All of these really fit the format, even Elevations. Kinda wish I’d known about Maple Run Band before they sold out on the 8-track release, I want to build a small collection and that’d have been the perfect choice to start out

I agree. They fit the format perfectly. I stumbled upon the Maple Run album by accident, and I'm glad I did.

I bought the Cheap Trick album The Latest on 8-Track back in 2009, a really good album. I think Dolly Parton’s Rock Star had a limited release on 8-track too. That Toyo deck looks a lot like one Zenith put out back in the early 70’s. Love your channel BTW.

Zenith would have used an outsourced transport, not one they made in-house. Many do look a lot like each other.

Thanks for watching! I found it fascinating that bands were still releasing on 8 track. I know it's mostly a gimmick nowadays, I doubt people are buying them to actually listen to them, but I think it's neat nonetheless.

Needlejuice Records puts out many of their releases on tape, both cassette and 8-track, they've even done a cylinder. My 2017 comedy music album "Vaudeville" (with some Dr Demento Show picks on it) was also released on 8-track.

I believe the name of the band is pronounced GEEN. As in Ed Gein the serial killer from Wisconsin in the 1950's. Makes sense - Gein and the Graverobbers since he also robbed graves. Not a fan of 8-Tracks, but cool to see that they have come back slightly like cassettes. Love the vintage gear especially.

It not just the 8 Track media, I am working on a new 8 Track deck at the moment, with noise reduction and improved bias system for the record side. This has been a project that keep me busy for many years work through this design and getting it to high performance standards I have set.

Quarter inch tape is widely available, so theoretically they could respool the cartridge with brand new tape, but my goodness I wouldn't attempt without spooling machinery!

Looking at them all afterward, I believe they are the original tape that's been erased and recorded over. There are some dropouts in the recordings that make me believe the tape is old.

Continuous-loop tapes need to be backcoated so the layers will slip past each other. I highly doubt there is much new old stock of it to be had any more.

In home 8-Track are pretty uncommon if I remember. But it is nice to know these are out there! This is a tough market: A: virtually all 8-Tracks need their pads replaced before playing. B: From a time of in car use before A/C so used are not like "once played Jazz cassettes". C: blank media always was far and few in comparison to cassette, circles back to in home units being rare. That being said, if a in home 8-Track unit shows up in a Goodwill, you better believe I am buying that!!

Home 8-track players were Very common. Almost all stereo consoles of the 1970s had them, or at least a space where one could be installed. Radio Shack sold add-on players in significant numbers.

Yes, they are. They all need a little servicing before use, like replacing pads and foil splice. I've purchased a few and had pretty good luck. I did a recent video recording onto one: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dIGtpsmMhsebXdY.html

I don't agree, I have a high end Pioneer CT-A9X Cassette Deck that absolutely rocks it, the Tapes that sound the best are the 80s and 90s recorded with Dolby, that being said 8 Track is another format that will have some bands you may have never heard too, there are Many Many old tapes available also and there is also the chance to find awesome albums still Sealed from the best Era of Music. Who the hell would want yo suffer through old audio technology such as 8 tracks, LP's, cassettes etc. CD, digital, or streaming is the way to go. The fact that you have to get up and put the stylus on the song you want and you can rewind or forward or shuffle with a remote makes me cringe. 😑

I'll agree with both of you. Streaming is WAY more convenient. When I want to listen to a good quality version of a song quickly, that's exactly what I do. When I want more of an experience with the music, something tactile, I play tape. Just depends on my mood.
