriced. That's the problem. PS5 is 550 euros in Europe more than it was at launch and Series X is the same 550. That's the problem with this generation really and why a massive number of people are just hanging on to their PS4s and Xbox ones. We're in 2024 4 years after launch nearly and the consoles still cost more than they did when they launched and people who like to buy games go with the more powerful and/or physical console. The best and probably one of the only single player fpses that came out this year is System Shock and it's on last gen. I got a PS5 before the price increase but the exclusives have been few and far between and most of the stuff that appeals to me is also on PS4 so I paid 500 mostly just for Demons Souls and faster load times and framerates. Sonys last State of Play was bad so yep I'm not sure it was really worth shelling out the 500 even but 550 for these consoles in 2024 is ridiculous. That 2tb one will be 650 or 700 in the EU because we always get ripped off to the max.

Aside from the costs of the consoles, having them still doing cross gen games, there's not really a reason to embrace this generation, because there hasn't been that many exclusives for the newer consoles. Having backwards compatible/cross gen games is a blessing and a curse,playing your older titles is great but we're not seeing too many exclusive to this generation titles.

​@@iPh1l1ppYeah I own both in the UK but if I'm being completely honest, there wasn't a real need to, this generation so far, I feel the biggest notable thing are loading times, particularly the PS5 which is really quick in comparison to last gen consoles.

The names and then different processing power and storage are confusing to the casual console crowd. Consoles are a shrinking market and they need to get marketing clear for the main audience imo. I know several people who have played on consoles and say “I’ll just get a pc” instead of buying this generation.

They should have just gotten Seagate/WD to lower the price of the external SSD and released a few more options for those console wraps like the one the brought out for Starfield.

Both 2TB Series X and 1TB Series S are at least $50 too expensive. I say at least because 512GB of the slow SSD (compared to Gen4 NVMe units) used on Xbox Series definitely doesn't cost $50 for Microsoft. These prices don't make any sense when your consoles is lagging in sales. Either Xbox execs are that stupid or they're playing some 4D chess that we're not aware of.

It's impossible for the Xbox team to go one month without making a braindead and tone deaf move. You're already taking losses out of each console sold, so just cut prices for existing versions already.

I guess the point is that you go into store and if there are no sales on existing SS/SX, these MRSP make more sense. However i feel like 1tb SS should be 299 and SX white should 399. So 50 off for both. Gut feeling tells me they are going to quetly discontinue OG SX with drive and OG SS 512gb. They clearly want to push digital and these new (most likely cheaper for Microsoft to produce) revisions. Notice that 2tb with disk is limited edition aka u wont be able to just buy it in store. I disagree with DF team, I feel like COD on game pass and plethora of announced game to GP will move the needle. The question is if it will be enough for Microsoft. I do hope they put COD and Indiana somewhere on Xboxes boxes as its huge selling point. Ideally to have bundles with those games or at least 3 month GP sub in each box

These were dummy units that were showed. I think MS is waiting to discuss the internals of the Special Edition when Sony announces the Pro. I think we could see some upgrades. Better heatsink, faster wifi, and maybe they upgraded the SSD for faster load times only. I could see MS tossing in a 7000 mb/s SSD. It would be a nice feature for just load times. I don't think they would call it a "Special Edition" unless they did something more than just 2tb of storage you would think. After seeing the rumored specs of the PS5 Pro it seems that the XSX will hold up just fine. The PS5 Pro is really 16TF but splitted up. 13-14TF for shading(45% PS5 uplift) and 3TF for ML. I think Sony will sell a 1tb PS5 Pro for $600. The CPU is basically the same as the XSX. The16gb of GDDR6 is upgraded. It's obvious that after the Showcase that the XSX is finally being utilized. I think we could really see some incredible graphics if the focus was the Pro and X.

To be honest, these "new" models works with the rumors for an actual new console coming out in 2026. Why would Microsoft spend money on redesigning the Series models when a newer model is on its way

Microsoft will never learn. They had a good showing of games finally and then they unveil this 💩. If it was an upgrade it would be cool but it’s the same damage system in with a paint job minus disc drive plus a bigger hard drive.

I've owned every Xbox generation since original. I haven't gotten this gen. When I saw this thumbnail I thought oh cool maybe I'll get one, expecting cheaper price with better refresh update. Looks like I won't get one.

Don't forget the lime green on the Xbox Series X Galaxy, it looks terrible.

they basically created a problem (proprietary expensive storage options) and now selling cheaper (still expensive) solution in form of 2TB Series X. 1TB SSDs for PS5 starting around 80€. 449+80=529€ for 2TB digital only PS5. This reveal is honestly another self-inflicted wound by MS

No need at all for an Xbox console - which is why they're not even trying anymore. Xbox is PC now - which is upgradeable, does way more stuff, plays way more games and is just a better choice. Perhaps they're banking on this upcoming handheld.. but they sure don't care about their consoles anymore. That's loud and clear.
