New Omega Speedmaster Professional Moon Watch 3861 Master Chronometer (Best So Far!!)

After nearly 25 years the Omega Speedmaster Professional #moonwatch has been updated!! No easy feat when it comes to a watch whose design is as iconic as that of Speedmaster.
So how do you better an icon? With great caution and forethought!
In this video I go through the design and movement changes by comparing it to the outgoing 1861 model.
Images and video used are from Omega, Fratellowatches, Hodinkee & NASA.

Love the speedy and this is a great version. Only criticism is why we don’t get a ceramic bezel and better power reserve at such a high price point

I hear you fella, but they're trying to keep to the original aesthetic I guess. The power reserve on most Omega watches are way behind many watches priced at much lower price points.

Well noticed and good conclusions on the clasp update. Also the endlinks make this watch much more attractive for people with smaller wrists. Can not wait to try one on.

Yep it's needed to happen. Seems such an obvious thing for watch companies to do, but they often get it wrong.

Well done again, Dan!! Another enjoyable SWG experience. I have to agree with you about companies who are way off base when updating their previous, and sometimes iconic, models. How some of them get it so wrong is beyond me. Imo, OMEGA did a great job with the new Speedmaster releases. Take care Dan, and keep up the good work! René

Thanks so much for the kind words René. Means a lot to me my friend. Yep so many totally ruin their iconic pieces. Best leave as is or make tiny improvements to maintain the watch DNA. I'm working on the next video right now haha. Be safe and see you over on WUS soon.

Another excellent presentation, Dan! You are so right, this is most definitely the best yet! I have even seen the 321 in real life, and gorgeous as it is, this one in hesalite is my favorite! The fine details in this updated model seem almost limitless. And when I first had the watch on my wrist, I remarked that it just seems more compact now, although the case width is the same. It is apparently a bit thinner, and you can sense that on the wrist and, as you say, the end links are narrower, so the watch is much more comfortable and will fit almost any size wrist. If I say any more, I will be repeating what you said. Although I do have to defend Omega on the clasp. It fits almost seamslessly with the bracelet, and it would have to be, I believe, both thicker and wider if there was to be any kind of quick adjustment built in. With the narrower links, it is so easy to get a perfect fit. Cheers, Carl

Thanks Carl. You lucky devil seeing a 321. Despite not being a chronograph fan, the Ed White 321 was one of my favourite watch releases last year. The new bracelet is superb on your Speedmaster. I hear you with the comment on over tapering. After seeing more photos and videos I agree with you,but I won't be editing to the video now haha.

@@TheSurreyWatchGuy When I first saw the Ed White edition, I thought it really is the nicest Speedmaster yet! At the time, I was actually considering the Seamaster 300M 007 Edition. It was your enthusiasm that actually got me started on that one! Anyway, on my third visit to look at it, the Boutique had received a 321 for another client, and I got to see it before he picked it up. And I liked it so much, I actually started to think of which watches in my collection I could sell to get it. However, it doesn't have the hesalite crystal, or solid case back (which I totally understand) and it's a lot of money for a watch I don't consider perfect for me. So I left it. Finally the 3861 came along, and to me it is absolutely perfect. And I like the bracelet lots better!

Went to the OB today and had a look at the Hesalite on bracellet version. It is quite nice I must say. I think I'll wait till the market is saturated and then go pick one up with some sort of discount.

Strange that the Sub and Speedmaster, two classics...still do nothing for me. Got to try on one and see. I'm being spoiled by the visual effect of the Planet Ocean Liquidmetal Limited edition.

I hear you Jay. I've owned 2 Speedmasters both hesalite and a sapphire sandwich and sold both. Also have a 14060m Sub and a 114060 Sub too. Both moved on. The PO LM LE is a very special watch with enough going on to keep the interest there. Enjoy that beauty.

@@Jay-xr3sb I hear you fella. I've had mine since 2012 from new at an AD. The longest I've kept a watch to date. Probably wear it this weekend, although the honeymoon period with the Bond watch is still going strong 5 months later.

Difference is the sub and speedy have classic timeless designs that survive trends whereas the PO certainly won’t. I personally like simple classic watches like the speedy or an OP

@@thegraciefighter102 the old pre ceramic subs had good proportions, they ruined that with a boxy case. Bit they have half fixes that. The Mercedes has and cyclops have always looked dated to me. Never been a fan. Speedy is nice but again and old throw back, not my thing. Time will tell about the PO, the newer ones have got too thick and toyish, the 2500 is the sweet spot. It's about individual tastes as well, tried the other two and they we a little over hyped.
