New Photo Tour Footage And The Uncertain Future of Grindavik

This unusually long update doesn't just include new footage, it has everything to do with the future of the village Grindavik, what we can do and can't. My photo tour may have been a bit shorter than I preferred but I did however capture some important bits into this ongoing drama that might give birth to year another eruption in next week. By then, I will already be back on the Reykjabes peninsula.

@@johnratcliffe6438 There is no fishing from the Blue Lagoon! That's the resort. Restaurants all over Iceland have fish on their menu. Grindavik's economy depends on the fishing industry and the export of fish.

@@JustIcelandicI agree you should be getting recognition for what you're doing. Not only giving out reliable information, beautiful shots of Iceland, and staying calm under the circumstances. Hopefully we get to meet personally since there's a small chance I might be visiting Iceland this year with family. It's not confirmed yet, so either later this year, or next year, I'll have to see how things work out. If yes I'm so hoping to see an eruption, if no I'm hoping to at least be able to visit the Fagradalsfjall volcano and the lava field.

Hi Gylfi! Best regards from Poland! I wonder if Blue Lagoon could be open, why not the port of Grindavik as it's more important for the Icelandic economy than one expensive spa for tourists? Thanks for your fantastic work and thorough analysis of all problems connected to these eruptions. It's always a great pleasure to watch your clips and listen to the storytelling. I like your wryly sense of humor. 😜 By the way, it's kind of weird to watch places we visited in the first days of last September which have now changed so dramatically. Whilst it must have been very frustrating for you not getting the coverage you wanted, but don't despair because we are all grateful for anything you do for us. I've been watching for the last few months with great interest and i have to say, the Icelandic Government have made a real mess of this situation, and it does look from the outside that the Government are favouring the Blue Lagoon because of the revenue generated from the tourism but at the same time ruining the lives of the Grindavic Residents. Although the Gov are now looking to buy out the residents, the damage in terms of stress and Mental Health has already been done. This doesn't even take into account the stress also caused by the Insurance Companies trying to weedle their way out of paying up. Keep up the great work and i look forward to your final Documentary 😊. All the best. Martyn

We are in Reykjavik at the moment and passed through the security checkpoint the other day too. I can also say yes, the wind was pretty strong. Driving past the new lava field and the deserted town of Grindavik was very eerie. The blue lagoon was busy and the diggers surrounding the area were obviously very hard at work. The coastguard helicopter passing overhead was also a stark reminder of the current situation. We wish everyone in the area to keep safe and to have strength to get them through this time. Thanks again for all your information and footage. ❤

I live far from volcanoes, and I have seen through various KZread videos that there is much to love about Iceland. The main problem I can see from over here about living on a volcano, is the volcano itself. Especially one that is not only on a plate boundary, but also the result of a (suspected) mantle plume. I wish all Icelanders the best for the future, and I hope your government decides to accommodate the people in meaningful ways to address the housing shortage.

I am so sorry for the stress you endured to bring us an update but thank you so much for your videos, you're my go-to for reliable information. My heart goes out to everyone facing uncertainty about their futures in Iceland. The one thing a person should be able to count on is a roof over their heads but Mother Nature apparently doesn't really care about that. All the best to everyone in Iceland and please be safe.

Thank you Gylfi! Incredible footage as always. Your reports are always very much appreciated. Had heard about the checkpoint system - pure insanity! And then to have to deal with wind too! So glad you managed to get SOME footage! Your work is so incredibly important. Hope the news for Grindavik is good moving forward. At least there is some little hope to hang onto for now …. ❤

I live in Phoenix, AZ, USA. I visited Iceland twice in the last year. once by taking a cruise and once by taking a van tour. I appreciate the updates you present. I agree with you that the fishing industry should be allowed to re-open. I enjoy your stories and your sense of humor about your drone's personality. and the problems you are experiencing as you keep us informed. I look forward to more information and videos from you.

On a background of your fantastic footage - rebellious drone notwithstanding - you bring a human face to a serious problem. Wishing all the best to the wonderful people of fire and ice.

Great update Gylfi, thanks for the video. It's such a shame that no matter the country, you still have governments that just don't seem to understand what the problems are and what to do about it in a timely and efficient manner. Hoping that the next eruption causes minimum disruption and that people can get on with their lives.

Hopefully, Grydavik will be spared from the whole 2-3 centuries activity, however, if it has to be destroyed, it’s better sooner rather than later so the residents can grieve and move on and funds can be saved. I hope all the eruptions move to a safe area that allows for great tourism and employment opportunities. Best wishes to all negatively affected Icelanders

There you go Gylfi the monetisation of the blue lagoon over safety and common sense good to hear your OK and keeping calm lol (well as much as possible). Glad the drone is behaving itself trying to kangaroo itself to a new owner 😂 be safe and be prepared from the Uk 🇬🇧 to Iceland 🇮🇸 Thankyou for the great footage always special 👍

Excellent update. So many issues and reasons to get angry. Govts and agencies are often so bad at dealing with these situations but as you made clear it is complicated. But if Blue Lagoon can be open so should the port and fishing businesses. Sods law with the drone and weather but then we live in the Scottish Highlands so understand! Your comments on Blue Lagoon made me laugh sort of!

@@JustIcelandicIs it better to use "Buy me a coffee" instead of for eksample PayPal? Would you get more of the money via that? I sent you a few kroner a while ago (although I had to convert it to Euro since ISK is not an option i PayPal), but I truly hope you got to keep most of it? Or does PayPal take too much?
