Exactly. I'm willing to be convinced that I'm wrong, with evidence and a solid argument. If Republicans could stand up and prove empirically, with evidence, that having a gun in every household actually does make people safer, I would absolutely change my position on gun control. However since all their arguments are based either in lies, misconceptions, or outright manipulations of data, it's not actually possible for them to convince people using facts, because the facts are never on their side.

Senate passed Trump's military budget increase ($80 Billion extra) by 93 votes to 7, 6 republicans voted against it, and one independent (Bernie). 100% democrats votes yes! A desire for more personal responsibility and private enterprise has turned into a culture of deregulation, which is now Hustle Culture, and "personal responsibility" has been warped into "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" and the demonization of people who have been systematically prevented from doing so (minorities), which has led to immigrant-blaming and now full on racism whenever anything bad happens. The Republicans have moved in a downward spiral and moved further and further Right, with tax cuts for the rich, deregulation, science denial, and hatred of minorities/gays/women overriding everything else as first the Tea Party and then Donald Trump took hold of the party, with the latter going so far as to become President. The Democrats response? Was it to double down on Leftist policies that would actually help people, like Medicare For All and more protections for labor unions? Nope. It was to allow the very idea of being on the political Left to be practically suicidal--to the point where "Leftist" is considered an insult whereas "Right winger" isn't--while trying to convince the Republicans that they were TOTALLY strong right wingers too. With the Clinton Administration and to this day, the Democrats have voted for wars and corporate bailouts. Joe Biden has bragged about have proposed to cut Social Security something like 6 times. Bill Clinton vowed to end welfare as we know it. Democrats were against gay marriage but in favor of gay civil unions well into the Obama Administration (and Obama himself only came out in favor of gay marriage after a majority of the country already was. Prior to that, he was on camera claiming to be against gay marriage). The Democratic establishment has distanced itself or outright opposes Medicare For All, Universal Basic Income, and police reform. MSNBC fearmongers a Bernie Sanders presidency more than Fox News does, and NO ONE out-fearmongers Fox News on anything. The Democrats have kept popular truly radical and/or Leftist members of the party from having a real voice in the DNC, including AOC and Andrew Yang. To this day, they still spread a deranged conspiracy theory about Tulsi Gabbard being a Russian asset and dismiss her anti-war stance. In short, the Republicans have allowed themselves to move to the Right to the point where the extremists have taken over not just the party, but the entire country. Meanwhile, Democrats have cowered at the very thought of being called "Leftists" and have instead tried to put themselves as part of the moderate Right, which to the current crop of the deranged alt-right Republicans is indistinguishable from "Radical Socialism". The Democrats need to let the Squad, Bernie Sanders, Andrew Yang, and Tulsi Gabbard take the reigns of the party and defend Leftist ideology and policies, and drag the Republicans and the country kicking and screaming away from the far Right extremism it centers around now.

They stopped fighting for working peeps a long time ago, went right during Bill Clinton's terms, NAFTA, de-regulation of banking, cutting safety nets for the poor, expanding prison populations, de-regulation of FCC--all Republican issues. It's no secret that me and Bill Maher might not agree on everything but on this topic he's right on the money

Until 2016 I was still willing to forgive people for their level of ignorance and cruelty from the Republican Party. I will never trust another Republican as long as I live. And I never want to hear them complain about the morals of the Democratic Party until they clean up their own party. I am extremely disappointed to see that Mitch McConnell has made it back into the Senate.

Rhett Cujo What about the fact that the Left believes in science when it comes to climate change, but rejects science when it’s comes to gender. Bill made Republicans look bad because he focusing on the bad they do, but he could also make Democrats look bad with what I just said above. He also could talk about Democrats identity politics, health care for illegals, etc. And don’t get me started on the welfare state!

Great closing, Bill! So true. Anyone who says both parties are equally to blame I just walk away from. It shows you haven’t been paying attention to anything and are just saying something to appear in the game or to justify why you aren’t. Democrats are flawed in ways, but we are not corrupt in the sense of thinking that the rules simply don’t apply to us. That is simply dangerous and it’s also hypocritical for a party that touts themselves as the “Law and Order Party”. They simply change the rules when up against something they don’t like, which requires lying with everything they have and then move on as if nothing was just destroyed and accuse Dems of doing what they just did. Republicans are evil, and THEY are the cause of the state of our politics and country and it will take yet another Democrat to fix a mess. Only, Republicans will probably successfully claim they fixed it and Dems caused it and their moronic followers will believe them.

I would like to call myself non-partisan because I really do look at candidates based on their policies not their party, yet even putting real research into everyone running in my area, I still found myself voting a straight Democrat ticket last election. That didn't used to happen with me. That sort of makes me sad, like I no longer have a choice.

Not entirely, he failed to acknowledge that Clinton's policies were as much to blame for the financial crisis as Bush's and Reagan's. The Democrats lurching to the right under Clinton normalised extreme right wing theories like trickle down economics.

@@davidjones272 This segment was based on the situation right now, not a deep analysis of everything wrong with the Democratic Party for the past 30 years. He wasn't saying Democrats are perfect, just addressing the idiots who blindly repeat "Both sides are the same, sheeple!!!!!" No, they aren't. Democrats are far from ideal but Republicans are far worse. Third parties may better reflect what some of us want but they have no chance of winning presidential elections nor house or senate seats and instead may help Republicans. They can win smaller areas that are left leaning and that is where they should be focusing their efforts, not wasting a bunch of their money on just the presidential election. Even if one magically did miraculously win a presidential election, they'd still have Republicans and Democrats in the house and senate opposing them. The most realistic strategy that doesn't help Republicans in the process is for more left leaning people to run in Democratic primaries, which is what AOC did. I was 10 years old during the 2000 election, and that result followed by 9/11 caused my interest in politics. Honestly, though, it feels more like a duty to pay attention. I've spent almost two decades watching the Republican politicians in this country refuse to do their jobs. They lie, cheat, and ignore the people. They are stupid, or pretend stupid about issues we need to solve. They are hypocrites to an incredible degree, and project their own flaws and failings onto others to distract and derail conversations. They are nasty and insulting when they think it will suit them, petty about any perceived insult back at them, and then go back to putting on fake smiles and playing politics when it's time for that. They hold us back in so many ways, and I just don't even know what it used to mean to be a "conservative" or a "Republican" back when they actually helped this country.
