I’m glad classic dex is still here it just the interface of it being win 10 pc classic makes it ideal. Don’t change it if it’s not broken

The problem with new Dex is the wasted space at the top. Now at the top there is the bar that shows time and notification icons (this is not in classic dex) and then there is the big fat bar that shows minimize, split screen, pop up options. It looks okay because he is using a S9 Ultra but in smaller S9 and S9+ , this bar takes up a lot of usable space. So, I prefer the classic Dex over this.

You also lose the ability to use another display as a second screen. The new dex only allows screen mirroring. I'm surprised he didn't mention that. I prefer the classic and will be sticking to it.

The only problem with the new DeX is that when using an external monitor, it's only mirroring the tablet screen. With the classic DeX, you can run the whole shebang in 4K plus use your tablet screen at the same time... I hope Samsung has some plans for this new version of DeX like full external monitor support...

ya and even after going back to classic dex, now I can't use my mouse on both screens? unless I can't find the right setting, I can now only use my mouse on the external display running dex

Samsung is doing well keeping and grooming Dex. With the improvements on Chips, always more powerful and less power consuming, next thing we know we have a legit contender in the OS space no one saw coming

This is what makes Samsung devices better than Apple.

The lack of real pro Apps is what is killing the Samsung tablets and don’t get me wrong Dex is really cool but without any real pro apps like full photoshop and DaVinci resolve an iPad or MacBook is still better

I literally spent Sunday and Monday after work getting my kids iPad and iPhone to upgrade back to family share. Keyword is back to. Do you realize if you don’t have storage you can’t get emails or verification pins or pay for your subscriptions. Both customer service representatives were floored when we couldn’t airdrop family invites and they screen share to see for themselves. Now you telling me Apple is better bro stop the cap. The whole purpose of Apple is flawless software experience that’s #1 BS. All my issues have been with our Apple devices and yes I have a iPhone and iPad myself, so don’t try of he’s a hater. The when it’s just facts Apple isn’t all that great it’s just trendy.

Samsung really needs to promote DeX. But this new DeX should be tablet by default. Classic should be for DeX to change tablet and phones to Desktop mode.

After watching another vid i think someone else said they think thats future plans is this may be a test for making it default ui for tabs id like if it was for phone and tablet honestly no more multi window pop out view. Just make them like pc with default windowed screens.

I mean, who was complaining that dex took too long to launch? I feel like this is hyping up a feature nobody asked for. Like another person said here, id rather have a full desktop experience thats different from the tablet mode when i switch to dex.

The new dex removes a ton of features as well. And it's automatically defaulted on so new customers are never going to find the classic version. This is bad news as far as I'm concerned

Hello saki, when I enable Dex mode on ONE UI 6, I can no longer use back gesture. Swiping from side of the screen does nothing. The only to enable back button function is via the classic 3 button bottom task car. How to use back button without the task bar?

What's the difference between the new dex and the normal interface?

Our Devices are now Micro computers, they are no longer Smart phones. The Docks that we are using have a faster rate than a traditional PCI port in a conputer. The Docks are equal to PCI Slot expander. Only much faster in data transmission.

It looks nice, but the window management is much worse than in classic dex.

In the new DEX, how do I go "back"? Swiping on the screen edges doesn't work anymore.

I still think this "new" dex is not ready yet. The full screen experience is not good. The window bar looks too thick, and also covering the top side for some the apps (Discord fo example). Sofar I can't find any manual fix to this. I hope this will be fixed in the next update. For now I will still stick to the classic dex

Great video thanks for sharing. The only issue I have with this update is that when conencted to an external monitor I used to get Dex on the monitor and my normal tablet mode on the tablet itself. This has all changed or is there something I need to change in settings?

That is not really Dex, that is Samsung's version of Apple's Stage Manager. For real Dex you have to long press on the Dex button to go into its settings and select Classic.

Notifications do not come when the screen is off, how did you solve it?

The update causes all apps open in window, even when you switch back to classic dex. When you make apps full screen, the top of the app have issues responding to mouse commands. Example Microsoft RDP has issues in full screen mode now. Asphalt 9 opens in window mode instead of full screen.

I thought the idea of DEX was to give a laptop experience to an Android tablet? This seems to be similar to the problem of getting a browser that has all the functions of a PC browser on an Android tablet, let's face it, a tablet as capable as a Samsung S8 / S9 demands a PC-quality browser, not some mobile browser pretender! Likewise, when I use DEX I want a laptop experience, not something else!

When connecting to a TV via HDMI the new Samsung Dex mode has a different aspect ratio and it does not fill the whole screen while the classic Dex mode does. 🤔🤔

After connecting, go to settings, samsung dex, display resolution on the connected monitor and see if you can change the resolution to fit the aspect ratio.

I use Windows w/dual monitor currently. I would eliminate that machine in a heartbeat if they would add dual monitor support in DEX (not counting the tablet as one of the monitors). I thought it might work by adding a USB Video Adapter but no go :-(

Now, let's see Dex on a Samsung TV, any Smart TV, connected by an HDMI cable! Will it fill the whole screen of the TV, or partially? Can you play various apps/games from the Google Market smoothly through the tablet/TV interface?

And this bigger title bar and notification bar making we lose screen area. They sould give options to personalize this.

I'm struggling with new Dex. I love the look and the speed but I can't get sound to work when connected to an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

Check the sound output settings It might be sending the sound to the external monitor, maybe even if it doesn't have speakers.

No it's end of life; there are no more os or security patches. The final version is: Andriod 12/oneui 4.1

Personally I prefer the old dex. And they have slowed that one down.

I don't like it, no external monitor support, no keyboard shortcuts for Windows placement. You can't use a third party launcher before you go into it. And the worst part is because it's the default setting classic dex will probably end up being abandoned. The vast majority of new customers will never discover classic dex.

Does anyone know why my S8+ tab still stuck on 5.9 ? No update until now.

new dex is not compatible with wqhd resolution

As a lot of people are saying, the old Dex is definitely better, lol. The new Dex seems like a modified tablet version because they are making use of the taskbar that's available for tablets running Android 13 and above.

Not really a desktop mode what Dex is suppose to be. It is more a tablet mouse mode without a lot of the features of real Dex. Instead of calling it new dex and calling the real Dex "classic" (sounds like its depricated), this new thing should have been called Dex light.

I hate the new UI - at least as far as tablets are concerned!! Like @aone7640, I'm glad that classic is still an option. The classic DeX is much more desktop-like and a way better user experience IMO! With the new, it's awkward to put icons on your home screen. You have to do it when the app is launched and from the taskbar. You can't from the all apps view?! Other things like - how do you organize icons in the all apps view - tapping and holding launches the app, ONLY?! You can't move them into folders etc. The new UI is really useless for me. It seems all it gives you is a taskbar and windowed apps - OH and it cuts off some screen real estate as well, that classic gives us (you can't move an app right to the left or right side of the screen). BOO. 😑 I hope classic is around for a while, or DeX will not be used by me and nor may tablet as much.

Dex is over. Instead of adding new features they destroy it. It never be close to Mac or windows there is a lot of simple features missing. I was using it as my main pc at home and you cannot use it as your pc at home . I waited too long for Samsung to malenie better every year. Developers don’t care about dex to create app for it. There is no games for android like apple now. They could do it for years and nothing. It is waist of time. Came back to apple.
