    Man, I wish they’d make 6-meter and/or 2-meter radio multi-mode radios in that design and style. Nice full-size manual controls, real meters, simple function, no crummy LCD displays (I’m sick of LCD displays). Very elegant “old school” function and interface. Good looking piece of equipment. I am sorely tempted to get one just to use on the 10m amateur radio band (yes, I’m a licensed Advanced-Class American Ham ).

    Nice demo sir. I'm really glad the SM radio companieshave cleaned up the recieve section. For the longest time it seemed as if SM radios had the worst white noise that I refuse to tolerate! Just a personal experience; the best and quietest recievers I've ever had were a Cobra 2000 and a DAK X. Unfortunately those are nearly fossils of this hobby but their receiving abilities were extraordinary.

  • @buckaroobonsi555

    @buckaroobonsi555

    6 ай бұрын

    Well the DAK X was a terrible radio it looked good but it's guts inside where terrible. It was a Korean knockoff of a Cybernet Chasis but was so cheaply made the Korean company that made the PCB did not even put their name ont he board or mark it well. It is true that the Cybernet design was a good solid design but it was a cybernet knockoff not a real cybernet. The PCB itself was poorly made which is where the issues arrise not the actual design or the parts used in it the board was prone to delamination, cracking, moisture damage, cold solder joint issues. You could have gotten a cybernet chasis radio and a 2 tube amp and been much further ahead for less money. The Cobra 2000 was a good radio once they worked out the bugs in the freq. counter section a few updates but again you could have had purchased a Cobra 148GTL or Uniden Grant XL for about $149, added a cheap linear power supply for $30 from radio shack and put a car speaker in a cigar box and saved a fortune and just lied to people on air about talking to them on a CObra 2000. As to the white noise that is has nothing to do with surface mount technology and everything to do with bad designs and cheap parts. I can show fantastic sounding radio's on transmit and recieve with all technology from tube radio's to through hole to SMD. Same thing applies to car audio or hime audio I can show you garbage componets to fantastic at every price point and in every era and type of gear. Most of the noise is atmospheric and antenna based. A lot of noise is due to how cleanand effecient modern intergrated circuits are. They lack the damping factor and losses that you find in older gear. Older gear was designed to take advantage of this and circuits and componets biased to naturaly dapen what we did not want so the output stage was designed to take advantage of this. A lot of IC's today do not have the artifacts of true analog discrete componets of yesterday they lack the sensitivity but give you lower cost by having almost all of the essential radio bits on one or 2 IC's. They also pass what they detect almost 100% as detected there is less natural notching. So you end up with something that is cheap, flexible, has lots of features but is harsh and cold. The lack of capacitors lowers cost and increases reliabilty but it takes away the ability to tune the circuit even a lower number of resistors ends up taking away tunability. To get the sound you are after you would need to implament some high end sound shaping, notching, filtering, audio processing that all the missing capacitors and resistors used to do in circuit. The customer "CB'er's" does not demand this so it is not implemented. They want lots of bandwidth, loud audio and cheap watts and that is exactly what we get. If people like you stoped buying radio's that are not what they want the market would listen. Until people stop buying nothing will change!

    Just asking.... while wearing headphones, what do you hear when you key the mic? I’ve owned most of the black radios over the years, and my experience has been (while wearing headphones and keying up) it makes a ridiculously loud thud that is painful to the ear. I was hoping they finally solved this annoyance. I’ve chatted with the engineers of RCI/Galaxy more than a couple of times about this issue to no avail.

    SMPS & a mobile board in a big case. Nicest thing is the features have controls instead of being buried deep inside a menu .

  • @buckaroobonsi555

    @buckaroobonsi555

    6 ай бұрын

    I agree menu driven radio's especialy for common controls are stupid and frustrating in a mobile application but they make perfect sense in a base radio. The problem is that everything is micro controller controlled today. They use cheap encoders and even cheaper switches. If they gave you a switch for every function you would either have a radio face that is cluttered with switches like a 1990's Mercedes Benz that looked like a 1970's Jumbo Jet cocpit with all the tiny switches or your give up feature. To get more features and control with a limited face you would need to have a true PC or Phone interface that was real time and fast with a rather sophisticated chip set and program. That would lower the profit margin for distributors and retailers or drive up cost. The real problem with menu driven radios is not having a menu but how cheaply and poorly it is excuted. The radio's are not even as powerful as a smart phone from 15 years ago so trying to navigate them is garbage it is like trying to eat a meal with Hokey Gloves on it is always clumsy. The displays they give us are dumpster fire cheap garbage. For the price of these radio's we should be able to use a USB cable and operate them with an app on our phone of PC just as easily as we use or phone or PC.

    I bought a 69 Base several months back, bought it from ebay, after i bought it they did some tuning and other bits, by the time i finally received it couldn't wait to get it out the box and fire it up, before i did that i needed to take off the cover and switch the power supply to 240, im in Australia, went out for a radio check and people were saying its off frequency, so i used the fine tune, it was very touchy, you only have to blow on it and you were off again, clarifier is unlocked, its very hard to get it on frequency and for it to stay there, i paid $1400 for the radio, postage is a killer, not used it since, i did get back in touch with the company i bought it from,( wont mention any names ), they said it can be sent back and they would look at it, i decided against that as it could be months before i see it again, going to get a Tech here to look at it when the rush dies down, just wondering if any others outside America gets this as well. Now the plus side of owning a RCI, they are really built well, and having a switchable power supply is good, with it had another digit on the frequency counter, apart from that it would survive a nuclear attack, i have had several RCI`s and do like them, some people dont like them but i do, good video, there is not much difference between the standard 69 to the plus, that i could see..

    Maybe now is the time that all Multimode CB transceivers are designed around PowerSDR firmware and electronics that has been unlocked to enable operation on the 11Mtr Band, so that all processing is done using lines of C++ code on DSP Processor and not discrete components and would a Zero IF system and if possible split into two parts i.e the control head and the RF hardware unit that mounts on the Antenna pole and connects the antenna via short cable, the control head and the RF hardware unit would be connected together via a heavy duty LAN cable and powered via POE.

    REC is record, not "receive" It's an output the allows you to record transmissions and receptions should you desire to.

    2:07 Clicks on the audio. It seems to be caused by a faulty power lead to the oscilloscope, as the image on the screen disappears every time there's a click. I guess there's an intermittent power connection problem?🤔

    For that price point it should use two real rf mosfet finals like the Mitsubishi Rd100hhf1 and a linear power supply. My problem with it is that we are not getting what we are paying for. It is like paying Ferrari prices for a old Ford!
