NEW WIG WEARER SERIES Episode #6 - How to Wash and care for your synthetic wigs

In this video I talk about how to wash and generally care for your synthetic fiber wig, and I demonstrate how to wash it.
TIMESTAMPS:
0:00- Intro
18:53- Washing Demonstration
My favorite Shampoo and Conditioner products are as follows:
#1- Belle Madame. I buy mine from Continental Wigs in the UK... they ship internationally and are actually quite fast to the US. Their prices are often LOWER than here in the US as well (especially right now with the exchange rate). If you pay with Paypal they will do the conversion for you. If you spend more than $150 you can use the code WIGSIS to get free expedited shipping (so look to see if there is a wig you want and then buy that at the same time). This is NOT sponsored and I get no kickback from them whatsoever, they were just nice enough to give me a code to share. Here is a link: continentalwig...
#2- Estetica Wet Line- this is a CLOSE second and I really do use them interchangeably
Shampoo: amzn.to/3QV0XXL
Conditioner: amzn.to/3Sm59AY

    I've bought the pricey special wig shampoo, and I've just sloshed a wig around in the sink with some dishwashing liquid; and honestly haven't noticed much of a difference between the two. That Bambu Silicone conditioner, though - now, THAT stuff really makes a difference! It's a pain, because you have to smear it all over the wig and then let it soak in a Ziploc bag for hours: definitely time consuming. But it makes it really soft!

    Thanks for another great video. I do have one more suggestion. Be mindful of your water source. I have a well and I just don't trust the integrity of my water where my wigs are concerned. We use a Berkey filter for our drinking water but I prefer to use bottled water, maybe even distilled to wash my wigs. I grew up with hard water in the house and we all had an orange tint to our hair, I don't know what might happen if you use a water softener either. So, be careful there.

    Excellent! Fake Hair Mama uses Dr. Bronner castile soap and since I have it on hand that’s what I’ve been using with a spritz or two of my Jon Renau detangle spray instead of conditioner. So far so good and since I’m ultra sensitive to products and fragrances I use the unscented castile soap. Thanks for doing such an amazing job on this series. Your hard work is recognized and appreciated!

    Another great video, Denise :-) I, too, buy the large size Belle Madame - their shipping charge to New Zealand is, surprisingly, very good. Instead of a towel, I use a top quality extra large synthetic chamois (mine is made in Germany). Removes more water, so faster drying. Have also used a sports style micofibre towel, but the chamois is my first choice. Just make sure you hide it from any car fanatics ;-)

    @@heywigsister My chamois does double duty - I use it as a mat when I hang the wig to dry; the chamois is still sufficiently absorbent enough to soak up the drips as the wig dries without soaking the floor :-)

    This was a lot of good information! Nicely done. I've been wearing and rehabing wigs for 36 years, and I've always used woolite, or coolove, a product like woolite that I can't find anymore. I live in the desert, where the wind can be ferocious, so aquanet is my best friend, however it takes a good soaking to loosen that stuff up. I have found fabric softener to be either useless, or sticky, so I just rinse very well. I've had wigs last for 20 years, not fancy wigs that cost a fortune, just modacrylic fiber... Having a steamer is a must, just practice on an old wig, and you may find the old wig comes back to life. This video is detailed, with great information.

    This was great, as always. It's nice you take the time to cover things at a pace we can all actually see what's involved. Much easier to learn from a visual rather than just verbal or written, imo. I have several hand tied pieces. I haven't worn any of them enough yet to require washing them. Have also read about the conditioner loosening the knots, so probably will be extra careful when I do wash them. Will share how it goes. Looking forward to your continuation of this series. Hi! It is an eye shadow palette by Revolution- I just discovered this brand and LOVE IT! I have a few different things by them now and the price is amazing. Unfortunately this one is out of stock, but here is a link to it so you can see....www.revolutionbeauty.us/alexis-stone-eye-shadow-palette-the-transformation/12657352.html

    Hi! You don't necessarily need bobby pins... are you taking about using them to secure your hair under the wig, or secure your wig to you head? Tell me more about what you are looking to do and then I am happy to help. Feel free to email me at heywigsister@gmail.com ... sometimes comments get lost here on KZread when I get a lot of them.

    @@SeekChrist82 so I know people will use Bobby pins to secure their wig, but I never had much success with that. My hair was simply too fine and slippery. I have found that a good wig grips is ALL I need... prior to finding a wig grip that worked for me (they are NOT all created equal) I used to use It Stays and just secure the front and that worked great for all day wear. Sometimes people struggle with wigs riding up in the back due to a flat occipital bone, if that happens I have a blog post with ideas for how to tackle that (keep in mind that most wig wearers will feel like the wig is slipping up due to not being used to the sensation of a wig on their head, for many this goes away). Here is a video I did on securing your wig: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oHWa1MimqsvTeJc.html

    What about human hair wigs? Can you use conventional hair products?

  • @heywigsister

    @heywigsister

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, you definitely can.... just remember that Human Hair wigs do not benefit from the scalp oils that hair on our head does, so try to stay away from products that have a lot of alcohol or drying ingredients. The less chemicals in it the better.

    Thank you for this. I have been wearing wigs for at least 10 years and I washed my wigs at first and they always looked awful when I was done so now…..I wear them for months and then just get a new one. Isn’t that horrible??!!! I always used watered down baby shampoo. Maybe that was the problem….

  • @heywigsister

    @heywigsister

    I don't think that is horrible, not if it worked for you! I am a fan of wearing my wigs absolutely as long as I can before washing... if they don't stink then they must be good, lol.... as for how you washed them, it could be the shampoo although I have had a least 2 wig sisters tell me they use baby shampoo and love it. Did you use any sort of conditioner after? If you didn't that could have been the issue.... I honestly have never had a wig look awful after washing with the products I showed in this video.
