In response to Kamo Chameleon's Theory on "What The Devs Are Doing", I give my counter-theory as to what the NW devs are doing and where they want to go with the future of New World.

    I gave up on New Wolrd about 7 months ago. AGS went from a "love brand" to a "hate brand". Personally, I don't hate them, I just gave up and don't expect anything. I honestly think most of the toxicity, they did it to themselves. If you lie to people and you can't communicate with community, expect backlash.

    I can give an insight. A lesson to all game devs. First impression matters. When AGS marketed new world releasing in sep 2021 is all a mistake. It's not finished. They shouldn't charge full price or at the very least release as an early access. Amazon put $300 million on this game and they want to cash out fast. I can speak for dozens of paragraphs about new world but in the end I still love the game. Now the damage has been done. New world has so many chances to bring back their players and now it's running out. Sad

    I know what they are doing. They're doing what the Bless/Bless Unleased team did. They've abandoned PC players, re-packaged the game as an online CO_OP or solo experience ARPG, and are hyping up console players who do not have access to New World while distancing themselves from the image of the dead PC game. Forcing PC players who aren't buying Angry Earth to buy it just to play is another middle finger they gave to PC since they already have their money for the first game, and most of us haven't bought the expansion anyways. By forcing us to purchase they don't loose anything, but can gain a few extra sales and maybe suck us into this new "edition" that they've centered mainly around the expansion. What they've essentially done is reduced the PC player base to nothing more than beta testers for console - who were forced to pay for the privilege. Basically they killed their own game and are trying to huxter console players for more money while simultaneously hoping this new model works and keeps the IP alive leading to New World Aeternum actually being a live service game worth developing. They killed New World the MMORPG for PC. They won't even CALL it an MMORPG now. It's now some form of hybrid - a co-op/soloable ARPG with probably a battle pass which still has 10 man raids and MMORPG themepark attractions. Many console gamers wanted to try New World but didn't have PC, and most don't even know the state the game is in. Amazon was at least smart enough to know that they can't sell this game to a new market (console) it as is, because it will meet the same fate; which is why they've revamped it into what it is. It's like what happened with Wayfinder, only AGS's wounds are self-inflicted. Life happens, shit happens, mistakes are made... They're moving on, and doing damage control, but they want to save their baby and not toss it out with the bathwater, and that's ok. Communication issues aside, I probably would do the same thing. They've sunk a lot into this project, it's their first run at something like this and there's a little bit of pride (the good kind) that goes with that territory. Move on, try to control damage, and if possible, save my baby - it's what I would do. Everybody knows steam forums/discussions are eye-cancer inducing and full of nothing but complaining haters. But still... the best thing would be to go for console. If they can win them over, and fix the game, then PC player base will come around eventually. Plus it gives them a whole set of people with fresh eyes on the game that aren't colored by bitterness of the past to poll, quiz, and gain metrics from.

    Yea, tbh it's sad. I really wish they handled it differently. Console is great, but they should have done it on the side, while still giving a bit of content to the PC players, even if it took a couple months extra to release console, this could have all been avoided.

    Thanks for watching man. I agree. It’s such a shame. I wish a lot of things had been different. That players hadn’t been so hateful. And that the devs had handled it better. I just don’t think they care anymore.

  • @KamoChameleon

    I don't think they are mutually exclusive to be honest. I think they were shifting heavily towards console (they were starting too last year) but they had this idea they could keep the PC players happy to with some more content. Otherwise why promise so much to the PC in such an obvious way then not deliver? It makes no sense on that front. I feel it all went wrong somewhere and they shifted to 'oh well let's just focus on the console players then' which is what we saw. I feel both of our theories can be correct they are not mutually exclusive. Either way it's all just theories at this point but if based on their past behaviour I'm not holding up hope.

    That’s a unique take. I think since the game has only existed on pc for 2.5 years and it’s now moving to console, it’s fair to say it’s being added to console despite some of the overlay changes

    I get your pitch, but it has nothing to do with how toxic the remaining pc community is. This was a business decision, not an emotional decision. You have to know that. They're running a business. The higher up's above Scott gave the AGS team marching orders to shift all development of the game for the past two years towards a Console platform release so they could benefit from a much larger surge of new players than try to sell expansions to the miniscule PC player base that has remained interested in the game. While closing the old forums was likely to curtail negative feedback that they felt was primarily toxic to their culture and work environment, and sales the shift to Console isn't a psychological or emotional decision AGS has made, it's purely a business model shift. This was a decision made by a board of executives in strategic thinking meetings as to what to do with New World. It wasn't made by NW's community manager's who have no authority.

    No yeah I agree with you. But I do think the BEST “business model” would have been to ALSO appeal to current PC players as well. People would have still been disappointed for sure, but the onslaught of bad press and negative steam reviews wouldn’t have happened. But because of the history they decided “nah F that”. You know what I mean??

    If they wanted to move on and didn't expect any backlash they shouldn't have made MULTIPLE videos over the course of 7 months lying and leading on PC players telling us there would be a huge announcement in June.

  • @Z-MACx

    @Z-MACx

    As I mentioned, I think they expected SOME disappointment and negative feedback, but not the massive backlash. Due to the decreasing player count and incessant complaints from the community, the devs thought pc players would have moved on. Btw, I don’t agree at all with how the devs handled it. I couldn’t believe they didn’t release something specifically for the PC players. That was wild to me

  • @Der_Wolvenfang

    They are liars, plenty of videos to prove that beyond a doubt. And yeah, people in general would rather burn the entire ship down than have another crew take it. Which is basic shit, and failing to know that proves how incompetent they are. There are plenty of videos to prove that as well. Straight aping at AGS.

    Well it's clearly not perfect but the part is all about what you prefer and/or like it or not. Personally I really love it and I prefer this idea over anything. The idea is good, the implementation is dogs*it thanks to AGS. I really like the pace of combat in NW, not too fast, not too slow. But indeed it can be really clunky sometimes with bunch of bugs on top of that. It's a shame that majority of the players have been aware of this game's potential for years. Everyone has tried to stay optimistic because of it. - 5k hours -
