Sadly you have to do a bit of tinkering to get it to play full speed in later levels but still nice to have a good few GameCube game’s playable on the flip

Thanks for your thorough review! Do cloud streaming services like GeForceNow or Xcloud work on this device? I want to get it, but only if this model solved problem from previous models where the second triggers weren’t recognized by those streaming services. I want to stream Riders Republic or Forza Horizon 4/5 on the device. Would I be able to play those games through internet streaming on the RP Flip? Please let me know if you have any advice!

normally i am not a big fan of clamshells, but the round design is something i find appealing

Never upgraded Retroid models before. If I simply stick my micro SD from my Retroid Pocket 2+ inside the Flip or Retroid Pocket 3+, will all my roms and saves show up for me long as I download the same emulation apps I had? (RetroArch, DrasticDS, MyBoy

Thanks for the video. Its a cool looking device. I am not sure I would get much value. I still use my rp2 +. I am using it for a ps2 game finial fantasy 10. and a good few game cube games... resident evil 4 is most played. I would assume the RP3+ chipset should be able to play game cube better? Sad about the cooling. When you get more are you going to do a breakdown? I understand if the answer is NO unless broken/out of warranty.

yes definitely get better performance for GameCube and ps2 I will do a video on them systems. the cooling was a bit of a let down but I will be getting a few more flips so I can see if the others versions are the same or the one I have is broken maybe? and yes I can do a break down on the review video when I do it

@@SonicLoveEmulation There's supposed to be a fan control somewhere in the settings/menu that disables it from running. Maybe it's set to the off position which is why the fan isn't working?

Thanks for the honest first look. After watching seems like it's a bit of a prototype and maybe Retroid will come out with a better design in a couple of years.

The foam insert is meant to fill the void so you can use it without the grip on. I canceled the grip from my order after seeing someone else's review yesterday.

in all fairness you wont get a ps2 emulator at this price point, you are also hitting a balance of portablility and power there, i'd suggest looking at the ayn odin or steam deck for something more beefy but as i said you witn fint anything you can toss in a pocket that can run ps2 quite yet, as far as i am aware.

I'm getting the flip by 2pm today (Assuming Amazon was as fast as it was with my last package)

Im going to get this for Christmas. I was going to ask for Christmas. I wanted something portable to emulate up to PS2/Gamecube games and have some Android games so this is it. I was going to otder the.16 Bit US version but I really likw the Gamecube Purple..Hmm.

I've been on the fence about getting this for a little while and will probably order one today. At first I was eyeing the 16-bit style, but I think the indigo one is the one to get. Having the device darker than the buttons seems to make the empty space between the d-pad and face buttons less noticable. I'm not a big fan of sliders either, but none of the games I'll play on it will require them, so not a big deal for me.

I'm really excited to buy one. But I'm from Latam so, bad luck. 😅😅😅

How would you compare the Retroid Pocket Flip to the Powkiddy x18s (Black Version)...? The Flip is sleek, but the x18s has a bigger screen and actual analog sticks. They both have the same chipset (right?), so I would genuinely love to know how these two devices compare from someone who has reviewed both.

So how would you rate the PS2 performance for this model? With it on software renderer, of course. I really want to get this thing, but if I can't run PS2 games at full speed using native rez, then it's kind of a moot point for me.

@Patrick Sir, "software rendering" is not the same as "native resolution". I wanna highly doubt that using the software rendering would get you anywhere with ps2 emulation on a device like this. 😁

@@clausjahnel5379 Software rendering only works with native resolution, and it primarily uses the CPU instead of the GPU. Still, it can give you some gains depending on how bad the GPU drivers (and gpu) are. Software mode also has less graphical glitches. What makes it nice is that you can kind of split the load between multiple CPU cores. Hence why I think it might potentially work better, given that it's a 6-8 core device.

Its gonna depend on what games you want to play. Test around.

This bad boy has everything I could possibly want except for the analog sliders. I'd imagine that would take some getting used to, but probably not too bad since I am a veteran PSP user. Analog triggers, HDMI out, clamshell design, chip powerful enough for Dreamcast and a little higher, active cooling. It looks amazing.

I hope they release a Retroid Pocket Flip XL

I doubt that would ever happen cause of the type of chipset. This runs android OS only and pretty sure thats all it would ever have so as with most other android only OS handhelds your only option for a nice gaming style front end would be something like Dijisho, Reset Collection or DiG even. Thats why for me, if it cant run linux, its a no buy. 😊

Plays ps1 games at 4x resolution with the emulator duck station and not all ps2 games just a handful easier ones add say about 40% of the ps2 library

I wasn't considering the indigo at all but now I'm sold. It's beautiful.

it’s possible on that chipset but I have not been able to get it up and running yet the rg353 is the same chipset and can play some lite GameCube and maybe a few Wii games but it’s boots Linux and android but the rk2023 is only Linux and needs a new os to run GameCube I recon

OK. Rather than say my usual 'wait for metal 7" version Ill be brutally honest this time. And this is only my personal view, I know others like clamshell design and android so again, this is only my opinion on what I think. 😊 1st: I dont like clamshells, never did, even though I have had one, an NDS Lite. 2nd: Its android OS only. (At least officially.)For me, its gotta be able to run linux or its a no buy. 3rd: Its got sliders… meh. 4th: Screen is to small 😊 Yes that makes it pocketable, fine if you want that, but again...for me.. No. (Ok, its borderline passable in screensize.. I guess.. Just😁) But hey.. nice video ofcourse Sonic 😇👍

I prefer vertical handhelds because I like to have my hands lower than where I'm looking. It's just easier on my arms and neck that way. I wouldn't mind a 5 inch gameboy style vertical but clamshells are clearly the preferred vertical form factor for larger screens. I canceled my pre-order because I personally feel like the retroid team is pretty shady. That being said I'm watching the reviews to see if it's worth it.

Personally i hate everything about the design except for the clamshell design. X18S is the perfect clamshell, also cheaper and has same specs and has analog sticks, no useless active cooling and bigger screen

I repeat that for me the retroid flip is the best portable console concept ever ,but the retroid controls don't drive me crazy, I already had a rp2 + and I resold it for an anbernic rg353p, the rg353p has phenomenal controls, including the shoulder buttons very similar to my 8bitdo sn30 pro. Furthermore, I don't like the analogue sliders, they are too uncomfortable, finally, the retroid gives its worst when it comes to after-sales service because the spare parts are not all available and after a while time they are slowly removed from the site, behavior that I don't like at all!! like the video as always, keep it up my friend!!

I can definitely relate to the points you have made, I think there is always enough feedback in video for the developers to make a true classic perfect handheld but I think it’s part of a long term marketing strategy that allows us to keep spending lots of money searching for the perfect handheld lol and thank you buddy for the epic support on the channel

Am I the only one that is not excited about this thing? Its pretty much just a Nintendo DS with a blank space on the bottom half.

I cant believe this run Dolphin and the switch just cant, is horrible.

Im going wait until they put SD chipsets in these then I will pick one up to tinker with. I picked up a LG wing phone that pretty much emulate up to ps2 and Wii. Im going to hold off until probably November and see witch portable can run Nintendo Switch titles the best off from the Skyline edge android app project.

Kinda wish they had a type C for video out instead mini hdmi. Still can pair to media glasses just need a dongle.
