I enjoy your videos, and have learned a lot from them. Would like some advice if I may. I have a 2021 Dell Vostro 3500, Core i-7 1165-g7, 16 gb ram(max). I am not big on using the terminal, most of my daily activities involve using the graphical interface and I cannot remember how to effectively use the terminal. Wanted to run Linux Mint 21.2, which I installed on a new ssd. Worked okay until I started trying to connect with my router USB drive. I spent 1and1/2 days trying to use terminal to connect. Finally installed Files(nautilas) and connected with it graphically. Everything seemed to be working fine, until the next day, my internet speed( Spectrum) upload dropped from 9.7mbps to .6 mbps. The only way I could get it back was to revert back to windows(swapping ssd) and reset various network settings, updated the drivers. Then I went back to Mint, worked okay for a few days, then I wanted to connect up to Dropbox, and I run into same problem with the internet speed. My questions is: Is there another distro of Linux that would work better? and Is this an issue with my laptop?

What do you mean your router USB drive ? As in you have a USB drive directly connected to your router, like a barebones NAS ? A bit weird that, from what you say, the router settings get changed, not just how you connect to it. Anyway, your problem sounds very specific, so if you don't have the luck over here on YT, you should ask for help on a forum or in a chatroom, like that Matrix one.

These drives are though because their intenal hardware automatically monitors the health of all memory cells in real time and indexes out those about to go bad and put their data elsewhere before loosing the data. There are some software that can tell you how degraded a drive is, CrystalDiskInfo is a popular one.

Distros like ubuntu which I tried in my experiences was very laggy, and I had not very good experience with other distros, but I used LM Xfce like a couple of months on my old spare laptop before and I loved it because of it's stability and lightweight.

4:44 "now opens almost instantaneously" 😆 Dropping the IRC client was a good move. IRC has been DEAD for a long, long time. Back when I was spending time on it in the very early 2000's it was also a toxic environment where very few of the folks present actually knew what the hell they were talking about, but most everyone loved to pretend that they did know. 10:23 "Patrick Griffis (aka “Tingping”), known for his work on many open-source projects (GNOME, Flatpak, Gnome-MPV, Meson, etc.), announced the end of the Hexchat project: [...] In Linux Mint, Hexchat has been the default IRC client since 2014. Before that Linux Mint shipped with Xchat, which Hexchat was based on. I can’t remember the last time we shipped without an IRC client, if we ever did. Going forward, since Hexchat is discontinued, we need to either remove it from the default selection or replace it with another application." - Clem, "Monthly News - February 2024", 5 March 2024, Linux Mint Blog Not because "IRC as a protocol is getting quite ancient now"

I've hopped almost every distro within every Linux family and I have always come back to Mint because it's just an all-around great package. I'm on LMDE now, because Canonical is Microsoft repackaged.

Still not having Wayland is a bit of a bummer, otherwise great stuff! Much prefer arch here over a debian/ubuntu base for a desktop, but that's just me.

@@motoryzen I don't want it to be like Android tablet, but I think putting a bit effort on it's design to make it more modern would be a great thing to do. Don't get me wrong, I understand different people have different use cases and taste and I love Linux mint. It's just start menu feels way too much traditional and windows like. Making it better doesn't mean to make it more tablet like mate.

If you want to use a tablet or phone then use a tablet or phone, the entire point of Linux Mint cinnamon is a tried-and-true traditional design that just works and it's something that Windows users are very familiar with which draws more incoming Windows users to the Linux world than any other distribution for throughout the past 7 plus years

Tying into that point and a case you're whining about how Linux Mint never has the newest kernels, Linux Mint isn't about being brand new and bleeding edge it's about being rock-solid and dependable and being a happy medium between that and bleeding edge. It's not like any of this is anything new

mint seems so behind and slow compared to other distros. ubuntu is moving so much faster when it comes to wayland, fractional scaling, gestures, up to date kernels etc. used to have mint for a long time but now its unusable with modern hardware.

It also works like absolute shiiit. Just for longest time tried to install Ubuntu LTS to one of my laptops. Got everything setup correctly and then began to copy very large files from USB drive to internal drive and system freezes completely every single time. Good reminder why I ditched Ubuntu for a long time. There's always something broken in it.
