We have a new World Record ⏱ !! USA broke the Men’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay at the 16th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) 2022.
The team of Kieran Smith (1:41.04), Carson Foster (1:40.48), Trenton Julian (1:41.44), and Drew Kibler (1:41.16) took nearly three seconds off the world record that Brazil set in 2018 at 6:46.81 as all four of the American swimmers were on the team this summer at the Budapest Worlds that won the gold medal.

Aussies were missing Winnington or Incerti for that fourth leg but the US would have still won but it would've been much closer.
Over time other countries have increasingly challenged US dominance in swimming, amazing when our athletes remind everyone who’s the very best!

This is short course swimming. Britain dominates this race in the long course.

@@lollymanna winning one Olympics when the USA won the 4 prior isnt dominating, but GB was amazing in Tokyo for sure. Almost broke the super suit world record. We will see in Paris if they can beat this new American relay. Will be interesting

@@user-vm2ix8pj8j We are talking about the 800 freestyle relay, not the 1996 olympics. and the united states had way more medals overall than russia in that olympics, despite russia having 1 more gold. Certainly a down year for the USA by their standards though. I wish I could see Alexander Popov swim, he was amazing.

The fact is that. starting from the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, and until the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 (six Olympic Gemes in a row) in the Men's Backstroke at distances of 100 and 200 meters, the representatives of the USA won, until He came - Evgeny Rylov. It was He who broke this US backstroke streak that began with the last Millennium.
Italy’s last leg though… they were 1 body length behind Korea at 600m and the anchor brought it home in third🤯

Is this a different world record than if it were swum in a 50-meter pool? I hadn't seen an event in a 25-meter pool before this one.

Yes. 50m pool and 25m pool are different. For the same distance, 25m pool is faster because more turns and kicks off the wall to help.
