This was legitimately one of the most well rounded games ever. It had amazing sound engineering, gameplay, and graphics for its time. It was also super hard sometimes! Like unreal how hard it was at times to place first or second in some maps/races

@@maegnificant yeah, you can finish the entire game without using boosts or drifts. I didn`t even know that there was a boost function when I played though it the first time back in the days.

nostalgia filter is strong though, even back then i thought the framerate and choppiness were horrendous...

I still have my N64 cartridge after all these years. It sits on my shelf next to Shadows of the Empire and Rogue Squadron.

Same Here! Rogue Squadron was also amazing and we need a remaster of that game as well!

I was 7 when Episode 1 came out. Some of my favorite toys were the MicroMachines podracers. I would stage races as part of tournaments and keep standings. Multiple planets and courses depending on where I was, and taking cues from the games, roleplaying guides, etc. to increase "realism". Great memories. Still have every pod, too!

We need more remastered games. Especially when it comes to Star Wars. People will buy them!

I used to play this game back when I was a kid only when windows 95/98 was around. Old fun times.

would love a new Pod Racer that can be online. Your upgrades/stats determine the Class you race in i.e. S, A,B,C,D. Customization on how your pod looks would be fun as well. Also would be nice to spectate and bet on the races. Like in FF7.

A new version of this game is literally all I want in life

I was 7 when The Phantom Menace came out and I definitely remember the Podrace scene being the highlight of the movie and we'd talk about the various Podracers. That Christmas I even got the Lego Star Wars Pod Racer Set and was the envy of all my friends. I think that set is what cemented Gasgano as my favorite racer. I didn't have the Episode I Racer because I didn't have an N64, but I did have a friend who had it and we played it at his house.

I 10,000% agree. We need a 2nd pod racing game. When’s the last time we had a fun Star Wars game like this? Never. I would say rogue squadron but we just got the new Squadrons game. But we need a pod racing game, character creator etc. it would be amazing. We have plenty of normal racing games but they should make a Star Wars racer game that includes like speeder bikes, pod racers, ship racing, etc. that would be absolutely amazing.

We still have our N64 cartridge and I would still play occasionally, even after 20 years. I'm so glad I can play this on the Switch now.

I grew up on this game

I played it back then on PC on 1280X1024 (which is literally HD) and I loved it! I really love how the physics feel in this game. the fact you can pull up the nose to glide, the amazing animations that sell the physics so well, the controls. I wonder how much of the movement was physics and how much is pure fakery.

I LOVE this game! I have been wishing to play it in HD for years! Finally! Now we need an updated REAL remaster!

Obviously a proper remaster would be amazing, but my biggest gripe with this release is the draw distance. Still grateful to be able to relive my childhood with this one - Sunday morning pancakes with Pink Floyd and racing. Thanks for this video :)

I had played it on my N64 when I was little, and boy... I WAS A BEAST in there. Breaking lap records, dominating the racing world, and making a certain other Podracer *cough*Sebulba*cough* a little bit salty, LOL Seeing this game available to purchase on PS4 made my inner child squeal with excitement. I had immediately bought it the moment I saw the trailer on Playstation and had a blast playing it! Even the Cheat Codes for this game STILL WORKS!

Where my revenge of the Sith ps2 remasterd for pc switch and ps4 and xbox

I still have the cd for this but it's all scratched up pretty bad.. I spent sooooo mant hours on this when I was younger. The sense of speed this game and the level design were amazing , the cut scenes were nice too. Totally deserves a full remake

I kinda wish they made a spin off movie about pod racing...

You can boost. Hold the thumbstick up then click A (on Xbox)

3:58 personally, I extremely enjoyed the sequel as much as I enjoyed the first, especially the better interactions against other AI and being able to destroy other Podracers so I never really understood the dislikes (especially the Unique Sound effects of the Podracers). I do hope we get a new Podracing game sometime down the future though ♥️

I liked that too, although it was harder to rack up credits because I believe you had to destroy X number of podracers while racing - and the AI was relentless in hugging any lead you had compared to the first game.

Imagine a proper remaster of this game and even a VR version!

Podracer was awesome. The soundtrack stays always in my head. I'm also not a fan of racing games usually but it's totally different from the typical racing game cause of the many different variations which are added (gravity, crushing mini asteroids and other race affecting circumstances). Love it

I used to play this all the time on the n64, loved playing it. Nice to see it returning.

Having played it on my Switch Lite, it still looks nice despite being 20 years old. There are games on the Wii as well as the newer consoles that look way worse. But I would like to see a new Podracer in PS5/XSX. Imagine with the cross play too.

It's pretty strange that we haven't seen any new star wars pod racer in the past 20 years :O

The thing about Star Wars that makes it unique is there are SO MANY different games you can make. You can have MMORPG’s, 3rd Person Action games based on Jedi, Smugglers, Bounty Hunters. Squad based tactical commando games. Podracing games. It’s weird that games have halted as much as they have for this franchise.

I remember using game breaking mechanics to launch my pod racer thru the sky. It was so fun

Had the NES, SNES in my childhood, N64 in high school. Lots of friends. Played outside. Probably the last great era to be a grow up in.

I played SO many hours of this game when it was still new. Of course due to a weird quirk of our TV at the time, I had no sound when playing the N64 games(So it made the forest in LoZ: OoT fun when you can't hear the singing), so I would also play CDs in the stereo while playing. So of course, lots of memories of racing my Podracer while listening to Ace of Base

Imagine a new pod racing game where you can race other.playets, customize your pod and character, add logos. And much more, that would be amazing

I remember beating this when I was 12 or 13 and unlocking sebulba, it was such an epic reward was not expecting it. And I jumped for joy!

As much as I like this version, the features I miss the most are motion controllers,and more than 3 tracks versus 7 original. We ARE enjoying it, but coming from the Grand Prix Legends Sierra game ear, and 3dfx video cards with sister boards. To play high quality games in 1998, that's what it took. That and a 30" box fan on high. As a beta-team member on GPL, I know what it takes to write a quality game. Good jobs guys !! @70 it don't take much.

I literally JUST got the original a couple days back. And man its a blast. Now that theres a remaster, I think I'm gonna get that too.

This was always my favorite game. I would always give my dad a run for his money and my brothers could never keep up. I was always playing it and I just enjoyed it. Nothing beats it as a game. I loved it growing up and I still wish the N64 we had worked. Shame it had to break.

This is my most favourite Star Wars game I used to play! I was bad at it, but I still loved it! I actually found the PS4 remastered in one of those cheap game bins at Walmart. So glad I found it!

Day 1 purchase for me for a Pod Racer REMASTER. I would love to see the Rogue Squadron from GameCube series brought back or remastered!

Though it probably wasn't a thing at release, the version I bought on GOG supports resolutions of up to 1080p.

I played Pod Racer back in 1999 and I have just bought it on Steam YESTERDAY ( before seeing this video ). In it's time it was one of the best racing games available on PC if not the best. The sensation of speed that it generated was incredible and for me I found it the first racing game I had played where you actually had to learn a track and when to brake. Previous games I had played you could just mash the accelerator and steer and pretty much come first every time. I played it for an hour or two yesterday and I still love it. I love it so much that I even emailed Lucas Arts to see if they would do a sequel to it for VR . That sensation of speed with tracked controllers for the cockpit and controls would be amazing. With a modern engine the visuals could be stunning ( even on a Rift S which is what I have ). I suggested they set the game post Episode 9 in a galaxy where Pod Racing is an activity which a fractured galaxy uses to regain a sense of unity and to bring people together again. Sadly Disney/LA policy is to not accept ideas from outsiders ( I got the reply today ). But yea, I am a big pod-racer fan. Can you tell?

If they did an official remaster to the quality of the fan game it would be easy money. This game was such an instant classic!

I came to this video right after having a dream realizing the game I dreamed about doesn't exist... I was so hyped lol

This Remaster is a complete joke. They didn't even bother making the HUD a higher resolution. It's just the same 20 year old game ported to Switch/PS4

We need to start a Social Media campaign to get a new Podracer game made.

I never played this back in the day, but just picked up the star wars heritage pack which has this on... Really helpful review, thank you! Looking forward to finally giving this game a try 😄

.....after reading all the comments I reckon Disney should make a film that is pure pod racing! They could even make it like it was a formula 1 documentary about the life of one person who climbs the tournaments to become the galaxy's best racer. It would be banging and it would of course have an accompanying game to go with it.

In universal Islands of adventure there was an arcade with 8 of these in a row and all were different, Anakins Sebulba's etc

i definitely remember the arcade game and the other star wars arcade game with the joystick.

When you're taking about Modern Warfare and that, your talking about REMAKES. A remaster is what this game is.

Just played trough it again after 20 years, such a fun game!

It’s finally on Xbox! Picked it up and have been enjoying the game ever since. I played it originally on the N64 and back when games had massive staying power, this was my go-to for years afterward. Yeah, I wouldn’t mind a proper remaster, but it’s just as fun now as it was 24 years ago.

Thanks for making me buy and play the ps4 remaster all in one session. Now I feel better.

If they did it would want heaps more features to attract people like custom pods and a proper online system to make it last awhile. Pretty much I want forza horizon in podracing

I first played this in about 2003 on a beige compaq presario I 'modified' at 13 with some ram I got out of another PC and a better processor. Great game, I loved the upgrade syestem, Gonna have to find this remake

When Episode 1 was playing in cinemas, little me didn't care about the politics or the midichlorians. Podracing captured my imagination like nothing else had. To me, Star Wars was a movie about podracing with some flashy swords and boring meetings thrown in. And this game let me live it in glorious 30fps and 800x600 resolution.

I would definitely pay money for a modern console and PC version of this game that also includes Swoops and Speeder Bike racing as well.

Imagine the different vehiecle sounds around you. Like Wipeout HD Fury. Or Omega collection

yeah that game was and still OP. Not a fan of racing games, but played this game lot.

I loved this game as a kid (like everyone else here) and after seeing the potential for a re-master, I absolutely think it needs the triple A treatment (also, like everyone else here!) I really feel that EA could fart out a pretty-decent pod racing game after 6 months - I really want to feel the weight and the sound of these machines.

I recently bought an N64 with Star Wars Episode 1 Racer. It is epic.

I still play this game. And I would definitely like to play it with this insane graphics or even better ones.

I still own and love the old PC game - wouldn't be able to recall how many hours I've spent racing 🤣🤣🤣🤣 The environments were great, the tracks well thought through, and it's just a ton of fun. Took me a while to get it running on win10 though....

They could've at least remaster the HUD too...
