    Excellent analysis, in particular the Mark Williams break makes a lot more sense to me now . For me it was Hendry that changed snooker , opening up the reds at the first given opportunity clearly influenced the younger generation. You are obviously a talented player yourself, having looked through the comments I can see that you compete at a high amateur level . Hope the channel or some sponsorship will help you at least have a shot at turning pro .

    I definitely don't understand why some people think that exhibition shots are disrespectful. I mean, they play these shots when the frame is secured, the century break is done (or can't be reached) and the maximum break isn't possible. So make the crowd happy! The green ball from Judd, what a gem:)

    I lost in the final of a national amateur championship a few years ago. But I practice against a few people or I at least I usually do. Who are nearly making it onto the main tour. Or have made it on only to drop off again. Sometimes if I’m doing alright and their having a bad day I beat them. But most of the time I’m just picking balls out for them. I tend to do a little bit better in tournaments against that standard of player as I do better under pressure most of the time. Our County has a local championship and I might be champion of that now if but the virus hit and the final got cancelled. Don’t even know if it is still going to be played yet. My main problem is I can’t find a flexible enough job to allow me to play in enough events and since a lot of local clubs have shut that’s just made it worse. Hopefully this channel could change that a bit as I’m already making more from this than my job. Will have to make a decision on all of that when the pandemic ends.

    @@Breakfromlife It would be great if you could make some more money from this channel and make a living out of it. You're proving over and over again you're a great content creator. Snooker lovers truly appreciate the effort you put in and you have a what it takes to "tell a story", like a professional journalist. Lot's of guys are filming their shots on their own table in a shed, what sets you apart is the style and content. The level of journalism is great, now you need to step up your game and improve the production quality. Great video as always. Would love to see you do one on just how much the change in tables has changed the game and driven higher standards. Like how much harder would the game become if you were to play on the sorts of tables and cloths that used to be common in, say, Ray Reardon's time. Plus maybe a look at footage, see how the pack splits now, and how cushions react, compared to back then.

    O'sullivan and trumppushing it further. 'Exebition' shots were once seen as an insult apparently which is a shame, how can you screw your nose up at greatness? In any other art, being able to use your weak hand is a massive advantage, and utilising complex shots is simpy a higher level of the game. Were the harem globetrotters an insult to basketball or merely better at handling a basketball?

  • @randommadness1021

    @randommadness1021

    @@mcfudgers2202 not really a good comparison. The Globetrotters didn't play professional and were just a "circus act". They played the same team in every game and broke the rules every 3 minutes. I see what you were trying to say, but you just picked the wrong comparison. In football, anyone who "took the piss" out of opposition used to be seen as "un-sportmanship" and would be expected to get kicked up in the air by the players they took the piss out of. These days, players are much more protected and will get red cards for tackles that wouldn't even be a foul in the old game.

    I think Jimmy White regularly played exhibition shots as soon as a frame was safe, which is one reason he didn't make a huge number of centuries for someone as good as he was. He often played outrageous shots to keep a break going and usually had more than anyone else in the Shot of the Tournament compilation. If you defined "best ever" as the player with the ability to play shots no one else before or since could, rather than the one best at winning tournaments, then you could argue it was him.

With more players taking on the longer shot and power shots from a baulk colour to get to a red; will the future of snooker come back full circle when players will be put into tough a difficult snooker and fail to escape due to the lack of practice and game opportunities to use this skill? One thing I would point out is the small split, that particularly Mark Selby and Ken Doherty seem to do a lot. A shot in which you open the reds way more carefully, maybe getting three or four of them out of the bunch at a time. O'Sullivan also often does it, and many of his maximum breaks contain this element.

    1:48 instead of putting bags of right hand side on break off shot, they should experiment with just lightly thinning off the pack and moving cueball straight back up without disturbing the pack much at all. You sacrifice getting cueball behind colours in bulk but you never leave anything on

    @@Breakfromlife I do it at my club. leaving opponent on side cushion is actually more difficult for them, than leaving them on top cushion.

    I so enjoyed this. I watched the Ding shot 3 times. Did u ever see Mountjoy perfect break? 2 reds bounced of side and bottom cushion and went back into the triangle!!
