I sure couldn't complain about this draft. If Tippman goes "too high" but ends up even a solid starter for 8+ years, no one will say that down the road. I'm just pleased they're FINALLY seemingly going to address the position. Love the logic and effort you put into these.

I gotta say that you've really opened my mind up about Richardson at #5. I was always having the thought that no way he graded in the top 5 (too raw). Your article about the reality of QB scouting is just excellent and makes a lot of sense. The 'projecting' you have mentioned via from Schneider is the ultimate skill for a GM that will win Superbowls. It is so tough for those GM's as all of them have failures. The one with the least amount of failures wins. Those mocks look fun and can drive you nuts at times too haha. Thanks Rob for the quality of your work that you put into it. AR never got this much love until his combine. I wonder when the cycle for people of creaming over the combine will stop.
Rob, this draft contains all players which enhance Seattle roaster greatly not just for 2023, but for a few years in the future. What it is also is honest, common sense and most importantly realistic to what could actually happen. To many mock drafts way over realistic in what the person actually think will happen and those players will never drop to Seattle. The mock hits on the trenches and gives Seattle the Franchise QB they need to move on from Wilson era. The meat of this draft is in rd2 &3 where are loads of good players to pick from, so unless you draft stupidly, your bound to enhance the trenches which were Seattle needs improvement and depth. As ever keep up content and await next live stream with Robbie/Adam.
Love the content. Fuck all these haters.
Arich, Mcdonald, Tippman would be a home run. Two if my absolute favorite players in the draft first. Not a huge fan of Pickens but he fills a need.
Always a great morning waking up to a new Rob mock!
My dream draft is AR and McDonald on the Hawk's.. I would have AR sit the 1st year, but you could bring him on short yard's downs to confuse the defense. Thx for all your hard work, Rob..
I love the content Rob! If this happens I’ll be absolutely stoked, however it feels a little like “manifestation”. I don’t see AR getting past 3. Secretly, i think many teams want him but don't want to blow their cover, they are keeping it a secret. I'll tell you how they throw a smoke-screen. Take the Colts for example, they sent their entire scouting staff to see Will Levis, TOTAL BS, there's no way. Trust me when I say, they will NOT draft Will Levis......this post will age very well. If they indeed DO take Will Levis, that means their first choice was already taken by someone JUMPING them in the draft. So if they take Will Levis, they are throwing in the towel and they will play Gardener Minshew for the entire season while Will Levis sits for a year and pines on the bench while pumping weights and selling supplements.
Don't you think the Jets will trade their First Round Pick to the Packers (cuz of Rodgers)?

Rob, I've changed my mind: JALEN CARTER is the right first pick for Seattle. He can sigle handedly help transform their defense-- which must happen NOW if they are to become Super Bowl contenders in the next few years. I believe coaches and defensive leaders like Warner/Diggs can guide and develop him to his potential. I love Anthony Richardson, but we have a solid quarterback and I'm sceptical of this "let him sit and develop for two years" theory....
@robstatonfootball
Жыл бұрын
How does he transform the defense if he needs to spend 2-3 years working on his conditioning, changing his attitude, learning to be a pro and what time to actually turn up for meetings and lifting sessions? They aren’t going to waste the time and babysit him. And you don’t win the Super Bowl with a “solid” quarterback. Single handedly? He couldn’t stay on the field in a lot of games.

'No way' (aside from the fact people are reporting there have been talks)
Hi Rob: An interesting take on the top of the draft, but I’m not convinced by the Seahawks hyperbole about taking a quarterback- given their stated objective after the dismal showing in the playoffs that they need to rebuild their front seven on the defense, and Pete Carroll’s subsequent comments about how pleased he is with their quarterbacks and their system to develop quarterbacks (ie Drew Locke) for the future. I understand that it’s rare for them to be in a position to draft a high profile quarterback at the top of the draft, but they think their window to win is open now. A raw undeveloped quarterback won’t really ready to start playing for at least two years. And to have Richardson on the roster taking up space (and fan distraction) for the next two years while they’re trying to win with Geno Smith would just be an anchor to their present plan to take this team with a rebuilt defense as far as it can go. My unqualified opinion is that they will try to trade down if Will Anderson isn’t available and if Jalen Carter didn’t impress them enough when they met with him last week. If a trade down isn’t a good option, they will stick with their draft philosophy as recently articulated by John Schneider to take “the best player available who fits their system” - even if that player is a cornerback like Devon Witherspoon or even a safety like Brian Branch. They have learned their lesson from the L.J. Collier debacle and will no longer be drafting for need. I loved the trade down with Buffalo to take Will McDonald and pick up some additional draft capital. That sounds like something they would consider.
@robstatonfootball

Why is considering investing in a young, talented QB ever labelled 'hyperbole'?
@geoffreyjones359
Жыл бұрын
@@robstatonfootball it’s hyperbolic if it makes no practical sense for this team at this time, and is just being talked up to persuade other teams to want to trade up. Maybe they really would like to draft Anthony Richardson, they are known for doing the unconventional. And there’s no question that he’s a rare athletic talent. It just doesn’t make sense for this team at this time to draft a raw young quarterback to ride the bench for two years (not to mention the distraction it would cause from impatient fans and media), if they think they can win now if they improve their defense improves enough. I’ve heard Pete Carroll talk about how much they like Geno Smith and Drew Locke and they believe their system can bring out the best in them. Pete also specifically talked about the need to rebuild their front seven on defense to be able to compete with San Francisco next year. That’s what I’ve heard that makes me wonder if they are talking about drafting a quarterback, only to generate interest from other teams. I could be wrong, but so can anybody else that thinks they can predict what the Seahawks will do in the draft.
@robstatonfootball
Жыл бұрын
@@geoffreyjones359 It makes perfect practical sense. You might disagree it'll happen but it's in no way shape or form 'hyperbolic' to talk about Seattle drafting a QB.
@geoffreyjones359
Жыл бұрын
@@robstatonfootball okay. Maybe disingenuous is a better word. I just don’t think they have any intention of drafting a raw young quarterback- especially after re-signing Geno and Drew Locke. However, I admit that I could be wrong, and furthermore I’ll also adamantly agree with you that Richardson’s incredible athleticism makes him a very tantalizing prospect for any team. But I think the Seahawks are disciplined enough to recognize the distraction his presence would be for someone like Geno Smith whose confidence may be easily shaken. And that a quarterback controversy would arise with the fans and media every time Geno makes a mistake or has a bad game. It seems unlikely that Pete Carroll will be coaching for another 5 years and I believe he would love to win another super bowl before he retires, so he believes their window has to be open now, and that Geno can get them there if they have a better defense. In any case, it will be moot if Anthony Richardson is already gone by the time they pick at number 5 - which is starting to look very plausible.
@robstatonfootball
Жыл бұрын
@@geoffreyjones359 Lock has a one-year backup deal and there's a clear out on Geno's contract (neither is their guarantee he'll justify sticking around as long as you suggest). Even if they don't take a QB, it's 100% been a very serious consideration and could well happen.
Seems like Seattle has edge players. If they don’t much like Mafe or Smith or Robinson suppose they could go edge. DT makes more sense to me. I think Bresee is going to be a sleeper in this draft.
I could see Carter going #9, but I just have a hard time seeing the Bears passing on him and trading further back. They've already traded back and added so much capital, only to have potentially the best overall player fall to them. That scenario makes the red flags much easier to stomach and it would seem so hard to pass on that opportunity. Yes, they need plenty of draft picks, but I think this is the point where quality outweighs quantity.
If Jalen carter is there at 9 for the bears I really don’t think they trade out
As a Bears fan, if Carter is there I don't think we pass on him imo
This isn't in response to your mock, but I've seen A LOT of mock drafts, and I haven't really liked any of them. That said, your podcast with Jacson Bevens and the context within it the other day was 24 carat gold. The question I have is, why are there so many mocks with Tyree Wilson going to the Seahawks at #5? The Seahawks didn't have a top 30 visit with him, no reported meetings, interviews, interest, etc. How does it make sense for the Seahawks to use their highest pick in decades and give a $34M fully guaranteed contract to a guy whom they haven't shown interest? I know teams try to guard their cards, but the Seahawks and the NFL aren't the KGB. If the Seahawks were interested in Tyree Wilson, we'd definitely know about it. Do the talking heads even think about this stuff before broadcasting that fodder? Basically, I round file mocks that have a bunch of players who aren't anywhere to be found on their 30 visits/interest tracker, and I notice all the players you picked here, the team has shown documented interest, which obviously make a lot more sense.
I like your picks mate…better than the clueless draft gurus who get paid to do it…but your late 1 and early 2nd round are questionable.

“Go heavy” in the draft can be done without taking a defender at 5. Especially if the pick isn’t a Top5 talent. Will Anderson is the only defender who qualifies.
I would be very satisfied with this draft for the Hawks. Part of me hopes Anderson and Carter are both gone by 5 so the Hawks almost won't have a choice but to go QB.
Think Seattle would get a better offer than just a third rounder if it’s for JSN, especially if he’s the first receiver off the board. Rather Seattle just take him
There is zero chance the cowboys will take Gibbs at #26. They MIGHT move down and take him somewhere in the 30’s. Gibbs plus a 3rd makes sense. If we take him we will need to make it up by taking the falling interior lineman.

C.J. Stroud would be a nightmare for a rookie coach (COLTS) to try to coach since he (as you reported) is hard to coach. I'm thinking that no rookie-coach would want a nightmare QB. So that leaves Hendon Hooker for the Colts since all other QB's will be gone by then. A disaster for the Colts once the Panthers gave up the farm to acquire the first pick in the draft from the CHICAGO BEARS. I think the TITANS will move up to #3 and take the QB that the COLTS wanted. From all perspectives, the COLTS are the losers here in this draft, and they are the most needy. Let's look at that disaster of a roster....here's what they still need. 1) Offensive Linemen - 2022 was a disaster at O-line 2) CB - they gave up their lock-down corner to the Cowboys 3) they need Wide Receivers very badly- they are horrible at the WR position 4) Defensive Linemen - they have Kwity Paye & The Hurricane at the EDGE 😂

And everyone of Carter's red flags is a valid concern So it's easy to talk myself out of Carter over Richardson or even Levis, and I will accept whoever John and Pete take, but something happened on the way to the Great Western Forum, in dismissing Carter, I started to hear what people said, and watch certain highlights and my heart started thinking, it sure would be nice to have the inside game wrecker I and all Hawk fans crave. in my mocks, in stead of taking Richardson and trying to trade up for Carter, I started doing it the other way around. My brain knows you are right, but my heart wants a guy you have to double team.
Hey Mate, WHY would the Texans take Will Anderson Jr. when they need a quarterback? Third-year bust Davis Mills and 34-year-old journeyman Case Keenum are not the answer. There are better than average or really good edge rushers in every draft. Every year. Anderson is a great defensive player, but there will be an Anderson type in the 2024 draft. There are only limited opportunities to draft a good quarterback. As a Texans and a fan of the SEC, I would prefer Bryce Young. But CJ Stroud is the next best option. You then take Nolan Smith with Houston’s #12 pick. Are we stockpiling edge rushers. Do you realize that our offense ranked 31st out of 32 teams last season? We won three games because we could not score points. We don’t need Zay Flowers are #33, because we do not have a quarterback to throw him the football. I do not understand your selection. Why are you and Bob being so thick about this? Yes, DeMeco Ryans is the new head coach. Yes he a defensive guy. But at present, defense is not the issue. Go watch Bengal and his mock drafts, KZread highlights don’t mean shit on prospects .

I've watched every game he's played, as I have with all the top QB's in this class. I've interviewed one of them, plus team mates. I speak to people in the league. But a guy on KZread whose done no work on these guys is telling me I'm buying into combine hype. Love the internet.

@@robstatonfootball you absolutely aren’t making these decisions based on game tape. The supposed superiority of AR didn’t help him start on a mediocre Florida team until last year nor did he dominate an inferior division within the SEC so what else you got but the underwear Olympics? Bet you loved Malik Willis last year as well! You should stick with futball
