I also had moments of "wait, this isn't a _Sonic_ game!" But also, charging a spin dash absolutely could have been used as the animation for revving your engine in place, like at the start of a race.

Finally a mod that doesn't use the smash animations that look horrible from behind

Thank you for showcasing my mod! Edit: For anyone seeing this in the future, I agree with most of your comments about animations he should have, but unfortunately I'm limited by what's hard-coded in MK8D. I've tried making a version over characters as they have a lot more animations, but ran into hard-coded issues there as well. Ultimately, this was the best solution.

Reminds me of the old flash animation of Sonic racing against Jet the Hawk. Jet knocks Sonic off his hoverboard and laughs thinking he's won, then Sonic starts running backwards faster than Jet can hover all while flipping him off.

If you think about it, every game has almost their independent story and most Kart games seem to be just because it's fun to race, it seems almost like a meta joke where the characters actually win money as if they're actors of their own games I mean, Wario has a mountain, Daisy has a cruise, Rosalina has a planet, Waluigi has an entire giant pinball table lol

This already looks really cool, but I have some notes. Don't want anyone to think I'm hating or something, I just have some constructive criticism. He still makes car noises and there are still effects that don't really make sense, like the light blue glow of the antigrav wheels, or the wind effect around the tires. It would also be cool if the drift sparks were closer to his feet, and if the propeller were attached to something, instead of just floating behind him as he floats. It would be cool to see him hold the items too instead of them floating next to him. It would be cool if he had a custom icon and name as well, since he's not Metal Mario. Finally, I think the idle animations look kinda jittery. Overall though, I'm still really impressed with this mod.

I've had the same complaints, unfortunately, I'm limited by what karts can have in 8D. Especially on effects and propellers as they're shared by other vehicles in the game

​@@adriellightvale8140Boost was already replaced in the mod. Both max boost and mini turbo sounds are unique using Unleashed sound effects. The others can be replaced, but sadly would affect the other characters and vehicles in the game.

I could see the small hop from colours when you are going into the drift, as well as the air boost from Unleashed for gliding. Would've been funny if you got goggles for the underwater section.

honestly looking at unleashed sonic without any sort of slope physics is weirdly unsettling

So basically every track is now a sonic stage lol

It would have been so cool if every time he did a trick, he would do SA1 or Heros pose instead on spinning like he usually does

this is the best looking sonic game i've seen, and it's not even a real game. I wonder why Sega never attempted to make an _accessible_ 3D Sonic game with friendly, saturated and "cartoon-y" colors and environments, with amazing-looking graphics like MK8. All Sonic games I've played (except for Black Knight) aren't friendly to new or young gamers like Mario games are. I kept thinking why Sonic wouldn't jump in this video, bc that's how amazing and believable this mod looks! If only Sega tried making a game as gorgeous-looking as this, that is fun and accessible to all ages, and at the same time has an advanced layer of depth for us OG Sonic fans, I bet the sales would instantly soar :)

Can’t really agree on this. There’s a whole reason why sumo avoided putting sonic on foot in their racing games since it looked clunky during test. And it would’ve been more troubling with the team mechanic and the tracks being designed for kart racing.

Can you imagine an open world Sonic game where he accelerates and moves like a go kart? And then on top of that could jump and launch himself so far! And his spin dash speeds him like a mushroom! I’m sure it might be wonky, but with good design it could allow for crazy drifty open movement and also very tight and controlled smaller movements for platforming.
