Interesting idea but I have the small m12 radio which I can just throw down next to it. It would add unnecessary weight and bulk to the light. Not what we want.

Wow, what a difference in brightness over the older rocket light. Seeing is believing, playing devils advocate, its 3 directional heads vs 1 pointing in same direction to compare brightness. Regardless, the ability to light 3 different directs with one newer rocket where you,d need the 3 of the older is advantage enough. The ability to run off extension cord with charging abilities is just icing on an already outstanding cake. Nicely done, Milwaukee. Thanks for sharing the new rocket light with us. Stay safe all.

Great vid. I picked up the 3000 lumen little brother of that light with a 40% discount through Homedepot. It's a great light. Dual power and charger. Then..... I saw this 6000 lumen light at Ohio. Had to have it. Hehe 😋 Oh, my, gosh what a beast of a light. We do a lot of site work and I'm always in a ditch or hole working on pipe. This thing works almost as good as a gas powered jobsite light. It's well worth the money. And yes it rapid charges phones. Kinda wish the M18 charger was a rapid or super charger.

@vcg Construction I work for a battery company 2.1 amp will charge a all smart phones and tablets, but that amp is to low to charge a laptop fast it would take almost a couple days. As most laptops use about 10-20amps depending on the size of the battery in the unit. It would work just would take a long time to get fully charged. The light is Awsome I use the m12 rocket light and it’s great 👍

I do like the three heads, I love ambient light instead of directional as my eyes have a hard time focusing if it’s too bright. I had a situation on Friday where I could have used this! No one on the job site knew how to power the site lights, and I had to use my baby M18 work light 😆. The USB will only charge phones and tablets. I find the 2.1a odd though, most high power tablet/phone chargers are 2.4a output. It won’t do a laptop, not the right voltage or amperage (most laptops that charge over USB-C use 20v and at least 3.5a)

Nice light I use German Metabo lamps mostly, although I also use a verity of smaller Milkwakee lights as well. It does concern me that the lumens on the older lights are fading in brightness. I have not experienced that with any of my Metabo or Milkwakee Rover lights. Thank you for the video Vince.

Is it that they are fading though, or is it simply the old one was under rated, or the newer one delivers more than stated? Or the newer one was rated with a smallish battery but produces more when connected to a power outlet? I'd like to see a comparison with this light plugged into the wall and with different sized batteries before I jumped to conclusions.

  • @kit888

Movie crew trick: raise the light from the 1st collar. If you need more height later, use the second collar. Reverse it and you'll need to lower the light to access the 1st collar.

  • @outofthi5world567

    @outofthi5world567

This is true, however, if you know you won't require the extra light raising it by the second collar would be better because it is thicker, stronger, and more stable.

this is what i have been waiting for, and i glad Milwaukee did it. i was looking at the first gen light towers, but not having the ability to operate on corded power was too much to get over for the price they asked. its still pricey, maybe too much so ( $600.00?!?!?! ), but it a leap in the right direction. the improved lumen output and being multi directional is fantastic. being able to charge a battery and run off an extension cord at the same time is where they should have started in the first place. having the usb outlet is ok, i guess, but if they are going to start adding computer stuff to it, then why not add blue tooth speakers, and make it really multi functional? like #851! now, here's to seven years good luck!

I have a Dewalt 20v tripod light and it claims 3000 lumens, I honestly prefer the M18 Rocket. Easy way to figure out the USB charging dilemma is to look at the Watt age output. For example USB charging devices output a constant 5V and up to that amp rating listed there, Ie 2.1Amps so it's capable of ~10 watts output. Do the math on your laptop charger deal and it's probably providing something like 20 - 80 watts to keep the laptop running

Light is such a log equation. Its intresring to see from flashlights etc that unless you double the amount of lumens the dark can just suck it up and it doesn't seem any brighter. I love my Mikita 10000 for that reason, but ill get this light as well.

My recently purchased rocket light without charger or 3 individual heads but it still has dual power use (a ac outlet or battery). It is half the price of the charger version. I can buy two of them for the same price if I want light in more places without the directional head. Don't need the charger because I have rapid charger station for that. Does this charge rapidly? Rapid charger station can charge 3 batteries at a time rapidly. I can have the batteries charging in one location rather than having chargers going in different places. Most times the reason for the cordless tools is that I have no electricity where working so I would not have power for the light charger anyway. Also running cords to the light location is inconvenient where the light has to go. The charging station can be where there is an outlet and does not have to be where I am working, the light does. The charging station will be somewhere else charging batteries, not where the light and work is going on. The light would then require an unnecessary extra extension cord to be brought in to work area, where the charging station does not. Again, don't want or need the light charger, not as practical and does not make as much sense to me to have or pay the extra money for. I will be rigging the charging station with usb ports when I decide it is necessary but for now I do not need usb charging beyond what I have. I have already rigged my little m12 radio with usb ports.

I use it only on low because high burns through a 4.0 battery very quickly and the drop in output is not that much. It’s certainly sufficient for me doing that particular job.

@VCG, I've tried to put the 12ah battery in my rocket light, but it did not fit. I believe my light is about 4 years old. Did you modify your older rocketlight, or did Milwaukee make a change to them?

when Milwaukee released the 12AH battery a few years back they had a program to retrofit the older tools to work with the new battery. I just had to drop a bunch of my lights to their service center!

@@VCGConstruction Ah, OK. I don't need my 12AH to go into it, it just happened to be the battery I grabbed one day and it did not fit in it.

I think the newer laptops with usb-c charging can slow charge with a standard 2.1a port, but by todays standards, 5V 2.1A is low for the newest phones out there. For a long time, the comparison was 5V 1a, vs 5V 2.1a USB Ports, Obviously the 2.1 was much faster charging. As of the last few years, the 1a ports are hardly ever found anymore, and 2.1a ports are more or less the middle grade USB outlet. The higher end USB uses QC quick charge ports which are able to automatically vary the output voltage and amps they deliver based on the device A 2.1a port I think can slow charge some of the newer laptops with USB-C charging. But USB-C can actually charge much faster using a compatibly rated charger, which auto adjust voltage output all the way up to like 19v By small devices, they generally arent referring to laptops though... They are referring to anything with a micro-usb charge port. If they were keeping up with the times it would be USB C OR otherwise QC 3.0 compatible

I have 2 of the gen 2 rocket lights that can plug in or work off battery. Hard to justify this one, but given how bright these ones are, very tempting. Any idea if we can buy the carrying case separately for my current lights?

USB port definitely would not be sufficient for charging anything larger than a phone or iPad/tablet. Most laptops, even the newer USB-C type like a MacBook or Surface Go require 20-45watts. Too bad they didn’t include a USB-C 45w port like they have on the Topoff

I just picked up a couple of the old 2500l old ones, frankly I would return them if it wasn’t for the current promotion. The price is a joke for the light output, especially considering a 500w halogen is 7000l

Thank you for the info. Your video's are amazing. however, It always amazes me how there are always a few idiots giving a thumbs down. I wish I could tell them where there is a nice little warm hole or big for that matter, on their mid body part that thumb would bring them great pleasure. Do they expect you ship them a free tool for watching your video, or come to their house and cook them breakfast. It pisses me off when I see people like you take the time out and put a very nice, well put together, informatively helpful video like this out, and these idiot simpletons give it a thumbs down. Anyway, thank you again brother for putting out these GREAT videos.
