New Project! Gorgeous 1971 340 4 Speed 'Cuda Walkaround, Cold Start, Transmission Removal
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Today's video is a quick look at this awesome '71 Plymouth 'Cuda. This car instantly reminded me of my '71 Demon - blue, 340, four speed, and essentially plain exterior. It's in the shop for some mechanical stuff - correct radiator installation, water pump replacement, a couple oil leaks, and the big one - a worn out second gear synchro. On the next installment, we'll dive into rebuilding the Mopar A833 four speed transmission. @rocketresto

Love the '71 Cuda. That one is a beauty! My first car in 1978 was a '71 Barracuda 318 with a 3 speed on the floor. I put a set of 70's on the front and 60's on the back with ET alum slotted mags. The body was that bronze color with a slight flake in it that really popped in the sunlight. I didn't have enough money to do all the go faster stuff I wanted to do. I really wanted to put a 340 in it with a 4 speed and pistol grip. Never should have sold it.
B7/B5! Owner should be happy!
I wish I CUDA bought one of those cuda’s they are nice 👍 Thanks for sharing with us!
Sweet ride
The 71 Cuda has always been my favorite! Love the cheese grater grill, quad headlights and fender gills and the taillights are awesome too!👍

Yes sir. The 71 cuda is my dream car, since I saw phantasm in 79, I fell in love with it, that cheese grater grill.and fender gills are just soooo cool Plymouth should have carried that style thru 74.
Like you, I prefer drivers. When I was in high school in 78, I worked at Junction Texaco on I-70 and Colfax in Golden Colorado. I drove a 72 Ford Maverick. One of my coworkers drove a blue 71 'Cuda like this one, although it had a black vinyl top as I recall. I can't remember the motor, but it had some juice. We used to get off work and drive over to Bandimere Speedway to watch the Friday night races. Great times.
Nice 71' Cuda!
That's such a prety car.

I know. I just love it.
Really nice car.
Awesome Cuda. I rebuilt an A-833 for my 74 challenger back in 1980. I blew out my 2nd gear synchro too. And while I was in there I did all the synchros and bearings. I had to get parts from The Direct Connection. Back then there was no other source. It took weeks to get parts. I kept putting the components back on the main shaft wrong. I took it apart and put it back together several times. I had no manual and didn't take pictures. And being stoned didn't help. But I eventually got it done. Good times !

Haaahaha. That’s awesome. Yes we got a full bearing and synchro kit. I’m excited to do it. My brother has been through them but I haven’t myself yet - and I have a couple more to do… I’ve got a good rebuild guide book and a camera, so I’m hoping I can do an ok job. We’ll see.
I love it and miss it ! I'm very glad it went to a very nice guy. I just want to correct the comment that was made at 2:14 in this video. This was never a mid-west car, according to my records. This has always been a San Francisco Bay Area car. Sold at Mancini Motors in Mountain view Ca. (shown on the original window sticker) to someone in Orinda, Ca. Second owner was from San Bruno Ca. where I purchased the Cuda in 2003. Cheers.

I just heard this in a private message as well. I was misinformed - apparently Tom was thinking of one of Murray’s other cars. This explains what appear to be absolutely flawless and uncut original floors! I apologize and will correct the record in my next installment on the car. I love this thing too. If you can’t tell. Haha.

@@DeadDodgeGarage No problem buddy. Haha, yeah me still. The looks I used to get when I drove it locally !
Great video, Jaime, if someone had time, it might be cool to see the Demon Cragers on the Cuda. I guess I’m just old school, but that would look absolutely sick. There’s something about that blue.……wicked. Also, you should do a photo shoot before you give the Cuda back, with the Demon next to it.

I would very much like to see them next to eachother. Hopefully a weather break happens and I get the other four speed in the Demon in time. Demon Cragars are small bolt so they won’t fit! But that would be a great look.
What a great daily driver! The judicious application of engine oil to the underside of the car (automatic corrosion prevention, I'm sure) is a little concerning. I DO really like the wheel and stance the car has. Takes me straight back to my days in Jr and Sr. high school when the street cars had the rear ends jacked up in the air.

It is borderline excessive on the self lubrication, I would agree. We’re going to see if we can dial that back a little bit. Oh yeah. I love it.
Beautiful car! 340s are so much fun to drive. I still miss the only one I've ever owned - a '72, 3 speed Duster.

I fired my Demon up yesterday for the first time in months. I forgot how awesome the 340 sounds. Need to hurry up and get transmission replaced and oil leaks fixed in time for the season to change. Can’t wait to drive it again.
Man I love that Cuda I would drive that all day. There are times i wish i could trade my 68 Satellite for one.
Great looking Cuda! I used to a 71 Cuda, sold it about 15 years ago, great looking car.

Dang. Like many people I think ‘71 is the best without question. Saw you pop in right at the end of the live! I had to go and eat steak. Catch you next time.

@@DeadDodgeGarage I was hoping you had bought the Cuda so you could sell me the Demon 🙂 Those Demon 340's are impossible to find, I bought a 72 Duster 340 about 4 months ago, but I really wanted a Demon...

@@72442conv No such luck on either front. Haha. I actually got the Demon out of the garage today for the first time this winter, and remembered why I love it all over again. I guess I won't say never... but I don't think it's leaving me *any* time soon.

@@DeadDodgeGarage I can certainly understand that 😀
Gotta love them Cudas. My son just bought me a Revell kit, 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda 426. Challengers just edge them out look wise with me, but not by much. Looking forward to seeing more of that Challenger. 👀👀👀👀👀👀

I have also always preferred the Challenger personally. I definitely understand the appeal of the ‘Cuda, but I’m really a Dodge guy. For some reason this blue one just hits all the right notes for me. I love it. Me too! The Challenger is going to be a big, awesome project - almost all new territory for me. I’m very excited.
It's got a big block killer in it needs a 6 pack
👍🏼
👍🏻💯🇦🇺
I'm guessing that's Murrary's blue 71 Cuda? I sold him the amazing 72 Duster340 lil over 3 years ago.

Yes, it’s one of Murray’s! I haven’t seen anything else from his collection yet, but I have heart about the Duster. Very cool.
Oh hot damn! Much like the yello one, I'd drive the shit out of that. It's official, I need to leave Alberta and move down there. The wife can come if she wants I guess.

🤣
Need any guidance on the transmission, just ask.
Lose the air shocks Tyres are to high on the rear will be geared wrong would look better not so jacked at the rear 🙀

Not my car or choice, but personally I dig it. It doesn’t even have the shock extensions like my Challenger had. I don’t know if the air shocks are even raised at all. It has what appear to be super stock springs so it might just be like that.
