I can guarantee that Microsoft is the reason they have to act so inoffensive. The second Microsoft is no longer involved, like April Fools updates, they just add whatever they like.

Hear me out: Maybe they use the April Fools update to experiment with new features in a way that won't be heavily criticized. Like, they've just built this massive components system and they want a way to test out its features in an environment that is relatively low stakes. That way, they can gauge community feedback and make the appropriate changes necessary to bring their new ideas to the game.

A few things I found out with the Floataters: 1) they can move obsidian 2) you can set it up so that a redstone block is constantly touching the floatater, doubling its speed 3) it can be activated with any redstone 4) not about floatater, but if you stand on the potato battery it makes a funny sound and sends out particles

@@San-lh8us they can move ANY block. That means literally any. If you carve a space out (about 15 blocks in all directions) they can move a chunk of land from the bottom of the world to build height. For example, I moved a 25 x 25 chunk of the nether roof, from the top layer of bedrock 30 blocks down with a single floatater. it cleared a massive hole from the bedrock ceiling. Easiest bedrock clearing ever XD

@@1eris. Minecraft never had good bosses to begin with, if you guys consider those warden-killing tricks valid. The wither can be suffocated without a single swipe of a sword, and the Dragon is put into perma sleep with beds. So either Minecraft never had a boss to begin with, or yes, they made a new boss in 1.19.

It is honestly hilarious how much they'll do for the bit. I kinda respect the dedication even though its dumb lol

The April fools snapshots are rushed and not nearly as polished or well made as vanilla, the features don't have to be polished, balanced, or even good. Many of the features are bad and overpowered. They put the same amount of work as any snapshot but this time they don't have to make sure they are good so of course they can add way more stuff. The grappling hook is too op, the moving blocks removes the whole point of flying machines are makes many things too easy. And more, so shush.

I also noticed that this update seems like a mix of 'things we added for laughs' and 'things we added because we want them in the main game but the higher-ups won't let us'. A whole Dimension seems a bit too 'large' for something happening anytime soon, but I'd put bets that they might try to add an actual grappling-hook at some point (maybe not as powerful as the one in this snapshot). 1.21's already adding the Mace, and with it's theme of exploration and adventure it's not that far off to expect them to add other treasures to find too...

Probably the rarest block to get in the game, remember you can only get a poisonous potato from chest loot and a 1/20 chance from farming a potato crop. Even if the blocks drop poisonous potatoes in this update it requires a MASSIVE grind to obtain that block

Infinite dimensions snapshot was used to test datapacks stuff, last year april fools added size changes that later became an actual feature, im sure there is more that i cant remember now.

fun fact: the floatater speed stacks depending on how many you use and if the block group is being moved by the floatater, if tick speed is frozen when the player stands on the moving object they get flung into that direction (also can be harder depending on the amount of floatater) also there is a new potion that lets you climb walls

Each of the last few years' April Fool's updates have been so much fun, and if Mojang won't give us the stuff in them as regular minecraft things, I wish they'd give us a compiled April Fools' build that includes all the material....

I'd like to correct a few things from the video and wiki. In regards to the *floatater* : From the video it is implied only the floatato and battery can make flying things, the floatater can attach to most non-fluid, non-tile entity blocks, and can be activated by any redstone emmiting block (The battery has a power of 15 when active). And to correct the wiki after extensive testing, the floatater movable structure has a max size of 32 blocks in each direction(floatater is included in this measurement), regardless of the actual position of the floatater in it, not a 30 block radius as stated in the wiki. And this one is just for the wiki editors In regards to the *Toxifin slab* and *Plaguewhale slab* , it is stated they can stack to resemble a dual tailed guardian/elder guardian respectively, however they can actually go up to a triple stack, making them resemble a slightly taller guardian/elder guardian. I presume this, similarly to the boss, is to make them rectangular to resemble a potato.

It's truly a shame that Technoblade couldn't live to see this

For those who say as always that Mojang puts too much effort into the April fools updates, just remember that this is their way to test features for the next update. Remember the swaggy blocks? Aka netherite?

I highly doubt any of the things in this snapshot were ever written purely for the snapshot. You can see it from the assets, everythings been recycled. When, why or from where the floatato, floater, grappling hook etc. were recycled is anybodys guess. I like most of the "unique" stuff here, hopefully its been recycled from a potential feature and not from a scrapped one.

They could add all three mobs, but they won't because that's the whole point of a vote. Many of the features are bad and overpowered. They put the same amount of work as any snapshot but this time they don't have to make sure they are good so of course they can add way more stuff. The grappling hook is too op, the moving blocks removes the whole point of flying machines are makes many things too easy. And more, so shush.

@@Beeean Are we really have debate about overpowered things in minecraft? Elytra basically completely ruined railway and mostly ruined horses (though they are still useful in early game). Who does even remember about pig with carrot on the stick? There is no such thing as balance in minecraft. I have absolutely not a single idea why Microsoft limits Mojang in creativity and updates, but it's very sad to see

I feel like most of the people saying that they put more effort into the April Fool's updates would immediately complain that the update "killed the atmosphere of the game" if Mojang actually added this into the game (also you can clearly tell that a lot of it is just slapped together with a lot of features just being reskinned mobs and blocks or some of the new stuff being very buggy and unbalanced) that being said I'd still love to see the grappling hook in vanilla

nobody's saying that this should be included in vanilla, the point is that they will make a whole another game for just a little joke (and yes while a lot of it is just reskins, it clearly has a lot of effort and there are still many new features) while in the vanilla game they're still struggling to implement bundles for the past 3 years and even some of the features they do add, are just reskins like the glow squid, and even though not added it would have been the moobloon as well it's not that people want to have a poisonous potato dimension, people just want something new at a rate higher than half a feature per year

Thats what snapshots are for. They can add a bunch of things and polish them into the game based on community feedback without any backlash. Its not like adding 2 mobs and 3 new blocks is "more vanilla", updates literally are expansion of said "vanilla"

The April fools snapshots are rushed and not nearly as polished or well made as vanilla, the features don't have to be polished, balanced, or even good. Many of the features are bad and overpowered. For everyone saying "They do this but cant add 3 mobs" is missing the joke, because they're the ones being made fun of in this snapshot. This is all absolutely abysmal content, the hooks and floaters are the only things of note. Everything else is just basic blocks and reskins, this update is -making fun of you- for having this opinion. The reason why Mojang is slow to update the game is because Microsoft is gonna have them continue to update the game long past it's popularity, probably past some minecraft player's natural lifespans. They're adding things slowly because if every update was The Poisonous Potato update, the game would be incomprehensible by 2030.

1 day. 1 day people will understand that adding a new dimention is not technically hard, adding a fun dimention with high replayability is. An experienced modder could have thrown this together in a week or two (maybe except floaters), but if this made it to vanilla, the novelty would be gone after some time, and nobody would use most of these features. It'd be like 1.20 but even worse.

@@francescotrinci6405 not sure about grappling hook, but floatater is probably them testing out a new feature, like they did with the size potions or 3d biomes. Mistycat showed in their video that it's clearly early in development, so if we do get it, we likely won't see it until next winter.

Mojang is an expert at putting maximum effort into ab optional side mission and putting zero effort into the campaign

Common misconception. As I've heard, much of the new code added in this update isn't exactly written to the highest quality. Much of the time spent on updates ends up being bugfixing, the last thing they want to do is have to push another update to fix some major game-breaking exploit they missed. Besides, if you're looking for something to really blame for Mojang's lack of output, try blaming Microsoft disallowing anything that might even just partially risk upsetting the status quo...

but like, do we know how long this update took to code? It's very possible that it's something developers have worked on since last year's April Fool's update or longer. Something like a place to work on to destress, or something fun to work on after you've only been bugfixing the new shanpshots for 3 weeks now... we have no idea how long this thing actually took to code. Also, I know you were joking/ exaggerating the 12 updates thing, but 12 updates ago we didn't even have end islands/shulkers/elytras, mansions, different ocean biomes, different nether biomes, different colored beds, the entire deep dark and world generation overhaul... just to name a few things that have been added since Microsoft bought Minecraft.

I love how Mojang puts this much effort into freaking April Fools updates, but not into actual updates.
