New Way Sidewinder Demo in Torrance

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

After a solid 25-year streak of Heil 7000s Torrance was forced to try something new due to Heil's decision to pull the 7000 from their lineup. Ultimately the city stuck with Heil and purchased Durapack Rapid Rails. I liked what I saw with this demo, and it looked like the this truck could move pretty quickly but the driver understandably was moving pretty slow as this was first day in one of these. Unfortunately I never managed to get on film or even see the arm extended anywhere near its full length as it seems residents here have become accustomed to the minimal reach of the 7000 arm given that many carts were placed away from the curb especially near parked cars. Thanks to the driver

I would like to know the down side of the Unit all is fine and dandy here how about the regen and soot levels is this computerized which causes a lot of shop time 5 years down the Road for starters?

Really cool to see these becoming more popular in SoCal. These are good trucks, and have the potential to be lightning fast with a good driver and a correct pump setup. Looks good with the 320 too. It's very disappointing that Heil discontinued the 7000 model, as that was, in my opinion, their best truck and a quality automated side loader. It's sad to say that they will loose business from many municipalities, including Torrance. Glad they chose this over something like a Rapid Rail or Autoreach. Nice find.

+garbageproductions1 I believe Heil still makes the 7000 (for now), but they just don't advertise it. Yeah, I agree. One of the few automated trucks that you doesn't require the arm to be retracted to dump a can. Thanks!

+garbageproductions1 +WasteManTony Heil is no longer making the 7000, they are currently only making the Python and Rapid Rail arms. Also the Sidewinder arm is capable up lifting the container on its way in, it is dual function with a proximity switch that limits the arm up function halfway, so the driver cannot dump material outside of the hopper.

Nice video. Cool to see another one of these. I'm guessing these will be set up with 300 grippers. Really nice video. Enjoyed it

Still sad that Torrance won't be getting anymore 7000s. Your shots in this one came out great. I am pretty curious how these trucks will look like in Torrance colors.

Great to see more of this truck! It'll be interesting to see how these will look in Torrance colors and a tag. What are the other three cities that you know of with New Way ASLs? I know of Pomona and Redlands, but can't think of a third off the top of my head. Awesome vid!

Nice video! Would be cool when Torrance gets these they would be on diesel instead of CNG. Did you ask anything about the truck? Nice video again!!

+L.A TrashProductions they'll be CNG; if they were diesel they wouldn't be able to keep them very long. No I didn't have any questions. Thanks!

I really hope that the production batch is a bit faster than this... Compared to how most of their drivers work, this seems rather slow. I would assume they will keep the 300s, since there is only 1 route. Also, the sidewinder probably has too much kickout for many of those alleys in old town.

+ATSFpony there are a couple times in this video where he moved a little quicker. The truck was certainly capable of it, but he had only been driving for about a half hour when I found him so he wasn't used to it. I'm curious to see what happens with the 300s.

+WasteManTony +ATSFpony this truck is much faster with an experienced driver. The truck has proportional controls which allows the driver to go slow when needed. Move the joystick a little it goes slow, move it all the way, full speed. With the added reach the driver doesn't need to turn into cans and allows for better efficiency. The arm looks slow because it is so smooth and doesn't shake the cab like most other ASL's on the market. The truck does have a 300 gal. gripper option. The city only uses one truck to do their 300 routes. So that truck would come with the bigger grippers.

I don't get it. That arm is no different from the Labrie Automizer. Therefore, this truck is a rip-off, and Labrie should sue New Way.

just because it's a similar arm doesn't mean New Way went and just "ripped off" Labrie. They got the rights for it somehow, otherwise they probably wouldn't even have been able to get it into production.
