Torque tip from a nuclear mechanic. Always torque the nut instead of the bolt head if possible. It will give a more accurate torque. Torquing the bolt head may give you a few pounds less than called for. Good job.

We love our 2024 RAM 3500 Big Horn long bed. Have about 4800 miles so far. Mileage coming back down to Tennessee from Elkhart was not great at 8.3 mpg due to wind. We had MORryde install IS on our Alliance and had another place install a GEN Y hitch.

Congrats on your new setup! Glad you found your weight issues early. Too many people don’t realize that payload often is exceeded long before towing capacity. It is also somewhat confusing as every towing component from hitch and hitch balls to axles and frames all have their own limits and specs. Enjoy your forever truck!

Pretty cool. I have both a SRW Ram 3500 and DRW Ram 3500. My SRW has the mega cab, and the DRW is Crew Cab Long Bed. When truck shopping I was told it wasn't possible to tow a 5th wheel with a mega cab's short bed length, so I got the long bed instead in the dually. I wish I did what you guys did with that hitch. That's the best of both worlds!

I've got the first year 6.7 Cummins diesel megacab. It has a little over 600,000 miles on it and still going strong. Finally lost the transmission at 504,000 miles. (I always used Amsoil in the Tranny) I tow all the time with it. It still has the original A/C compressor and starter, motor hasn't been touched. The motor doesn't leak or use any oil yet. I also have a 2014 Cummins megacab with 240,000 miles on it,. It also has been trouble free. So you stated this is our truck of our lifetime. It sure can last your lifetime with proper care and maintenance. Way to go! Best advice is never stomp on it until it has reached full operating temp. and allow it to idle 3 minutes after towing to cool every thing down.

Towing with a dually truck is always a better tow no matter who the manufacturer is. Now you don't have to worry about weight issues and breaking is also more confident because your trailer is very well within your trucks tolerances. Congrats on the new truck and enjoy, happy camping guys.

I don't know if you guys know this but Cummins grid heaters have a tendency to fall apart and drop pieces into the cylinder(s) causing damage. It cost $1,000 but Banks power has a replacement intake with a different style heater that won't fall apart plus it improves performance. They have other bits and bobs that can improve performance and fuel economy as well.

Pulling my ORV GP F28RKS with a 2011 RAM 3500 Diesel Dually. It's been a really good combo. I can attest to the pain of hitting the cab. Bought my truck with a 2" hitch ball welded in the center (used to tow a gooseneck horse trailer). I use a gooseneck hitch, but it does allow me to turn far too close and crunch the cab. I'm usually pretty careful, but I was wrestling with getting into a camp site and OUCH! Makes me wince every time I approach the truck.

Your new truck is a great truck. I know peeps with all brands of truck. Learn about tire pressure. Tire traction and air pressure, especially on your Dooley will control a lot of what the truck does depending on the surface and conditions. Ninety percent of the time you will be ok. But if you get to a stuck point or an area where you really feel your traction will be a problem learn to do the work and lower tire pressure for better traction. Study how to use your drive train. Know what differential lock is and how to use it. Are you considering airbags? You have a busy 10 days. New truck, hitch issues. That’s part of the excitement. Beautiful resort. I prefer the long bed trucks. I don’t lose as much bed storage and worry less about the slide not working and even if it does work truck cabs have been hit. Keep slide clean and nothing in bed. Your setup looks very sharp. Check the level of trailer on a level surface. Check the clearance of truck bed to trailer. This is so when your truck pulls down into a drop like getting into or out of a fuel station the bed can get close to the trailer. I think I’m an inch high but I like my clearance from bed to trailer. I might be at 6”

I am switching out to a different style. Still Brass connectors but with an O-rings on the end of the male portion of the fitting. All of the quick connects changed on the RV and now will start working on changing out on the house.

I think what you are describing with the way the Dodge 3500 tows, is that it has a more stable feel to it vs the Ford Tremor. Which is something I noticed when I went from Ford & Chevy single axel trucks to my old 1999 Dodge Quad Club Cab 3500 Cummings Diesel was that it felt more stable over all. But my Dodge was a 5 speed manual with a flat bed, not an automatic. I had two differences though, as I was set up to tow trailers with air brakes and had no Jake brake (engine brake). Those Cumming engines pull like a bull on steroids, but that’s because they are basically the same as a Semi truck engine so I am not surprised you have fallen in love with it.

We had a Ram 3500 srw and it seemed to pull fine, but several years later we got on the scale and the truck was about 700 lbs. overweight. We also have 2 rottweilers riding in the back to add an extra 200 lbs. We later started shopping for a duelly and found a 2017 Ram 3500 drw. It was a limited trim and had the HO Cummins with the Aisin transmission. We love the truck and we have traveled out west with it and will be coming back through the rockies soon.

Some of the trailer service centers have the ability to weigh individual axles, so you'll know if nose down or nose high of the trailer changes the load carried on each axle. Like you did with the Ford, a CAT scale can be your friend. A nose high trailer will reduce tow vehicle weight distribution. Also a very inexpensive tire tread depth gauge to check the trailer tires will give you a clue on trailer loading. With your trailer weighing 16k, you're close to max weight on a tandem axle single wheel trailer. Nice looking truck and great sound of the Cummins engine brake..

I meant to congratulate you on the new truck with the first video. I went to an 8' bed 2 trucks ago in 2017 and will never have another short bed pickup. People like to hand wring over the extra length, but if you're not trying to close a garage door behind it you get used to it. I do think the short bed duallys look weird, but to each his own LOL. I'm glad to see the upgrade is delivering what you expected so far. I have a '22 Ram 3500 Laramie dually, same color, but opted for the sport package (bright wheels and chrome mirrors and grille). Your trailer height looks good to me - truck and trailer both appear level. Only negatives on mine so far is two: 1. those Nexen tires suck. Be religious at keeping the steer tires at 80 psi cold and you might get 20k miles out of them. 2. Factory shocks suck. I have factory air ride, so that may be why. I'll eventually order Bilsteins from Geno's Garage. I'm not a paid endorsement, just a happy customer of Geno's for the last 10 yrs. Too bad you couldn't get the 50 gal fuel tank with that cab/bed, I love mine. Kinda pricey, but there's bigger aftermarket tanks available for your config that would be worth the dough IMO. Enjoy the new truck!

Irene, quick tip for driving a Dully especially when things get tight. The black line in the road from oil drops is usually about 12” wide. Use your right thigh as your guide and put it on the edge of that black drip line for normal driving and in the middle when crowded on your driver’s side. This elements rapid mirror checks or having to slow too much. Great looking truck and RV

I just use the convex to check the lines. Once you adjust, you'll do good. To really nail it down. Put some empty aluminum cans on the white lines in an empty parking lot and see how close you can get without squishing them. Really dials in your sense of position. I habe seen A LOT of dually fenders with giant smack marks from people getting use to a small suv and turning to sharp.

As a former RAM owner, I am glad to see you bought a big tourque wrench. [I loved the truck, but sold the big horse trailer and didn't need the truck anymore.] Mine (a 2004.5) had hub-centric front wheels. Those need regular re-check of the tourque on the lugs. It can be a very ugly surprise. ...ask me how I know. :)

Welcome to the Ram 3500 Dually family. Since you’re new just wanted to point out that the Ram will not turn as well as your prior truck. Honestly, the 3500 turns horrible when compared to single rear wheel truck and the F450, but I absolutely love my 2019. There should be a clip next to the bed RV plug to hook your breakaway to, saw someone say something about that. Enjoy the truck, as I stated, I love mine even towing my 40 foot toy hauler. I started with an 2015 2500 Ram single rear wheel drive, and when I went to the dually what a difference. You will not mind when large semi trucks pass you on the open highway anymore. Hint, learn to change your own fuel litters, it’s not had and takes bout 1 to 1,5 hours. Most dealerships will charge anywhere from $400 to $500 dollars to do it. Plenty of info on where to get the filters online, just buy the right 6 point socket for the front, have an extension or two, and a swivel and you are set…..

Tug test with stabilizers down. Reason being. If the king pin comes out the camper will fall and drive your stabilizers thru the bottom of your camper and also damage your truck when it falls. It will also take out your front cap on your camper. Think about it.

I always prefer to break in a truck with how it is going to be used. My last diesel I pulled off the lot and hooked up a 15k trailer and pulled it 3400 miles in the first 5 days. Rams tend to take a bit to break in, but once they do I usually saw the MPG jump, sometimes a good 10mpg, and then I knew it was broke in. They just get stronger with age.

What you think you need go one size bigger and you will be fine and it’s always better to have more truck then less and dulls make you feel so stable and a long bed dullay just rides better and the length won’t bother you after a 3 to 4 weeks of driving it and there is not a drive threw that I can not go threw even my back and that is a tight and I have a 05 Dodge 4 door long bed dullay 4x4 5.9 diesel 6 speed manual and have had this truck since new ,it’s just a thing you will love the stable feel you get and I my self I can not stand to worry about a sliding hitch that fails to slide make one less thing to worry about and get the long bed with the better ride look at all the semis with third long road tractors that get the best ride .
