@Clyde Pearce I used to be a Lew's guy and I used high end Lew's like the TP1 pros for 250$ and I had 4 of them. THEN I used a Shimano Curado K and it was smoother and 100$ less than the Lew's I was using. THEN I tried the slx line and they make Lew's 100$ reels feel like toys. Shimano sets the bar my friend.

I just got into reel fishing the past 2 years other wise ive been a big bowfisherman. Ive been shooting bows since 6 years old. Shooting carp but . It has gotten so popular that all my old spot are shot out or dnr poisen lots of lakes here in mn . The dnr here have fucked so many lakes up trying to keep carp out but. When they poison the lakes they kill game fish, turles, an much more. They say land of ten thousand lakes but its more like lake of ten thousand ponds.

@@jasonacosta6570 I haven't tried the SLX but I am impressed with the SLX XT so far. I know on Reel Test he compared the SLX to the SLX XT and the SLX XT definitely outcast the base model. The SVS infinity braking is worth the extra money in my opinion. And frankly, if you are looking to buy a new set up you should go on American Legacy. I picked up the SLX Rod and the SLX XT reel combo for 149.00. Normally you would be looking at 229.00 or so if you were to buy them individually. For that price you don't get cheap, you bet value at an inexpensive price. I fished 5 hours with them on Sunday and the medium heavy had no problem handling a 3lb largemouth. Great Tip for the price range with plenty of back bone. Honestly, I have a 250.00 dollar set up that fishes only slightly better than that SLX/XT combo. First thing you'll notice btw way is that the reel is solid and there is no twist to it when fighting the fish. I was casting 15lb flouro and once I got it dialed in it casted like a breeze and with the SVS you can easily tweak it on the fly without having to open the side plate and mess with the brakes. BTW, if you get one I would recommend popping two up and two down on the internal brakes. You can easily adjust it with the SVS after that. BTW, kudos to LadyBass. I have the DC and I would say her review was spot on. However, I would add that if you are an experienced caster the DC may not add that much for you unless you are really into bombing your baits. Also, the DC doesn't do quite as well with lighter baits, especially if there is wind. I just moved my Curado DC from a medium crank bait rod where I was casting some small crank baits to a medium heavy where I can do some skipping and cast a little heavier weights. It really, really shines there, especially if you like skipping, use setting 4. Good luck and tight lines!

So I am new to using a baitcaster and just bought this reel yesterday! I have seen videos about feathering the spool but I’m not sure I am understanding how much I need to do that. If the brake is set up correctly and I set the tension properly can I keep my thumb off till it’s getting close to hitting the water? I’m still learning to cast it and haven’t gotten it out on the water yet but I’m excited!

@@theman.6396 Idk if it cast farther but , it cast just as far with less effort. Due to magforce Z , compared to the friction style brakes of the Slx reels. Plus the ergonomics of the Slx and Curado k thumbar sucks imo.

idk why but the line size bother me is that 50 pound line? if it bass youre fishing then 10 pound would be fine and much more capacity i fish snakeheads using 10lb line no prob even 10kg micropeltes lose to 4lb line using ul rod...theres a video on youtube ...

Could you please explain why you (and other freshwater fishing channels) choose the baitcaster reels sometimes and the spinner reels other times? I've only used spinner reels in fresh water and prefer them in salt water unless I'm trolling.

Bait casters you can feel the bite way better whennyou press your thumb on the string. I always used spinner reals till i got my bait casters. Took a little bit to get used to. Like casting an controlling how much goes out but the casting the feel an.the touchyness is insane. Makes a diffrnece. Buy one get to know an love it annits hard to go back. Lol

ngneer999 bait casters tend to handle heavier larger baits better and handle fishing in heavy cover better. You can use a heavier spinning setup but it’s really personal preference.

They slow down/stop the spool from spinning freely when the bails open.

How do i know which brakes to start using. Not quite sure how to set it up

So best bet is to start with half of them out! If you feel like you can get more distance and your spool isnt overrunning, take a brake or two off! If the spool is over running then put another brake on. After a while you will get a feel for the reel and how much thumb pressure you need!

Thats the spool tension knob. The rule of thumb is to tighten that up until your bait starts to slowly fall!

It's a great video but you MUST put a disclaimer. You have Shimano shirt and cap while you are talking about Shimano reel... I am sorry but its more than an advertisement. SLX XT ,Brake system is not carbon but plastic KKKKK , the plastic auger also like those from Aldebaram and the new metanium2020 KKKKKK. That's why I don't have Shimano. They want to save money and put plastic and then the fisherman wants to have a Shimano, if he knew the plastic that comes in it, it's not worth the price, pieces that will last a short time. SHIMANO INSTEAD XE EVOLVING IS WALKING BACKWARDS, NUT ECONOMY

Qaze0 Qaze0 you could be right but I have had Lew’s and wasn’t impressed, they are not junk but they are Korean made reel produced by Doyo and that company also produces Abu Low profile reels Pflueger and BPS reels. Shimano and Daiwa are the only reels companies that still build their own reels.

Affordable? That's not affordable to the average working Joe.. Your too use to that 2,3,4 hundred dollar sponsor gear. Most of my rod and reel combos come to 100 or less. And catch plenty of fish I mite add.
