I'm retiring from the Trowel after 50 years. Your love of the Job and Honesty do you a credit. Some say you're 'Gobby' but from what I've seen on your videos, you can back it up. Best of luck with the work and your new arrival. That's what we all work out in the Muck and rain for.

You are on the best rates ive heard of around our area Charlie. Average for cambs herts is about £600-650 and £16 per meter Are the houses a ball ache to build or something?
Interlock and perp them up in Scotland depends who u building for out the big 5 up here Cala Taylor whimpey persimmon barrett dandara but we mostly use the other trench block in foundations
I swear it's a requirement to have the same high fade and shit neck tattoo as every other mungo on a site to be allowed on
Used those trench loads. They're meant to be interlocked if you read the paperwork. They're made at 440 though so they're shit for bond.
Awesome 😎
How is your payment worked out? Does someone come out and check your work? Do you tell them a number and they take your word for it? Is it worked out before hand how many bricks you'll place at a certain point/ by the end of the job?
12,££ threw the wall back in the 80/90 and they did nt you anymore for piers or soldiers over lintels, nothing extra was a struggle to earn a decent wage.day rate £67.50 . That’s why you see a lot of 80/90 estate brickwork looks like dog shit every fukker was slashing them down. Lot of lads lost thier homes mortgage repossessions, they would fight for weekend work. One day we had to lift about 20 special stone lintels on with the telehandler think we earn about £15 each that day, I was gone , trowel in bucket gone

Is that Hopkins site over the back of Halstead woods
I was a hody for years loved it that was 50 years ago money was hard to earn
I did bricklaying from leaving school 20 years ago. Back when I was an apprentice it was 500 a thousand then so considering how much house prices have rose you should be getting a lot more. That's why I left the trade and never looked back. Body not in pieces earning more and don't get rained off. Miss the crack but bills get paid

Great vids charlie showing how it really is, goes from great pay to shite in no time 👍
Carpenter of 40yrs, I would advise any young guy to set out on their own when you feel the time is right, I wish I had done it sooner, no point wrecking your body to get a decent wage every week for employers who constantly move the goalposts and who could not give a toss, only got one back and a pair of knees.
Always been told to perp them from foremen
They keep dropping the prices
and there is the reality of being self employed.

There are brickies who can set out n have the drawings in the bucket n the ones that just lay bricks
Always interlock as they’ve been designed that way defeats the design and stress performance by buttering perps.

The money you can earn is heartbreaking to hear for me as a scaffolder
Rates are shocking, but making it pay still. Lads arnt up to it so are struggling.
So you brickies are busting a gut for £200-£300 a day depending on the rates?
Makes more out of KZread then bricklaying I reckon
Okin ell mate 700 a thousand bullocks Australia its $3 or 1550 pounds a thousand those prices we'd go broke on that here . say you got 2 trowels and a labourer you both lay 500 each that's 1000 pounds take out wages 250 250 150 that leaves 350 king Charles will tax that too = bullocks on toast

@@markadler8968 that makes sense, its a shame with the costs of living rising globally. I did my apprenticeship with poms. I would hate being on crappy rates and competing against many.. You would have to really bring the A game to keep afloat. I got a pommy friend here he *is a chippy hires mostly backpackers from UK gets the lads vans and lifts to work.. Has Appox 70 workers from 2016 to now he made millions paid off houses ..
The rates you guys are getting paid is ridiculously low. In Vancouver Canada where I live you can easily get $20 CDN a square foot for installing brick which amounts to $3.33 per brick or $3330 CDN per thousand which equals roughly $2000 Pound Sterling for 1000 bricks laid. That includes the labor only and does not include any of the materials whatsoever. Some contractors are getting $30+ CDN a square foot. How can you make money at those rates is beyond my understanding.

It's more about supply and demand. If there are fewer bricklayers, generally there is more demand and higher rates. If bricklayers in the UK got smart, they would band together and keep rates up as a group. Instead there are brickies who do work for half nothing driving rates down.
