    I can see this being helpful for some. For me it feels like overthinking but to be fair, I don't plan hourly and probably don't have a many tasks as many people. When I used to teach, I think this would have been great for lesson planning!

    True, this is definitely more of a productivity hack for scheduling repetitive tasks in more of a time blocking format. Not a necessity for everyone.

    I like the idea of the sticky note tabs for repetitive tasks. However, I don’t see the value of writing in what you’ve done after the fact, unless you’re journaling. Please explain. Also, I know the sticky on the notes doesn’t last forever. Have you found a simple solution for re-sticking them? Thanks so much!

    I think it’s so important to note that there is a process between pre-planning and documenting. I use different flags for things that can move (like nail appointment) and highlighters for things that moved from one day to another. Thanks for sharing this new way to use flags!

    This is very interesting. I’ve actually not seen folks use planner task cards the way you indicated. Everyone I’ve seen use them uses them to document their routine tasks rather than write them down each day or week. So they don’t take the stickies off and move them into their planner. They just pull them out and go thru the list when they are doing that routine to make sure they cover each item or step. They don’t ever go into their planner pages or get moved around. They use the transparent stickies a lot because they are cute and they can change them when they need to modify their routine or if their routine changes seasonally or when on summer break etc. but many just have them printed.

  • @squairdplans

    @squairdplans

    I watched a video by the proclaimed creator of the task card method, and originally it seems it was used as I described. I think over time as it filtered through the community, people started using them more as routine lists like you said. I can see the benefit with both, but I think if I was going to just use it as a list, I'd print it on cardstock and trim to size instead of borthering with labels & sticky flags...but that is just me. ;)

  • @JustScribble

    @JustScribble

    @@squairdplans interesting. This is the first time I’ve seen it used like this. But I’ve only been in the community for 5 years or so and definitely don’t follow everyone! Most that I see using the sticky notes are people that bought task card kits that were customizable and using them as such. And folks that have seasonal routine changes because of kids school years etc. but I see a lot that make theirs and laminate them and others that get them custom printed from planner shops. Glad there’s options for everyone.

    I do something similar for my monthly bills & subscriptions. They are on regular narrow sticky notes, all one color, & I just move them month to month. I also use sticky notes to kind of future plan so I don't pen anything in until I'm actually planning that month or week out, but I think most planners do something like that.

  • @squairdplans

    @squairdplans

    Smart for the monthly bills. This is just sticky note future planning on steroids, but thought I'd share my techniques since I didn't see anyone else doing this for time blocking. It has really helped me plan on paper but with the flexibility of digital planning.

    This would be too much work for me personally. But I also time block my day differently so that it’s more easily filled in with actual time spent and also don’t mind whiting out or crossing out if something changes and it still looks nice (IG worthy and not messy) in the end. I time block my day with the known items/events. And then in my sidebar I add tasks for the week that aren’t day specific and I add the things that have to be done on a specific day on that day. And then I add to my daily column as the day goes on filling in what I actually did. But I also work for a large corporation and I know my work hours and I don’t take breaks or get to take breaks like this either.

  • @squairdplans

    @squairdplans

    TFS! I could see how this would be overkill for a work or other more structured schedule. I would not need this hack if I worked a 9-5 job, but have found that being self employed has made it much easier for time to be used up by not so productive things. This is a way to help plan out defined segments of productive time through out my day more efficiently, so I thought I'd share for those who have a similar need.

    It's actually helpful for high school and college students in helping them learn to manage their time. I did something similar with my student employees.... classes, study time, work, sleep, am routine, pm routine, social time with friends, family time. Chores, shopping, meals.... Work.... check emails, reply to emails, new assignment, design, team review of design, communicate with customer. Check email, clean up work space, team mtg, time card, sign out. For many students it was their first job.
