Great overview of a fascinating island. I actually spent the better part of a week on the island with a group of ham radio operators. One of our members was up on a tower erecting an antenna when the tower fell. He was broke his femur and was injured enough that he had to be evacuated by helicopter. And I came close to drowning while rowing out to the fishing boat that would take me back to Bay St. Lawrence. An unforgiving place best viewed from an offshore boat. Thanks for bringing back memories.

I was born and raised on cape Breton. I fished on 50 foot stern trawlers, in around 1994 we were fishing not far west of St. Paul, we would fish around the clock long days and nights , after a couple days we steamed in real close to about the middle of the west side to get a good nights sleep . We dropped the anchor about 10 pm .had something to eat , the captain and my cousin went out like a light snoring .i was over tired and couldn’t sleep , I was still up around 1 am sitting on deck drinking tea and smoking, we were about 150 or 200 yard or so from the island it’s very deep there .quiet you could hear a pin drop.then I heard a loud screeching sound from the island , I knew all the sea bird sounds but this was something I never heard before it was sort of a half bird half human sound if that makes any sense. the creepiest sound I ever herd in my life . I hunted on cape Breton for years and never heard that there either . to this day I don’t know what it was , I’ll never forget that sound . it screeched on and off till i finally went to bunk and fell asleep, very strange. living in Ontario now .

Fun video, great accommodations, and great info about the mysterious island. Still constantly amazed at the drone footage you get in such windy conditions. Keep 'em coming and we'll be back someday!

Wow such a fascinating place. Those cliffs are awesome and you can see all the hurricane damage in some of those drone shots. It's good all those buildings survived, I don't know how!

So I'm curious. Why are you not allowed on the island? I have always thought of sea kayaking out there, but that plan may now have changed. As for the video, thanks for sharing

I think it's to do with the how dangerous it is. You can get permission from the coast guard and go. That would be one wild expedition in those choppy waters!
