Feels strange that a speech made by writers for a fictional character can be so good.

The writing, Malkovich's performance, the cinematography... This is one of the best monologues I have ever watched on tv. I am an atheist and this is a fictional speech, still, I am amazed and moved by it

Because this came from a PHILOSOPHICAL and HUMANIST standpoint, not like the insensitive, illogical and unreceptive "traditional" Catholic sermons. I would know as a Catholic. When I was younger, I would spend most homilies poking holes through the reasoning of the priest. LOL. Malkovich's monologues would appeal to anyone with common sense.

Now that was amazing. So much emotion from Cardinal Voiello. Perhaps the only time he has showed such human-like emotiond aside from his interactions with Sister Esther in Season 1.

Mate, that was almost 600 years ago. Get over it already. Maybe the greeks should've fought harder to save their crumbling empire instead of begging Rome for help - the same Rome that they broke away from in 1054. The Pope was under no obligation whatsoever to help the greek schismatics.

Constantinople was the Lord's judgement upon us for signing onto the Council of Florence We abandoned Him, so He scattered us to the wind In exile and defeat, our faith was renewed and our sins atoned for, glory be unto God for He never tests us more than we can handle

That I can accept as an argument in the real world... this is just a piece of art, and as in all arts, it offers reflections. Don't forget there is a creator behind this, Sorrentino, which has explored all this in his previous works... the decadent experience of living. In faith we look for relief, we're all troubled and misunderstood, but no human or non-human figure will bring ease to our life... that is what I believe the series has told us so far... that the path is up to us, through acceptance.
