As an experienced storm chaser of over a decade now and someone who has a meteorology degree I'm pretty impressed by this game's realism. I am definitely going to buy this game soon!

I grew up wanting to be a storm chaser but adults didn't tell me what I would need to study to become one. They never took me seriously. I adore, and respect, storms. And now I'm moving to England, where storms are few and typically weak. I'm going to feel too safe without my yearly slew of tornado threats XD
Speaking as someone who has lived in the midwest for many years, the least realistic part is the lack of people sitting out on lawnchairs with a beer cooler... LOL. But for real, that last tornado you captured? The one was likely an EF5 - EF means Enhanced Fujita Scale. It's a revised version of the original Fujita Scale, which measures the amount of damage a tornado will/can do. Also, the reason it pulled up and then dropped back down is it's fairly common for tornados to occasionally "hop" between areas, particularly when they have hills or a lot of larger buildings. When we lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma we had a tornado hop our neighborhood and absolutely decimate another neighborhood nearby - ours was entirely undamaged. The most terrifying thing, though, is watching a tornado that is forming just slam down onto a building and completely level it. I am really tempted to pick this game up now because it looks amazing!!

In a morbid way that's actually kind of sick? I've never experienced a tornado before, never even seen one, so I find them all different kinds of fascinating. They're so destructive but they're also insanely cool.

Same! I was born and raised in North Texas outside of DFW. I live in California now but I want to get this game now! I wanted to be a storm chaser at one point when I was a kid. (Yes I wanted to drive into the tornado lol.) I have even had a tornado hit my house once! Very minimal damage thankfully it only shattered some windows, ripped the roof off and tore out some telephone lines. Still expensive repairs but it could have been way worse.
2:19:43 oh, it’s one of the most realistic aspects of gameplay. Those kinds of grids stretch between all kinds of remote towns and most probably used to have houses on them, but farmers bought up and passed down land into parcels that tended to get larger over generations, matching what industrial agricultural technology allowed individual farmers to farm with minimal/no outside assistance. There’s a tax disincentive to keep residential buildings on agricultural land so it behooves a farmer to tear down any old residences, + the land gained to farm if there’s no farming/storage outbuildings on it.
As someone born in 1995 Twister was my favorite movie as a kid, learned how to use the VCR to sneak down and watch it in the middle of the night.

This video is an awesome Insym let's play of a cool looking game, punctuated every now and then by: "Screw it, I'm going offroad!" "OH NOOO GOING OFFROAD WAS A TERRIBLE IDEA" *Somehow manages to get back on the road after an eternity* "Okay, lesson learned, never going back offroad again" Only to re-do it all over again, and again, and again, and again. :P
Not gonna lie this game is way more interesting than I thought it would be. It is still very rough around the edges and it needs more stuff but if they can pull it of I am gonna buy it for sure.

In Australia we have traffic cams with AI and weight pads. So the AI will recognise traffic and change lights outside of peak times to match what traffic is coming. And the weight pads do the same, if you are stopped at the line waiting for the lights on the pad, it recognises you as being in queue and will change you to green.
Id love to see more of this! Tornadoes are so intense and fascinating!
In the US it is not necessarily “illegal” to off-road on someone’s property. If they ask you to leave then you have to. If you refuse leave then you are trespassing. For cell service comparison, the U.S. is a lot bigger of an area to cover. And some places are just super remote and some even have no population whatsoever. We have deserts, frozen wastelands, huge wetlands/marshes, seemingly endless planes and maintains that chain the equivalent of 2/3 the country’s width. Couple of fun facts: There is actually a crossable ice bridge between Alaska and Siberian Russia during the winter time about 2.5 miles (4km) long. The Appalachian mountains and the Scottish highlands are actually a part of the same “ancient Caledonian” mountain range. And are some of the oldest mountains on earth, dating back 1.2B years ago.❤
I remember just coming down the highway to a intersection in the next town over and i just so happened to look next to me to a field and it literally looked like a tornado spawned out of nowhere. It was like a big formation of "clouds" but the way they were shaped was like a funnel ie a tornado. I dont know what it was in the end but i took a couple of pictures. Me and my dad were like in the car like😐😑😐😑😐. It was so random. Edit: looking back at the pictures my old phone made it look darker than what it was, but also it did rain that day but by that point it obviously stopped. My dad is the type to not drive in heavy rain so i know for a fact by that point it had to been over for a while. Man i wish i could post a pic here. The "cloud" was so low to the ground and huge which is what made me notice it in the first place.

Amazing how people are saying "gas isn't cheap here". Just shows you how completely oblivious people are to the rest of the world.
@trailblazer288

While yes it is cheaper here it hurts us more whenever we get a spike in prices (even if it’s just .15) because we are underpaid with inflation. Minimum wages haven’t been touched in 30+ years through a lot of our country. Yet gas prices are up 400-700%
@evilannie8884
2 күн бұрын
Well imagine this. You need to drive everywhere you go. Every week alone I need to drive 50 miles just for my daughter to be with her dad. That's a short distance in America. There aren't really any good busses or train situations here so your choice really is drive and get a car or hinder your ability to work or get to the shops. Our infrastructure just isn't built for helping commutes. So with gas prices at 3.50 a gallon. If I get $20 for gas, it lasts me probably 2 days max and I'm an introvert who prefers to stay home. So it's probably a good 80-100 a week just for gas.
@tlpineapple1

The average mileage people drive daily in the U.S. is 42 miles (~69km). The average in the U.K. (which is the closest to the U.S. in terms of development style) is around 19 (~30km) a day, less then half. I cant find any data on the Netherlands, but i imagine the amount of people who dont even own a car significantly lower the average. Most people in the U.S. also drive vehicles shit for fuel economy averaging around 22-33 mpg (~9-14 kpl), lower for trucks/SUVs higher for sedans (cant find good consolidated data for the U.S. that estimates the overall average), people in the U.K. drive far more efficient vehicles averaging around 36 mpg (~15 kpl). A gallon a patrol can get someone living in the UK through a day and a half of driving, while the average American needs >2 gallons to get through the day. The average price of gas in the U.S. is ~3.50, while its ~6.80 (USD per gallon). Even assuming an American and a Brit have a car with the exact same fuel efficiency, the fact that we drive over twice as far as them means we are consuming twice as much gas on average (unfortunately its not realistic to account for city vs highway fuel economy). Thats not even touching the fact that most Americans are wholly unable to even consider alternate means of transit without significant hardship.
What I love about this video/game, is it shows how a lot of people end up dying. It's so fucking difficult to guess how close a tornado is - until it's too late. Just that massive scale is so hard to even predict where on the ground the tail is.
as someone who has watched tornado storm chases as a hyperfixation for years, this sounds like SUCh a fun game
Insym and OUTBRK is a good combo.
How Insym laughs at his own joke when Thorlar enters the chat XD I am here for it haha xx
I am so stoked to see how this goes! As a meteorologist in training, this will be interesting to see how things go.
this is absolutely amazing, loving every minute of the video !!
I was interested in picking up the game but I've learned the storms are all premade scenario. Considering how much you need to grind to unlock stuff, which none have any effect beside the Dominator truck, I'm afraid it's gonna get stale real quick. Multiplayer will be filled with players that know most scenario by heart and offline mode lacks the fun interaction with others.
Woah, Insym has been feeding my recent obsession with tornadoes - what an awesome combination!
Had to get this game just because of this stream, dude...this is awesome. I'd love to see more of this lol
Watched this on your twitch for better quality and must say I really enjoy this playthrough! How you continue this :) very comfy and fun to watch before bed 💕✨
I never expected you to ever play a tornado game in my life. Ggs in the chat he actually finally blew my mind.
I remember visiting in florida like 10 years ago and there was a tornado warning issued! We drove back to the hotel as the winds picked up and heavy rain. Thankfully no tornado but it was crazy weather!
Cozyness levels at 100%, Captain! In truth, when that big one was raging in the forest, I was truly satisfied seeing a cyclone of mythical proportions.
Bro storm chasers help the whole science business of tracking weather and severe storms to be able to better report potentially fatal incoming weather (which the US/North America see a lot of every year and wipes out towns).
i loved this, tornado storms are eerie. but this was fun! i chuckled every time the the player got bonked with hail and mr insym said ouch then got out of the car to do all over again. also that HUGE tornado is stylized in a way that reminds me of the tornado from life is strange. it was a fun ride of a video. 💜
Definitely need to see more looks fun af
This was really entertaining to watch! Hope to see more in the future! :)
To the gas price situation, Americans often will drive 60 miles sometimes more to get to work every day. It adds up way more than it does in a tiny country like The Netherlands or the UK which have more transit options and better walking infrastructure.
Cool game! Would love to see more videos like this!
3:18:56 The clouds that look like a ripple or waves are called undulatus clouds. If I remember correctly, it's not very common, but it does happen when there is an abrupt change in wind speeds, especially high speeds in one direction, basically a wind shear. Technically one of the more common spots for it is during tornados. Though on the screen there it shouldn't be rippling out from above you, the ripples should all be going towards the tornado.
@tlpineapple1
2 күн бұрын
Theyre actually so common that they appear in 6 of the 10 main cloud types. Theres also radiatus clouds that form that wave pattern they occur in parallel to the direction of the wind as opposed to perpendicular like with undulatus. The clouds in the game appear more like fibratus (only because of how perfectly parallel to eachother they are, and its likely more a technical issue within a game than anything else) which are upper level clouds formed form ice crystals being dragged by high winds. They can occur in any direction in regards to a tornado, because they arent directly linked to tornadoes, in fact, i saw these clouds the other day on an otherwise calm day.
@robblly8112
Сағат бұрын
@@tlpineapple1 Undulatus clouds are a type of cloud; there is no one undulatus cloud. I'm assuming you already know this. Specifically looking at context clues, from the models in-game to it being described as "waves," you could generally clue in that they may be referring to asperitas, a relatively rare cloud formation that are closely related to undulatus clouds, often following thunderstorm activity.
@tlpineapple1
42 минут бұрын
@@robblly8112 If you assume i already know, then there was no point in making your "correction". There is one category of undulatus cloud, which appears in 6 of the 10 main cloud types as i previously said. Meaning there are essentially 6 subtypes of undulatus with 3 appearing in different cumuliform clouds and 3 in different stratiform clouds. This should not have needed clarification, but there you go. And no, the models in game look absolutely nothing like asperitas clouds. Those clouds do not form at the level we see in game nor in that pattern. They might be thinking of those clouds, and it could be what the game is going for, but the models in game look nothing like it.
@robblly8112
10 минут бұрын
@@tlpineapple1 It wasn't a correction. Just like you did, it was a clarification; specifically so we were on the same page. There isn't any need to dig deeper, I am not judging your intelligence I was just offering another perspective. You're first paragraph is a reiteration of what I said. I am not sure what needs clarifying, but thanks. Reading you're second paragraph (and frankly the first one, too), I'm not understanding the argumentative language. I am not interested in a silly argument. I am hoping you are the same. First things first: I never said the clouds look like asperitas clouds, I'm not sure where that came from. In my perspective, they look _closer_ to asperitas clouds than any type of undulatus clouds I can think of, which is why I mentioned that as a reason I believe they are referring to that type of cloud. For the sake of it: I never called them correct or took a side. Your factual information agrees with mine and I'm pretty sure we're on the same page!
Watched this during a storm 😂 almost didn't hear my towns tornado sirens.
This was very entertaining to watch. I hope they add in even more cool stuff to the full game like actual traffic, would make it more engaging when traveling from storm to storm to have to avoid cars and trucks. Also maybe roads could get flooded out or blocked by debris?
Never thought i would see insym play a storm chasing game😭
I used to live in a tiny town in Michigan. I called it a cow town. It had more cows than people, no gas station, but it was Michigan so of course it had a bar.
Don’t think he will see this but with the velocity map, Storms are moving west to east. If the storm is west of the station, it will appear green and red is what you want to find in that. If it is east of the station the storm should be red and green is what you want to find. Don’t get confused by the north and south divider line. You will see a lot of red and green meeting each other north and south of the station because it’s the flipping point of coming and going.
hopefully this turns into a full series even if it would be an offline one. its super enjoyable to watch and to fall asleep to
I want to see some of my local storm chasers play all these storm chasing games. Tornado alley has been passed by dixie alley. In the last 5 years Mississippi and Alabama have had more tornadoes than Texas and Oklahoma. I'd imagine though your area might be more popular for storm chasing though since its more flat and open but I've seen them in the southeast too they go where the storms go. Edit: Just looked into it and tornadoes in dixie alley are more intense, on the ground longer, move faster, are usually rain wrapped, and are usually at night. That with the terrain having less visibility might be why its a less popular chasing area.
