I'd argue that 100 years ago, they'd be taking all that anger and passion and being religious with it, since it's historically been one of the only types of communities that were so passion and belief driven. @@gastropod557 My point is that it's not a religion or lack of religion that causes people to commit atrocious acts, rather it's corrupt human nation which is full of greed and hungers for power. In other words, I'm not blaming atheism in the same way one cannot blame Christianity or belief in God for atrocities committed against fellow human beings, ideologies however are responsible and these can incorporate a belief in God or a lack of belief in God, I simply used Marxism as a counter example to the commonly held assumption that 'religion poisons everything.' Regarding belief in God to somehow diametrically opposed to believing in science, well that can be another discussion, I've never fully understood that statement or concept because it's like saying one doesn't need to believe in science or mathematics to believe in history, this is hypothetically true and yet believing in history in reality doesn't affect one's belief in science or math or any other subject. In the same way of course one does not need to possess faith in an invisible Creator to believe in the laws of physics or to even do incredible things with science (look at Stephen Hawking), the existence of God is not a scientific question and it's in every way a philosophical and existential question, science explains how the Universe operates but it cannot explain how the Universe came into existence and that's because science was never meant to tell us all of reality just as in the same way a science degree does nothing for historical analysis or even for a degree in literature, it's meant to explain one mode or aspect of reality.

Or are you not seeing the large swath of supposedly Christian people who have sold their soul to a man who is utterly lacking in any moral character so that they can retain power and force others to follow the rules they create based on their religion? The power of the state inevitably corrupts the church, and the corrupt church in turn corrupts the government. We keep them separate to protect believers and non-believers alike so each may live by their own conscience and allow others the freedom to do the same. The problem we've had in this country is the large swath of religious fanatics who get pissy when told they're not allowed to force others to adhere to their religion and cry 'oppression' when they don't get their way. Practice your religion as you will. No one's stopping you. All they're stopping is the encoding of particular religious dogma into law, especially in areas where it serves only to infringe upon the individual rights of other people.

Get enough people doing the same, they will never figure out that they are the ones that smell like shit. Dumping a cold bucket of reality on people that far gone, just makes them angry. The second, your likelihood of being a victim of gun crime is infinitesimally small, whereas, you are regularly on the road surrounded by other motorists who are actively using their automobiles and the probability of one of those people causing you harm is far greater than that of a gun owner. The vast majority of gun crime (what little there actually is) is committed by gangs in big cities. Oddly enough, usually cities with the strictest gun laws. Laws that prohibit those victims from having a weapon on them for their own protection, but did nothing to stop their attacker. Also, I own two firearms. One is my concealed carry pistol, and the other is the dreaded AR-15. Your movement actively seeks to ban and confiscate that weapon. That is one half of my firearms. That is objectively taking my guns. To boot, that isn't even the half of how invasive these laws actually are for only regular people. The adults all went insane at least once a week, and I'm not sure if it was "God's will" to scare the Jesus right outta me, but it was one of the reasons I lost faith. It didn't seem real to me, like everyone dropped their sanity for some fantasy D&D Bible Version each week, but it wasn't a game. @@kevin85ify The catholic church has been one of the most disingenuous, corrupt, criminal and materialistic organizations not just in recent but distant history, all while preaching honesty, integrity, obedience to laws and spiritualism. To point out such hypocrisy isn't an insult, it's quite simply true, and if you consider the pointing out of inconsistencies insulting, then that's a sign you're a dogmatist who has abondoned his critical thinking skills. There are 7,591 words in the U.S. Constitution, including the 27 Amendments and not one of those words is god, jesus, messiah, christ or savior. You can believe in any dirty god you choose to believe in. You can even teach your unfortunate children to believe in bloody, violent mythology. What you cannot do is shove your dirty god into my life via my secular government. Many American citizens think you’re an arrogant bigot to even consider that we should be required to live by your worthless ancient story time entertainment. So run along and “enjoy” and see if you’re able to function without needing to share your horror story with people who are wholly uninterested in living by your dirty babble.

A "pure agnostic" says "I don't know and there's no way to know and I can't believe or disbelieve".
