that would be a good unit for someone new starting out that dont have the funds to get a far size dozer and excavator at the same time, but if fails do to it looks like the blade is not as wide as the tracks, witch is defensively not good, the blade should also be made so it angels both ways, a 4 way would be the best, if these were fixed i could see it being very handy and adding a good thumb, but the blade not coming out past the tracks is not what one would want, also the blade dont need to be sticking out that far out front, it looks like it could be shortened up a lot, also if these changes were made it would be a great unit for smaller job for the bigger guys as well save the customer a lot, being if 2 machines were needed it would save the floating cost of 2 machines being the customer has to pay floating to the site as well as away from the site, witch i have always felt that to be double dipping because when the unit leaves a site it is going to another job and that other customer is being charged for floating in,, but thats how they do it, i never charged floating out of my mini and i get nasty call or words from other people because i dont charge both ways

In all reality, anything you could do with a zero-turn can be done with a full tail machine. I work in the demolition industry. We purchased that machine without the blade however and all the machines we run are zero tail. We used to run full tail and the tail would constantly get damaged. A few pipes got put through radiators from big industrial buildings so that zero tail allows you to get in tight spaces and not worry about damaging the machine. Even things you take for granted like digging up concrete guys will pile it up taller than their tracks and then forget to back up spin around and hit the pile with their tail, smashing, radiator, doors, etc. So the zero tells just protect your investment in the long run

@Ubeer85
5 жыл бұрын
The EC355E is in the same class as the EC300E (not weight). The downside with a short swing is that you need to increase the weight to get similar performance. The EC355 weighs 3-6 tons more then the EC300 depending on equipment. The weight difference isnt as big on the smaller machines. (EC220, EC235). Another downside with short tail is that you loose alot of performance with the longer options with boom and stick. So the downsides are 1: Increased weight. 2: Less performance with longer stick and boom.

I have a question why would someone operate an excavator with the bucket facing outwards instead of inwards. I'm just asking because I saw someone do it the other day while I was driving?
@danielroe845

dr. Green Thumb Lots of reasons, unloading stone or concrete from a forward tip dumper, grading out material, digging into the corner of an awkward trench, undermining cable, pipe etc.

Daniel Roe thank you, I had never seen it before and just wondered the purpose.
@ToTheTopCrane

dr. Green Thumb, if you have to dig under some things, a backward bucket is about the only way to make that happen. I have a video on my channel where we were removing some underground tanks. One of them was under a foundation. They had to remove material under the tank so we could swing it out from under the foundation. In that video, the hoe operator was using a backwards bucket. If Chris will let me, I'll post a link to that video.

what's the downside to zero swing? just gotta be heavier to get the same power? does the blade make up the difference?
@SethChase42
5 жыл бұрын
clarification, a lighter counterweight would have to be further from the center of gravity to have the same torque to provide leverage for big lifts/pulls, right? and a blade could either act as a counter weight on the back, or extend the pivot point further forward if facing the other way ... does it all come out pretty even overall?
@Ubeer85
5 жыл бұрын
The biggest downside with a shorttail compared to the standard model is the increased weight, less performance with longer boom and stick and also servicebility is worse since everything is to tightly configurated

that would be a good unit for someone new starting out that dont have the funds to get a far size dozer and excavator at the same time, but if fails do to it looks like the blade is not as wide as the tracks, witch is defensively not good, the blade should also be made so it angels both ways, a 4 way would be the best, if these were fixed i could see it being very handy and adding a good thumb, but the blade not coming out past the tracks is not what one would want, also the blade dont need to be sticking out that far out front, it looks like it could be shortened up a lot, also if these changes were made it would be a great unit for smaller job for the bigger guys as well save the customer a lot, being if 2 machines were needed it would save the floating cost of 2 machines being the customer has to pay floating to the site as well as away from the site, witch i have always felt that to be double dipping because when the unit leaves a site it is going to another job and that other customer is being charged for floating in,, but thats how they do it, i never charged floating out of my mini and i get nasty call or words from other people because i dont charge both ways
Chris now no more scratch...and the blade is very handy... R U sure 250 is the right choise? All the Best From Poland JBB
So I am waiting for this to show up at your doorstep, its 2021 and no 355 with a blade yet. You could just combine the dozer and excavator in one. Just push the trees down on the lot clearing. 🍺🍺🍺
The machine appears to tip way way over when you had a full bucket, even bouncing off the ground one time. I've noticed this too be a problem with other Volvo's I've used also.
This one is quicker than the 290 you've had.:-)

The EC355E has the same hydraulics as the EC300E. The E-series has way better hydraulics then the B-C-series
Very impressive
How are you supposed to knock down trees and such when the counterweight doesn't overhang? Do they really expect you scratch up the paint on the bucket?
Does the zero turn capability really make much difference with the kind of work you do? They always seem sort of odd looking. Thanks!

Smoothie!
Like playing a video game with those controllers lol
That’s a big zero turn! No typically makes a zero turn that big do they? I guess it’s a good idea when you need a big machine in tight places!

R - cool thanks I’m always around the smaller machines or minis. There’s a decent size Komatsu that’s working down from my shop right now that’s zero tail swing. But it’s probably in the 30,000 -40,000 lb range

Cat also makes 35t class machine... 336F L CR. Also an 85,000 lb machine. John Deere makes a 345 reduced radius machine too.

John deere 345g and cat 335f zero tail swing
How many hours would you estimate you have operated an excavator?
That's 80k lbs? Looks smaller, but you're the expert.
U need to get one for ur fleet of urs
just need a root rake on it and your all set
So what do you give up with the zero turn? Less breakout force or bucket capacity? Has to be something without that longer counterweight back there to balance the machine.

One more down side. Compact power terrain. They are not friendly to work on.

Could be the turn radius, & the blade in front of machine
Zero swing has got to be hard on the center bearing, no?
It won’t be long they’ll be 8 foot bucket and you can have some fun
Love volvo
I think Chris just likes to play in the mud!
The blade is really handy
Que du bonheur 👍
What's the down side of having box blade? Any?
...wow, looks like a 'dozer with an excavator attachment..lol

The blade is for rookie!! There's nothing u can do with it that I can't do faster with bucket.Also if u ever get in some serious wet land that dam blade will get u in a bind!!!!!
Hey Chris does logger wade have some competition now , Is this your dindin? Cheer and beers from Aus
CAT engines are the best money can buy , so are there machines .
How big is the cab?
Go on and get it

I have a question why would someone operate an excavator with the bucket facing outwards instead of inwards. I'm just asking because I saw someone do it the other day while I was driving?

dr. Green Thumb Lots of reasons, unloading stone or concrete from a forward tip dumper, grading out material, digging into the corner of an awkward trench, undermining cable, pipe etc.

Running the bucket backwards changes the name of the machine from hoe to shovel.....right?

Duncan MacKenzie, technically I believe that is correct.
Can any body tell me were is the pattern control on the machine
Is this closer to a cat 321 or 335
I love you volvo
Would you now get a blade for a excavator that size. I can see the benefits of it.
I want one for chrismas please
what's the downside to zero swing? just gotta be heavier to get the same power? does the blade make up the difference?
@SethChase42

clarification, a lighter counterweight would have to be further from the center of gravity to have the same torque to provide leverage for big lifts/pulls, right? and a blade could either act as a counter weight on the back, or extend the pivot point further forward if facing the other way ... does it all come out pretty even overall?
@Ubeer85

The biggest downside with a shorttail compared to the standard model is the increased weight, less performance with longer boom and stick and also servicebility is worse since everything is to tightly configurated
That's some nasty material. Bad ass tractor though. Body seems awful close to undercarriage. I'm guessing this is way stronger than 220 or 250 even ?
How many HP does it have
Volvo are the best excavator..

Why ?
that machine weights over 90,000lbs.
CAT better started pick up game
Oh lookie there an idiot proof counter weight scuff counter measure . lol not a fan of zero clearance , but they do have their uses in tight subdivisions .Im an old pipeliner / site work contractor , and moving quantity and being able to set lift stations is key .
She will we start seeing you use it on your jobs ?
Volvo the best lol 😂
£80.000 good deal
The 250 got more power right ???
