copyright is for losers and this shit has been up for a year and not taken down, i'll assume they won't give a shit.
good peel sessions if you like early new order, if you don't then this will probably sound like depressed manacuian ass shavings

Such an underrated song.
It is 2024 and this still sounds as ahead of its time as it did the first time I heard this album. (1993,I bought it in Manchester and played it in my friend's dorm in Swansea) Cool as ever.
John Peel was an introduction to so many bands for many of us who were teens in that era. We owe him such a debt. His sessions always seemed to sound more raw and often better than the vinyl alternatives. Every time a new Peel session appeared on the radio i would be there with my finger on the Rec button, even if i didnt know the band, i knew it was going to be interesting or amazing. I discovered so many awesome bands that way. Thanks forever to John Peel and lets not forget the part John Walters played either. A fantastic radio show, a great person, never forgotten by me
The First time I heard new order was this John Peel show...Being a JD fan i was hypnotised by the depth and mood of these 4 songs... Like an exorcism of the past.

It drones on and on... it's depressing, but it's easy listening. I prefer this to the studio recordings by far.

I bought this album back in 1987 on vinyl and CD, must admit, you've got to be a proper hard-core new order fan to appreciate it! Movement & Power Corruption Lies & then some rolled into a crazy sandwich! LOVE IT👍
I love, love, love Turn The Heater On.

“We All Stand” sounds gorgeous here. I think the piano really elevated it to another level.

It's gorgeous. I take it it's Bernard on the piano?
I love this album. It may be my absolute favorite recording by New Order, which is saying a lot considering I've been a fan of their music for decades now. It serves at a fascinating time capsule of a band stepping out of the shadows of their former selves and finding new directions. The memory of Joy Division seems to be lingering in every note of the first session while in the second session new creative potentials are beginning to blossom. This is one of the many reasons I am very grateful the Peel Sessions exist.

Agree I sometimes try to imagine what Ian would of been singing then I think there’s no way his voice would of fit

My thoughts exactly. While I liked Ian Curtis and no disrespect….New Order is light years ahead in popularity, sound, and remixes. Bringing in the electronic synth sound and Bernie’s vocals. Almost as if Ian had to die for a greater purpose. These Peel Sessions are proof of that.
The beauty of the Peel sessions is they give another insight to incredible compositions and don't detract from either Movement and Power Corruption and Lies ,and Martin Hannett did definitely produce Bernard's voice to sound like Ian Curtis on Movement
These raw live studio versions are so much better than the overproduced album versions. They played their hearts out for the late John Peel. Raw, Dark, and Moody…love it. I bought both 4-track John Peels on cassette in 1988 and then this 8 track CD in the early 90’s I believe. Great great album for traveling on the interstate - overnight in the middle of nowhere. Keeps you moving.
No comments? Why!? This is glorious.
Beautiful, thanks for the upload. Well articulated ;)
Ive been listening to this for 30 years and make sure you know that 586 was played forward, then played backwards off a reel to reel, then played forwards again for one of the sickest breaks youll ever heard. 32:20

exactly!! despite this just being a little peel session it’s incredibly well produced. ahead of their time for sure.
I got so lost in this (for me) stand alone masterpiece when i was 14.....(still am with 47) but it lead my way into joy division, why i am forever thank,-and faithful.
To me….the JPS album feels just like what Movement should have been. Raw, moody and dark. Such great memories of my two separate Peel Sessions cassettes and my 1987 Honda Accord, my Panasonic tape deck stereo, and me traveling interstate at night 320 miles every several weeks back from 1988 - 1990 to go home from college. Later I bought the CD with all 8 tracks. Such a great driving album.
I am subscribed because of your amazing taste in music
Bernard really starting to find himself by the 82 session, this and the Joy Division sessions are beautiful.
Bernard's vocals are much better here than on Movement. The band had a year to improve.
5-8-6 and its groove :)
I cannot stress this enough....second best album ever after joy division sessions (i see the peel sessios as stand alone albums!!!!)!
they dont count as stand alone albums, but for me they do.....jd's & no's both peel sessions are my most influential, inspiring and live saving music i had the luxury of coming across at a young age.hooked since then, barely had pubes and pimples and was watching the diary of adrian mole and grange hill.....oh,how innocent we were, seeking thrills and freedom but paved the way for this shithouse gangsta mentality.you can't deny the thread that lead to today!the more we shouted freedom the more we got via co-operations transfixing messages into beats which now incite for violence, drug selling (not peaceful use) and seperation of races....by shutting down one voice with incorrect history guilt and the other, free to hate all others due to acceptance of perpetual victimhood.a certain lobby laughs as we deconstruct ourselves without their hands being smudged with working class blood.we will find out who will he the fool in the end,i have hope!never bow to the most insane voices, stand firm if you have a moral and intelectual compass! best wishes to all from an irish manc stuck in germany...........-dmxi- ps:love hannett but he sadly overproduced "movement" which tends to give these sessions more credence.low-life was their second best and after substance it went downhill, imho.
Beautiful

@@erikkennedy Yeah, I realize that but the way it has a 2nd voice doing the higher octave just sounds wrong to my ears. I was an over-eager 21 year old aspiring musician visiting the UK when session#1 was first aired (staying in a squat, too!). I saw them live shortly thereafter (Heaven/King's X). No octaves live, btw..
We all stand is my favorite song in this álbum!
I wish I would have met John peel and his crew.😊 I hear Bernie clearer than ever.😊 Perfect with the bass mate.

Question. I had the cassette tape for this which I found in a rarity shop in the mid-west. It only had the second half of this album; 17:13 Turn the Heater On 22:15 We All Stand 27:40 Too Late 31:20 5-8-6 After all of these years to think that I was denied! Was there a edited version?

If Joy Division is God Ian Curtis is his Christ crucified and New Order his glorious ascension. But I believe that if he were alive the New Order would reach Blue Monday, but not the 90's dance pop that turned. Almost competing with Pet Shop Boys and Duran Duran. I Love Movement, Substance Both, Closer, Still But I puke listening to Regret.

Well, copyright ensured bands like Joy Division and New Order were able to make a living from their music and keep making records. Maybe they would have been better if they were trust fund kids dinking about on their parents' money but I guess the only way we'll know is to look at the state of the current music scene.
